Exclusive: We hear that Cinemart, the documentary team of directors Jenner Furst, Julia Willoughby Nason and producer Mike Gasparro, is partnering on the documentary LuLaRich with Based on Media’s Blye Faust and Cori Shepherd Stern.
The doc will investigate LuLaRoe, the billion dollar clothing empire which has recently been accused of misleading thousands of American women with their multi-level marketing platform. Once promoted by Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson, the brand has gone from an aspirational movement to a trending “pyramid scheme” that is now the subject of multiple lawsuits.
LuLaRoe’s founders DeAnne and Mark Stidham have denied all allegations and have launched countersuits of their own, defending the company’s legitimacy and model. LuLaRoe is still fully operational and many women continue to enthusiastically promote the brand. The company has also dramatically reduced entry costs to attract new saleswomen during the pandemic and economic downturn.

After weeks of absence, I can safely say that I have missed my Mentalist. And I was gratified to have an entertaining and revealing episode. Jane surprised me. That doesn't happen often, people. The case is clearly inconsequential to the giant puddle of crap Jane has stepped in, and trust Lisbon to save his pretty butt. We're back in Laroche's (Pruitt Taylor Vince) Hummel-decorated house while a masked robber rummages through his stuff. He breaks into a safe, but only finds some coins and a Tupperware dish. Who keeps Tupperware in a safe? Laroche shows up, but his menace is diminished by his ever-present fluffy white dog in his arms. After firing off a few shots, the robber escapes, only to be tackled down and arrested by waiting cops outside. Then we see Jane's (Simon Baker) little skittle of a car leaving the scene down the street. This is where I said,...

Has it been a decade of films and freaks already? Well, it has! The 10th annual Coney Island Film Festival is set to run once again on Sept. 24-26 at the world famous Sideshows by the Seashore — the last operating circus-style sideshow/freak show in the U.S.A.
The festival starts with real bang this year with the Brooklyn premiere of Gary Beeber‘s latest documentary Dirty Martini and the New Burlesque, which chronicles the rise of the hot new burlesque trend in NYC and its most popular star, Dirty Martini. The film will also be preceded by two short films: The recently uncovered Museum of Wax by playwright Charles Ludlam and Jaye Cherian’s documentary Shape of the Shapeless.
This year the festival is also celebrating by hosting director Darren Aronofsky as their 2010 honoree. On Sept. 26, Aronofsky — who was born in South Brooklyn — will be present at a...
