- Alexei Kovalev was born on February 24, 1973 in Togliatti, Kuybyshev Oblast, Russian SFSR, USSR [now Samara Oblast, Russia]. He is an actor and producer, known for Bayou Caviar (2018), Les pêcheurs (2013) and Hearts and Scars (2007). He is married to Eugenia Kovalev. They have two children.

- He and then-teammates Sergei Zubov, Sergei Nemchinov, and Alexander Karpovtsev became the first Russians to win the Stanley Cup, with the New York Rangers in 1994.
- Was drafted in the first round (15th overall) of the 1991 NHL entry draft by the New York Rangers, becoming the first Russian player ever drafted in the first round.
