Joe Murphy-Roe is a writer and director from Yorkshire and is formerly known as Joe Morris.
Commissioned three times through the Lottery-funded new talent Digital Shorts scheme and co-financed with Screen Yorkshire, his short films have screened internationally winning acclaim at various national and international festivals
Joe's last short film, We Are Dancers, was a finalist in the Iris Prize LGBT Festival's Best British Short award and was highly commended by the jury. It was also longlisted for the BIFA Best British Short Award, shortlisted for the British Short Film Award at the 2020 BAFTAs and nominated for a Student Academy Award. He was a BAFTA mentee under Levan Akin and was part of Screen Yorkshire's Flex development programme. Joe is also a creative writing undergraduate at the University of Nottingham and a filmmaking postgraduate at the Northern Film School.
