Created and written by Ryan J. Brown, season one of the cruise ship-set horror-comedy “Wreck” is now streaming exclusively on Hulu.
The inaugural six-episode season, which first premiered last year in the UK on BBC Three, is described as a tense thriller, mixing comedy with a slice of slasher, set aboard The Ms Sacramentum cruise ship. The series follows a 20-year-old new recruit, Jamie (Oscar Kennedy), who infiltrates the 3000-strong crew in a desperate race to find his missing sister. Then the murders force Jamie to wear his detective cap and uncover the shocking truth.
Bloody Disgusting spoke with Brown about finding the line between horror and comedy, why slasher mascot Quacky the duck haunts him, and shifting subgenres beyond season one.
Brown explained where the cruise ship slasher series originated and why it’s so atypical, “So in the UK, the channel it was on, BBC Three, it’s the fun teen channel.

A slasher series set aboard a cruise ship, with a plucky duck mascot employed as the face of its killer, sure sounds like a delightful time, doesn’t it? That setup is only the tip of the iceberg in the inaugural six-episode season of “Wreck,” created by Ryan J. Brown and helmed by Chris Baugh (Boys from County Hell). Hidden behind the Quacky the Duck mask is a larger murder-mystery conspiracy, charming characters, and a reverence for the horror genre.
“Wreck” introduces its setting, the Ms Sacramentum, and its inciting mystery with an opening sequence that pays tribute to Halloween H20. Pippa (Jodie Tyack) breaks up with her boyfriend, Danny (Jack Rowan), then gets pursued across the deck by the ship’s mascot, Quacky, who is ominously wielding a knife. The screen fades to black before Pippa’s fate gets revealed. Cut to three months later, 19-year-old Jamie (Oscar Kennedy...

For this overworked and underpaid crew, life below deck can be an odyssey of partying and excess… and they remain oblivious to the bloodthirsty murders taking place on board. Jamie is forced to turn detective and uncover the sinister truth.
The series stars Oscar Kennedy (“Ladhood”) as Jamie, Thaddea Graham (“The Irregulars”) as Vivian, Jack Rowan (“Noughts + Crosses”) as Danny, Harriet Webb (“I May Destroy You”) as Karen, Jodie Tyack (“The Window”) as Pippa...

“Quiz Pong” is a fast-paced gameshow where teams compete against each other in a fun tournament testing their mental, physical, and strategy skills. The teams go head-to-head by throwing balls into moving baskets, on a supersized set and answering general knowledge questions to score points. The first season of the BBC Three horror comedy series Wreck (formerly known as Wrecked) is now available to watch on BBC iPlayer – and it has been announced that BBC Three has ordered another season of the show from creator / writer Ryan J. Brown and Euston Films! When we first heard about Wreck, Brown said he “wanted to create a piece of genre entertainment that had the savvy teen sharpness of Scream, the unsettling atmosphere of The Shining and the strange upstairs, downstairs mythology of The Cabin in the Woods.” The new season will be filming in Northern Ireland next year.
The first season of Wreck was set aboard The Sacramentum cruise ship. The series follows 20-year-old new recruit, Jamie, as he infiltrates the 3000 strong crew in a desperate race to find his missing sister. She was working aboard the same vessel on a previous tour and vanished mid charter.

BBC Three controller Fiona Campbell and former acting director of BBC drama Ben Irving have given the sea-faring show another six-episode order, with creator Ryan J. Brown and Fremantle-owned Euston Film returning to make it in Northern Ireland in 2023.
“After the dramatic events on The Sacramentum cruise liner, the Valorum corporation are out for blood – hunting down the gang who overthrew the ship,” reads the logline. “Jamie and Vivian have so far failed to expose the corporation’s killer secret but our duo are determined to rally former shipmates and survive long enough to expose the next big thing in twisted entertainment. Things aren’t always safer on dry land…”

Exclusive: Season two of Euston Films’ BBC Three horror comedy Wreck is in development prior to the first airing, as creator Ryan J. Brown opens up about portraying queer identity and a scarcity of British slasher.
Newly-promoted Euston MD Noemi Spanos and Brown told Deadline they are busy developing the second season and Brown always planned the show to run for at least three. Meanwhile, the horror comedy is one of distributor Fremantle’s flagships being pushed to international buyers at Mipcom later this month. It launches on Sunday October 9.
The cast of Wreck
The genre-bending show, a youth-skewing horror set on a cruise ship that has comic elements, “lends itself well to international sales,” according to Spanos. “The boat itself has a very international cast of characters coming together that should give it a broad reach,” she added, stating that Wreck’s trailer has already attracted widespread attention on social media.

Oscar Kennedy (“Ladhood”) and Jack Rowan (“Noughts + Crosses”) have joined new BBC comedy horror series “Wrecked.”
Described as a “tense thriller” set aboard a cruise ship, the six-episode series is both comic with a “slice of slasher.” It is currently in production in Northern Ireland.
Kennedy stars as Jamie, who infiltrates a cruise ship called The Sacramentum, in a bid to find his sister, who has gone missing after working aboard the ship on a previous tour.
As Jamie is initiated into the 3,000-strong crew he meets the different factions it’s comprised of, from the theater workers to the “mafias” and low-paid staff, and their life of partying and excess. Meanwhile a series of bloodthirsty murders are taking place on board, which Jamie is determined to uncover.
Joining Kennedy and Rowan, are Thaddea Graham (“The Irregulars”) as Vivian, Harriet Webb (“I May Destroy You”) as Karen and Jodie Tyack (“The Window”) as Pippa.

U.K. channel BBC Three has commissioned “Wrecked,” a six-part comedy horror series from Fremantle’s Euston Films.
Written by emerging talent Ryan J. Brown, the six-part series is set aboard a mega cruise ship. It follows 19-year-old new recruit Jamie as he joins the crew in search of his missing sister. She was working aboard the same vessel on a previous tour and never made it home. Jamie is initiated into cruise life and gets a crash course on the teen tribes within the staff who party hard and remain oblivious to the bloodthirsty murders taking place on board. Jamie is forced to turn detective and uncover the sinister truth.
Ryan J. Brown said: “In ‘Wrecked,’ the kills are brutal, the laughs are loud, and the heartfelt moments land with real candor. I wanted to create a piece of genre entertainment that had the savvy teen sharpness of ‘Scream,...

Karen Cogan’s “Fled” has come top of The Brit List, a league table of unproduced scripts from British writing talent, this year devoted to television projects. The list, similar to The Black List in the U.S., was compiled from recommendations by British production companies, talent agencies, financiers and broadcasters.
Cogan, represented by Independent Talent Group, received 20 recommendations for “Fled,” a darkly comedic drama in which a pregnant girl and a scared nun are forced together to find some kind of freedom in 90s Ireland. No producer is attached.
Cogan, who has seven original projects in development with television and film production companies, wrote season 2 of the BBC’s “The Young Offenders,” and was part of the writers’ room for Sky’s “Temple.”
Next, with eight recommendations, came “Only Child” by Ryan J. Brown, a crime thriller in which a grieving mother from a small town finds new life...
