"This would look very nice in my dining room." Ah yes, nothing like a good story about a struggling artist. But this short film has a bit more to offer. Victor in Paradise is a bleak dark comedy short film written and directed by Brooklyn filmmaker Brendan McHugh, and after initially premiering at the Palm Springs International Shortfest, it's now available to watch online. When his landlord arrives to collect long overdue rent, Victor, a daydreaming painter of little means, desperately attempts to gather money needed to stave off eviction. He tries to sell some of his paintings, but it doesn't exactly work out. Poor guy. Starring Nicholas Braun (from "Succession") as Victor, along with Colby Minifie, Mark Blum, Susan Blommaert, and Buddy Duress. There's layers to this short film that many shorts don't even consider. Beyond that, it's just stylistically clever - the film has a bit of a Wes Anderson vibe.

The Statue of Liberty went dark on Tuesday night causing mass confusion on social media.
Only Lady Liberty’s torch and crown were visible in the night sky as the statue stood in darkness in New York Harbor for a few hours.
Several on Twitter suggested the power outage was in solidarity with A Day Without A Woman, the women’s strike planned for Wednesday across the United States.

Fans took to social media on Monday night after Michael Phelps' rival Chad le Clos of South Africa tried his best to distract the American with some shadow boxing just moments before they went head-to-head in the finals for the 200-meter butterfly, swimming in lanes 3 and 5. However, Phelps, the most decorated Olympian in history, remained unfazed and gave an epic death stare, quickly dubbed #PhelpsFace on social media, in return. For context: Phelps is especially eager to reclaim gold in the event after le Clos won first place by 0.05 seconds at the 2012 London Games.

Read More: How Tribeca-Winning Director Zachary Treitz Made 'Men Go to Battle,' a Period Film That Feels Strikingly Modern As part of the "Local Color" program that celebrates independent New York filmmakers, the Nitehawk Cinema and Tribeca Film Festival presented a screening of the Civil War period piece "Men Go to Battle" on Tuesday night, followed by a Q&A with director Zachary Treitz, cinematographer Ben Jutkiewicz and co-producer Brendan McHugh. Treitz was honored with the Best New Director for a Narrative Feature award earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival. Despite its Civil War backdrop, "Men Go to Battle" is a familial portrait that feels intimate and remarkably contemporary. After the screening, Treitz spoke about how his own family's Kentucky upbringing inspired the story and explained how his objective was to "make us feel like we’re jumping into the world rather than commenting on it from a 150 years later.

For two years, Kathy Rowe and her husband John searched around San Diego's upscale Carmel Valley for a one-story home that would fit the growing needs of their severely disabled teenaged daughter, now 16 years old. "I was having to carry her up and down the stairs and she was getting heavier," Rowe tells People exclusively. "It is okay to carry someone when they are 40 or 50 pounds, but when they get to 100 pounds it is hard. I threw my shoulder out. So we needed a one-story." Rowe says she "easily went to 100 open houses" before she finally found her dream home...
