L.A.-based Janek Ambros, founder of production and film financing company Assembly Line Entertainment, will receive the Auteur Filmmaker Award at Spain’s Roots of Europe (Raíces de Europa) festival, landing him in the company of such noteworthy cinematic auteurs as Polish director Krzysztof Zanussi alongside Spain’s Aitor López de Aberásturi and Juanma Bajo Ulloa, among others.
The festival, which runs May 2 – 12, will also be showcasing a number of Ambros’ films during the event, in recognition for his work in experimental, narrative, and documentary films primarily shot in Europe. It was just three years ago when Ambros presented Zanussi with the coveted award where he conveyed a written message from Scorsese.
“It was really nice to be a part of Zanussi being honored for his life in film and get to deliver a message from Scorsese, someone who really admires his work. So, to come back a few...

Endeavor Independent topper Graham Taylor will run the indie film unit of the combined William Morris Endeavor Entertainment once the agency merger is complete. William Morris Independent toppers Cassian Elwes and Rena Ronson are leaving the company.
A spokesperson confirmed Wednesday that the pair will be departing along with Wmi's Emily Hirsch, who worked closely with Elwes and Ronson. A fourth staffer, Jerome Duboz, who worked as part of the Wmi team but also repped director clients such as Park Chan-wook and Alexander Aja, will stay with the merged entity.
The Endeavor team -- which in addition to Taylor includes Liesl Copland, Alexis Garcia and Mark Ankner, all of whom report to Taylor -- will remain intact, a further signal that Endeavor forces are in the driver's seat as the two agencies merge.

New York -- Like any about-to-be-married couple, Wma and Endeavor, which voted Monday to come together, now must figure out how to combine their households.
With the Festival de Cannes and its attendant market fast approaching, one question quickly rising to the fore is the fate of the talent agencies' independent film units, William Morris Independent and Endeavor Independent.
And, in a separate development Tuesday, the outlines of the combined agency's New York-based literary department began to take shape with the departure of Endeavor's Richard Abate.
Within the larger scheme of the newly announced William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, Wmi and Endeavor Independent are relatively small units -- they have barely a half-dozen staffers each -- but they are influential forces in the small world of films produced outside the studio system.
Under their respective heads -- Cassian Elwes and Rena Ronson at Wmi and Graham Taylor at Endeavor Independent -- they've packaged scripts and stars,...
