Plot: The series will follow Jason Dessen, a physicist, professor, and family man who — one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago — is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the mind-bending landscape of lives he could have lived. In this labyrinth of realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to get back to his true family and save them from the most terrifying, unbeatable foe imaginable: himself.
Review: Earlier this year, AppleTV+ debuted a series about alternate realities and dueling versions of characters in Constellation. That series carried a heavy science fiction focus that showed how parallel universes can carry paranoid variations on the lives of characters shifting between worlds. Dark Matter mines similar territory but in a far more grounded manner. Using the conceits of the thriller genre, Dark Matter adapts...

Margo Price is leading off a new all-star tribute album to Leon Russell, A Song for Leon, with her take on the great singer-songwriter’s 1971 tune, “Stranger in a Strange Land.”
Price’s rendition of the Leon Russell and the Shelter People opener is rich and booming, a glorious country rocker that feels at once distinct from, and lovingly faithful to, the original. In a statement, Price described “Stranger in a Strange Land” as a “prolific” song and noted that, since recording the cover, it’s become a staple at her live shows.

In preparing for his music supervisor work on Apple TV+’s “City on Fire,” Jonathan Leahy began with what all good pregames began circa 2003: He opened up his CD binders.
“I’m a bit of a hoarder of books and recorded media, and I’ve looked at those Case Logic binders many times,” Leahy told IndieWire. “They’re big, they’re heavy, they’re bulky — maybe it’s time to get rid of them? But I held onto them, and this project began with the fully analog, real-world version of the iPod shuffle. Perfect example of that was Ambulance Ltd, which was such a great never-quite-made-it artist of the era. That’s the very first licensed music you hear in the show, when the Charlie character heads into the record store.”

Crimes involving art are inherently captivating. Even in its most basic form, the theft of a priceless work of art is a singular draw, regardless of any person or group’s reason for swiping it. (That appeal almost singlehandedly catapulted “Lupin” to “TV phenomenon” status earlier this year.)
But what’s kept the events of March 18, 1990 in the public fascination is everything about it that still makes no sense. “This is a Robbery” outlines the circumstances surrounding the pilfering of 13 items from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston on that legendary day-after-St.-Patrick’s grab. Collectively, it was a nine-figure haul of irreplaceable works from legendary artists like Rembrandt, Vermeer, Manet, and Degas.
Despite the built-in chaos of the event itself — most notably: a combination of clear operation planning and a seemingly random sacking of paintings and relatively worthless objects — director Colin Barnicle’s four-part series is a fairly...

Film ReviewPaayal Radhakrishna’s performance is the highlight of the film, which derives heavily from the 1971 Sandalwood classic, ‘Sharapanjara’.Theja Ram*Spoilers ahead Some movies give you goosebumps and keep you on the edge of your seat, but leave you extremely disappointed in the end. Bhinna is one such film. The intrigue built up for most of the film falls flat with insensitive references to persons with mental illnesses as “mentally unstable” and a psychiatrist who goads his patient to speak up or suffer the consequences. The protagonist Kaveri (Paayal Radhakrishna) plays the role of a budding actor, obsessed with method acting. The film is a juxtaposition of Kaveri’s life with that of the hallucinations she suffers from. Kaveri begins to have an affair with the husband of the woman her husband is having an affair with. The complicated relationship dynamic aside, Kaveri is unhappy with her husband and...

Netflix This season sees Agents Ford and Tench in Georgia to consult on the investigation into the Atlanta child murders, and to implement their research findings on ground. Geetika Mantri“You float my new pool / De luxe and delightful / Inflatable doll / My role is to serve you / Disposable darling / Can't throw you away now / Immortal and life size / My breath is inside you / I'll dress you up daily / And keep you till death sighs.” These are lyrics from In Every Home a Heartbreak by Roxy Music, the haunting, creepy song, that opens Mindhunter 2, and in many ways, sets the tone for the second installation of the show. The series, which follows FBI special agents Holden Ford (played by Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany), and psychoanalyst Wendy Carr’s (Anna Torv) groundbreaking work in criminal psychology studying serial killers, released its season two on Netflix on August 16. And thankfully,...

I'm currently in the middle of watching David Fincher's Netflix series Mindhunter and it's one hell of a great show and absolutely fascinating. The story follows a couple of FBI agents in 1977 who are studying the minds of serial killers so that they help catch them faster because, “How do we get ahead of crazy if we don’t know how crazy thinks?”
The series is based on the 1996 nonfiction novel by Mark Olshaker and John Douglas‘ called "Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit." Even though it's a mostly fictionalized series, it is inspired by real-life events.
Thanks to series composer Jason Hill, we've learned what Season 2 is going to focus on. While talking to Billboard, he revealed that the second season will examine the Atlanta child murders. If you're not familiar with this tragic event it was a string of 28 murders, mostly children and adolescents,...
