Capturing the Killer Nurse is a true crime documentary streaming on Netflix about the FBI investigation into the case of Charles Cullen. It is written and directed by Tim Travers Hawkins.
A true crime documentary that is brought to us days after the release of the film starring Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne, The Good Nurse. It has obviously been produced as a follow-up to the movie to give viewers the real testimonies of those affected and surrounding the many cases of murder by the nurse.

It is well produced in a true true crime manner, with interviews, dramatizations, archive footage, and voice recordings of Charles Cullen himself during the interrogations. “Capturing the Killer Nurse” is a documentary about Charles Cullen, the serial killer whose chilling story is the basis of the Eddie Redmayne/Jessica Chastain movie “The Good Nurse.” Both films are being released by Netflix, in what has become a synergistic system of true-crime-as-cross-promotion. What both versions show you is that the Cullen saga may be the first case of a serial killer who was enabled by corporate malfeasance.
Cullen, a geek with a porn-star mustache and a smirky grimace who spent 16 years as a highly regarded nurse in the Northeast (mostly New Jersey), injected hospital drugs — principally the heart-failure medication Digoxin — into a number of patients, killing them “invisibly.” He was arrested in December 2003 and confessed to the murders of 29 people; many think that he killed closer to 400. Given that his track record of foul play is traceable to the early ’90s, and that he worked in nine different hospitals,...

Netflix has debuted a teaser trailer for true crime documentary ‘Capturing The Killer Nurse.’
Charlie Cullen was an experienced registered nurse, trusted and beloved by his colleagues at Somerset Medical Center in New Jersey. He was also one of history’s most prolific serial killers, with a body count potentially numbering in the hundreds across multiple medical facilities in the Northeast.
Based on The Good Nurse, the best-selling book written by Charles Graeber to be dramatized in a Netflix feature film starring Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne, premiering this fall, this new documentary from Emmy-nominated director Tim Travers Hawkins (Xy Chelsea) reveals the twisted story behind Cullen’s hidden spree of murders.
Using audio from Cullen himself and emotional sit-downs with those closest to the events including whistle-blower and fellow nurse Amy Loughren, the detectives who cracked the case, author Graeber, and family members of the victims the film traces...

How do you capture the most prolific serial killer in American history? It just takes one whistleblower to call out her colleague.
Jessica Chastain portrays nurse Amy Loughren, who helped take down killer Charles Cullen (Eddie Redmayne) in the Netflix drama “The Good Nurse.” Cullen is believed to have murdered as many as 400 patients over the course of his 16-year career in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Now, the real Loughren is sharing her side of the story in the documentary “Capturing the Killer Nurse.”
“The idea that a nurse might be killing patients was very disturbing,” Loughren says in the trailer. “There’s no eyewitnesses. There’s no cameras.”

Netflix often likes to double down on their true crime programming. For example, they released both Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes and the Bundy biopic Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile around the same time. They did something similar with Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes and the series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Now they’re following the release of the true crime-inspired movie The Good Nurse (read our review Here) with the release of the documentary Capturing the Killer Nurse. The teaser trailer for the documentary, which will be available to watch on the streaming service as of November 11th, can be seen above.

Woodstock ’99 Documentary ‘Burn It Down!’ From MRC Non-Fiction Bound for London Festival (Exclusive)
MRC Non-Fiction’s feature documentary “Burn It Down!,” which reexamines the infamous Woodstock ’99 music festival, will have its world premiere at the 65th British Film Institute (BFI) London Film Festival.
The festival took place during the last summer of the 20th century on July 23-25, 1999 and featured performances by Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Insane Clown Posse, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Wyclef Jean and Sheryl Crow among others. It was meant to invoke the spirit of the iconic 1969 Woodstock music festival on its 30th anniversary, but failed to do so.
“Festival organisers cobbled together a poorly conceived rehash of an iconic cultural moment. From security, to basic needs, nothing had been properly planned,” reads the film’s description in the BFI London Film Festival program. “The line-up was a cocktail of 1990s pop rock and peak nu metal angry-white-man bands, including Limp Bizkit and Korn. What began as carefree revelry...

HBO Max’s Persona: The Dark Truth Behind Personality Tests explores the history and growing dangers surrounding the seemingly innocuous Myers–Briggs personality test.
Created by Isabel Briggs Meyers in the early mid-20th century, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator classifies participants into one of sixteen different personality types, all symbolized by four letters – from Intj to Enfj. Tim Travers Hawkins’s doc takes a deep dive into how the personality test evolved from a way to self-identify into a “dangerous tool” in the hands of the powerful.
“It’s being used to make decisions about who’s worthy and who’s unworthy,” an interview subject say in the trailer.
The doc, which will premiere on March 4 on HBO Max, raises a slew of ethical questions demonstrating how some personality tests may do more harm than good – like impacting online dating matches or job prospects. Produced by Dorothy Street Pictures, Persona...

“I’m not a hero,” says Chelsea Manning toward the end of Tim Travers Hawkins’s “Xy Chelsea,” a riveting but often frustrating documentary that focuses mainly on Manning’s 2017 release from jail, where she spent seven years for sharing classified military documents. During her time in prison, Manning came out as a trans woman, and on her release, she takes delight in putting on ultra-red lipstick and growing her hair long, which was not allowed in the all-male facility where she was detained.
Manning is currently back in prison for refusing to testify to a grand jury against Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks leader who released Manning’s documents and videos online after The New York Times and the Washington Post expressed no interest in this information in 2010. It is not made entirely clear in “Xy Chelsea” just what Manning feels about Assange, but she is likely martyring herself again...

An intimate new documentary follows Chelsea Manning after her prison release – from a safe house in the woods to a run for the senate. ‘We had to tread carefully,’ says Tim Travers Hawkins
The night Chelsea Manning was released from Fort Leavenworth military prison in Kansas, her first steps as a free woman were being filmed. It was May 2017 and she had just served nearly seven years of a 35-year sentence for disclosing 750,000 classified documents to Julian Assange’s WikiLeaks. “It was nerve-racking,” says the man who filmed her, the British artist and documentary-maker Tim Travers Hawkins, from his apartment in New York. “I knew it was the money shot, if you like. It was such an important historical moment.”

While only a handful of documentary features have been selected for Cannes’ Official Selection, plenty of non-fiction action can be found in Cannes Market’s Doc Corner and environs, where doc professionals converge to get first looks at — or the first word on — titles with potential to connect with audiences on screens, large and small, in the near future.
The Docs-in-Progress series, running May 18-20, a main attraction of Doc Corner, presents four works-in-progress apiece from Argentina, Canada, Chile, Norway, Palestine and South Africa. These sessions are programmed with documentary or film partner organizations from the respective countries. This year the Monaco-based International Emerging Film Talent Assn. is sponsoring a €10,000, jury-selected prize that will be given to one of the projects to support completion.

With the imprecisely assembled “Xy Chelsea,” multimedia artist-cum-filmmaker Tim Travers Hawkins makes a bold yet mostly fruitless attempt to tell the infamous whistleblower Chelsea Manning’s remarkable story. While it’s hardly Hawkins’ error that his documentary feels unfinished — the self-defined activist’s dramatic saga is still unfolding as we speak — you can’t help but feel his unprecedented access to Manning should have emanated a portrait a lot more enlightening.
This is not to say Hawkins doesn’t give a sincere shot to understanding his complex subject. Born in Oklahoma in 1987 and raised by heavy-drinking parents, the former U.S. Army soldier and intelligence analyst Manning was arrested in 2010 for leaking thousands of sensitive documents, a decision she made after witnessing a series of war crimes in Iraq. During her jail time of seven years, she came out as a trans woman and was released in 2017 upon a Presidential pardon...

The doc film is a look at the life and experiences of Chelsea Manning, a trans woman soldier in the United States Army, who was sentenced to serve 35 years at an all-male military prison for leaking information about the country's wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Everyone knows her name, but how many people really know her real story? Who she really is? Not only does it cover her story about getting data out to Wikileaks, it also examines her place in the conversation on national security and the fight of the transgender community for rights and visibility. "I love coming-of-age stories," says Chelsea Manning near the start of the documentary Xy Chelsea, a Tribeca Film Festival world premiere soon to debut on Showtime. There are notes of wistfulness and defensiveness in how this former soldier/whistleblower — who uploaded caches of classified documents and video to Julian Assange's WikiLeaks website in 2010, and came out as a trans woman after she was arrested for her actions — utters those words, since she herself is stuck in something of a soul-sucking rut.
