Born in China, trained at London Film School, Shuang Zou has directed a number of short films, Mama Medea (Beijing, 2006,
HDV), A Morning Interlude (London, 2007, 16mm) which was selected for
screening several times at the National Gallery, UK, and 15 min 35mm
short, The Second Marriage of Golden Lotus (2008, London). Recently she
completed her graduation film Still (Super 16mm, 20 Min, London).
She was also an editor/producer on various short student fiction films as well as the documentary, Capturing Space. In 2008, she finished working on the promotional video of Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci at the English National Opera. In China she worked as Assistant Director to mainland Chinese director Geng Xu on his most recent film Encounter Sanya shot on Hainan island January 2009.
She worked closely with acclaimed Theatre/Opera director David Freeman on various projects over the last few years between China and UK. She has assisted him in script developing as well as co-producing their theatre project, Jing Ping Mei - a play adapted from Ancient Chinese Classic novel, for which she has both fund-raised and organized workshops at Central Academy of Drama in Beijing, The Actors Centre and The Drill Hall in London. She then worked as an intern in David Freeman's opera production Wozzeck at Theatre de la Monnaie, Brussels and worked as an interpreter and production assistant for Monkey, Journey to the West at the Royal Opera House and O2 Centre London, directed by Opera/Film director Chen Shi-Zheng. Most recently she worked as his first assistant director in his new production of La Traviata at National Opera and Ballet, Lithuania.
