Fox Entertainment has named Julia Franz head of comedy and Daniel Weidenfeld head of animation, the network said Tuesday.
As senior vice president of comedy, Franz will be responsible for overseeing all comedy production and development for the network. Weidenfeld, set as senior vice president of animation, will be responsible for overseeing all animated production and development for Fox Entertainment and third-party platforms. The two new SVPs will report directly to Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn.
“Both Julia and Daniel are fantastic executives with tremendous relationships throughout the creative community,” Thorn said. “As Fox Entertainment doubles down on our commitment both to live-action and animated comedy, these two executives will play key roles in these initiatives.”

Both will report to Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn.
Fox has been without senior comedy executives since April, when the head of comedy, Evp Comedy Programming & Development Suzanna Makkos, left to join HBO Max as Evp Original Comedy and Animation, and Jonathan Gabay, Svp comedy development and programming, left to join Berlanti Productions as Svp Development. I hear out in the current executive transition is Roberto Alcantara, VP Comedy Programming & Development.
Fox Entertainment brass cast a wide net in its search for a new head of comedy.

Berlanti Productions is beefing up its senior executive ranks with the hire of Erika Kennair and Jonathan Gabay as SVPs of development.
Kennair, most recently VP comedy development at ABC, and Gabay, most recently Svp comedy development and programming at Fox, fill an Svp development vacancy at Berlanti Prods. left by the departure of Ryan Lindenberg who has joined Erik Feig’s new company Picturestart. The appointment of two executives stems from the rapid expansion Berlanti Prods.’ slate has undergone over the past few years to a record 15 live-action series currently on the air.
As for Kennair and Gabay coming off comedy jobs as they join Berlanti Prods., whose portfolio is dominated by drama series, both also have drama backgrounds and their hires was a result of principals Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter seeking rising star executives regardless of specialty.
“We are beyond excited to bring Erika and Jonathan into the Berlanti Productions family.

Sunday’s episode of Family Guy, the first in its 16-season history to air without commercials, invited us to become flies on the wall of a Stewie Griffin therapy session — and boy did we learn a lot.
Or maybe I should say we had many of our preconceived notions about the Griffin’s youngest, most evil member confirmed to us — from his sexuality (“‘Fluid’ is a something I hear being tossed around a lot,” he said before questioning whether “heterosexual” is even a real word) to his fake British accent, which his actual British therapist (voiced by Ian McKellen) saw right through.
