Now that the first season of “Made in Mosjøen” is complete, Aleksander Nordaas has edited his web series into a feature film — and has made the story of a gun made out a fish available for free. Watch a trailer for “Mosjøen,” which follows the writer/director’s film “Thale,” below.

David Lynch is currently, as we know, preparing his surprise return to Twin Peaks. But as if to demonstrate that Lynch doesn't have the monopoly on episodic oddity, Aleksander Nordaas, the Norwegian director of the excellent Thale (tah-lay), is launching his own web series, Made In Mosjøen. Thale's stars Silje Reinåmo and Jon Sigve Skard are among the cast. See what you make of the extended teaser trailer below...Speaking to Empire, Nordaas explains that releasing a free series is "sort of my personal tryout and response to what happened with Thale. After the release, I was absolutely thrilled by the growing interest among the international audience, but I wasn't equally thrilled about the numerous pirate-versions appearing all over. I decided to initiate a dialogue with the filesharers, and what I thought was going to be a major 'screw you' response actually turned out quite informative."Releasing Made In...

Clearly thanks to its "breakout" status in Kim Newman's Video Dungeon in the current issue of Empire , the quietly wonderful Norwegian fantasy Thale has just earned itself a sequel. Original writer/director Aleksander Nordaas remains at the helm for more folkloric Scandinavian scares. The original film concerns the titular forest sprite (tah-lay), who is one of the Huldra: siren-like creatures from Nordic myth. The Huldras' general modus operandi is to lure men to their deaths by sitting naked under waterfalls, but Thale has been captured for study by a well-meaning human guardian and imprisoned for some years. Upon his death, however, she's discovered by the crime-scene cleaners who come to scrub her cabin-in-the-woods, and her emergence from captivity attracts dangerous attention. The wordless Thale was affectingly played by Silje Reinåmo (Empire spoke to Silje at the Night Visions festival in Helsinki last autumn) but it's unclear at this stage...

A jolty combination of comedy, detective fancy and myth makes Thale a fun testament to Norwegian folklore. To be fair, “fun” is not entirely what the movie is going for; it teeters weirdly between comedy and horror without ever achieving frightfulness and fills in lots of low-key screen time wherein little happens and dialogue occurs slowly and wryly. But it’s worth a watch if only for the bizarre embodiment of the title character (Silje Reinåmo), a spidery-lashed, darting-eyed folk creature kept in captivity.
Folk creature, you say? Why, yes.

*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by XLrator Media. Director/writer: Aleksander Nordaas. Cast: Silje Reinåmo, Erlend Nervold and Jon Sigve Skard. There have been a number of films that have been flowing out of Norway, in recent years. Troll Hunter was a title that dealt with creatures of yore. This film released in 2010 to acclaim. The Cold Prey series of films also originated in this Scandinavian locale. Cold Prey was a slasher film that dealt with several unlucky hikers. Now, Norway and director Aleksander Nordaas have released a fantasy film titled Thale. The character Thale is a huldra, a mythical creature, which is an off-shoot of humanity. Thale's identity is at the core of the film. Slowly paced with very little tension, film fans might be best served searching for other titles from this smallish country. The film begins with the characters Elvis (Erlend Nervold...

Title: Thale Director: Aleksander Nordaas Starring: Erlend Norvold, Jon Sigve Skard, Silje Reinåmo, Morten Andresen Supernaturally tinged Norwegian mystery-horror import “Thale” unfolds, on a narrative level, like some weird hybrid of “Sunshine Cleaning,” “Splice” and “Lady in the Water” — a work that dances around a couple moods and genres without ever really wholeheartedly committing to one in particular. Telling the story of a surprise woodland contact between a pair of guys and an awakened, captive huldra — a nymph-like creature of Scandinavian folklore — writer-director Aleksander Nordaas’ work gives off a certain eerie vibe that, along with its regional specificity, add up to give the movie a pungent originality. If you had to stumble upon an angry, vicious mythic creature, you could do worse than the sexy monster found in Thale by Elvis (Erlend Nervold) and Leo (Jon Sigve Skard), two guys who clean up after crime scenes. At their latest gig, the duo stumble upon Thale (Silje Reinåmo), a stunning woman in a secret basement who emerges out of a milky bathtub and who, it turns out, was kept captive for decades by a man who experimented on her while hiding her from mysterious pursuers. Audiotapes and a severed tail kept in a fridge prove clues to Thale's folkloric origins, though the mystery is soon altogether sapped by writer-director Aleksander Nordaas's decision to have Thale provide Elvis with psychic transmissions that bluntly lay out her backstory. Any initial, intriguing otherwo...

Director: Aleksander Nordaas. Review: Adam Wing. We can probably blame Troll Hunter for this. With stunning effects, lush scenery, strong performances and an inventive screenplay, André Øvredal’s second feature was one of the strangest and strongest horror movies of 2010. Thale walks the same path, dealing in mythical creatures, Norwegian folklore, a sprinkling of dark comedy and the promise of horror, but loses its footing when it comes to quality entertainment. Two cleaners, one cabin and an encounter with a mythical creature called Thale, that’s what you get with this disappointingly dreary Scandinavian creature feature. Leo (Jon Sigve Skard) and Elvis (Erlend Nervold) are crime scene cleaners, not that Elvis really has the stomach for it anymore. On their latest job they head down to the basement and discover Thale (Silje Reinåmo), unquestionably supernatural and mostly naked. It’s not long before Leo and Elvis believe they’ve discovered a real life huldra.

The domestic trailer for writer/director Aleksander L. Nordaas' Thale is now online and you can check it out in the player below. Right beneath it is the previous, international version, released last year along with a new poster. Starring Silje Reinåmo, Erlend Nervold, Jon Sigve Skard, Morten Andresen and Roland Astrand, Thale is a fantasy horror thriller that follows two crime-scene cleaners who discover a mythical, tailed female creature in a concealed cellar. She never utters a word, unable to tell her story, but the pieces of the puzzle soon come together: she's been held captive for decades for reasons soon to surface. Although the poster is similar to the one released last year , the new design is a bit more colorful, playing up the fantasy aspect. Thale hits...

Breaking: XLrator Media has acquired U.S. rights to the Norwegian supernatural thriller Thale, which screens tonight in the Toronto Film Festival’s Vanguard section. The deal was sealed by the filmmakers and Barry Gordon, CEO of XLrator Media. The plan is to release early next year. Based on the stills from the film, featuring a hot naked woman with a tail, you can imagine this film will get attention and presents marketing opportunities. Thale tells the story of a mythical “huldra,” a beautiful, tailed female forest creature, who is discovered in a concealed cellar by two crime scene cleaners. The creature is unable to speak so she can’t explain how she came to be there, but the pieces of the puzzle soon come together. She has been kept down there for decades, for reasons which will soon emerge. Someone is approaching from the outside. They want her back.

Usually, a beautiful woman is reason enough to take a guy’s breath away – especially if she’s naked, and especially if she has you in a chokehold. While her vice grip tightens around your throat and you labour in your hopeless struggle to breathe, the fact that she used to have a tail somehow feels trivial; because, at that point, you’re attention may be preoccupied with something else.
Not exactly a daily problem for most, but this is exactly the situation that befalls a couple of Norwegian lads. Working with the appropriately named ‘No Shit Cleaning Service’, Elvis and Leo (Erlend Nervold and Jon Sigve Skard) are called upon to clean up a house nestled in the remote sylvan beauty of the country’s timberlands. Inside, however, the place is a right bloody mess.

Thale
Director & Screenwriter: Aleksander L. Nordaas
The film revolves around huldra, a mythical, tailed creature, found by two crime scene cleaners in a concealed cellar. Someone’s been keeping her down here for decades, for reasons soon to surface.
Cast: Silje Reinåmo, Jon Sigve Skard, Erlend Nervold, Morten Andresen
(North American Premiere)
Film Synopsis (from SXSW.com)
Who’S It For? It’s a nice piece of minimalist horror/fantasy.
Overall
Less is more with Thale, and starting with a dead guy ain’t too shabby either. The crime scene cleaners are Leo (Sigve Skard) and Elvis (Nervold). They could easily be described as the old pro and the reluctant new guy. You know Elvis is reluctant to clean up blood because he vomits a lot. A new job takes them to a remote location. Elvis decides to explore and that...

Thale Trailer, Photo. Aleksander Nordaas‘ Thale (2011) stars Silje Reinåmo, Erlend Nervold, Jon Sigve Skard, and Morten Andresen. Thale‘s plot synopsis: “The movie revolves around a Huldra, a seductive forest spirit in Scandinavian folklore that appears to be a beautiful woman but is anything but, sporting a hollowed out tree for a back and a cow’s tale. The huldra has been known to offer rewards to those who satisfy them sexually and death to those who fail to do so and are also prone to stealing human babies.”

More on the plot of the film:
Two of the main male characters run the “No Shit Cleaning Service”. They clean up anything, I mean anything, including the leftovers after gory murders. One day they discover something they have never seen before…….
I’m guessing its the Huldra.

The 2012 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival runs March 9–17 in Austin, Texas, and now the full film program lineup has been announced. From a first glance at the list, it's pretty light on horror, but there are a few standouts.
In addition to the world premiere of Lionsgate’s The Cabin in the Woods as the Opening Night Film, which we already knew, here are the horror (and a few horror-ish or just very interesting sounding) highlights:
