Despite being touted as an impressive streaming performer, Sneaky Pete has been given the axe from Amazon.
Sneaky Pete was unable to grift itself another season on Amazon Prime Video, which has canceled the series.
The series, the co-creation of Bryan Cranston and David Shore, launched on the streaming platform on August 7, 2015. It starred Giovanni Ribisi as Marius Josipovic, a smart, seedy con man who, initially upon his release from prison, dodges a debt to a dangerous gangster (Cranston) by posing as his cellmate, Pete Murphy, using all the stories he’s been told to ingratiate himself to the Bernhardts, Pete’s long-estranged Connecticut-based family, who run a bail bonds business. However, as we witness over the course of three seasons, Marius/Pete instinctually grifts his way out of problems; a practice that’s usually successful, but tends to spawn more problems and compounds others.

For anyone that forgot the strange origins of “Sneaky Pete,” Season 2 is here to remind you of what it could have been, what it is, and why it’s caught in between. Tossed out by Bryan Cranston during his 2014 Emmy acceptance speech, the term “sneaky pete” originated as the “Breaking Bad” star’s childhood nickname, but once the president of Sony TV heard it, he was transfixed. He called Cranston the day after his win and they started developing a series…

It was shopped as a procedural where the con man would crack cases of the week, one after the other, while masquerading as a long-lost member of the family, returned home to help out during a time of need. When CBS passed, Cranston and Graham Yost reshaped the idea into a serialized story for Amazon, the...

There’s a great moment in the first-season finale of Sneaky Pete that encapsulates much of the feel of the show: As Marius Josipovic (Giovanni Ribisi) believes he’s finally free of his scam as Pete Murphy and all the lying and stealing and keeping secrets that comes with it, he’s kidnapped by two men. They tell him…

What do you do when the man you're impersonating returns home?
That's the question Marius faces on Sneaky Pete Season 2 as the Real Pete Murphy makes an escape from prison when the bus fails to pick him up after community service.
Will he return home and out Marius for stealing his identity?
If so, does this mean Marius will need to confront the vicious gangsters he was running from for much of Sneaky Pete Season 1?
The new season will kick off with Marius at a peaceful stage of his life, but then two gangsters thwart all of that by ordering him to take them to Pete's mother.
It sure sounds like lying about your identity will only get you so far, and Marius will be faced with the genuine possibility that these thugs are going to murder Pete's nearest and dearest.
