The Sandman graphic novel is, without exaggeration, Neil Gaiman's magnum opus, his most ambitious and complex work. It has won the love of many fans, spawned numerous spin-offs, won several awards, and gone through more than one reprint.
The idea of adapting The Sandman, initially as a feature film, appeared in the late 1990s, but due to creative differences the project got stuck in production hell. It was only in 2019 that a deal between Netflix and Warner Bros. was announced, which led to the long-awaited adaptation – already in the form of a series.
The Sandman, released in 2022, was a definite success – it received 88% on Rotten Tomatoes and unconditional love from fans of the comic as well as viewers unfamiliar with the original source.

For us The Sandman fans who yearned for a second season of Neil Gaiman's most enigmatic TV project, Dead Boy Detectives was a life-saver. The new Netflix show that follows the adventures of two ghosts who prefer solving supernatural mysteries to enjoying their afterlife is a fantastic addition to the already rich universe of The Sandman.
The spinoff somehow manages to be very similar and very different to its parent show at the same time. Despite the shared universe and the general The Sandman-esque vibe, Dead Boy Detectives is much more light-hearted and, if we may, fun.
Still, it was a real treat for fans to go full "meme Dicaprio" mode when they saw literally anything — or anyone — directly from The Sandman. The first Endless cameo awaited us right in the first episode, when Kirby Howell-Baptiste's Death arrived to collect a soul and Charles and Edwin had...

Chris McCausland and Lee Mack will star as feuding neighbours in Sky Max Christmas comedy Bad Tidings.
Comedians Chris McCausland and Lee Mack are building up quite a portfolio of work together – they previously collaborated on an episode of the latter’s hit sitcom Not Going Out last year, in which McCausland played a passenger travelling in the same carriage as Lee’s family, and they also presented at the BAFTAs together, as well as McCausland making appearances on Mack’s game show Would I Lie To You.
They are now starring together in festive film Bad Tidings for Sky Max. The synopsis reads as follows:
This year’s Sky Original Christmas special revolves around grumpy home-security expert Neil (Mack) and his neighbour Scott (McCausland), who insists on keeping his Christmas lights illuminated all-year-round. And mixing up their bins, criticising Neil’s ‘project’ car and generally winding him up. Basically,...

After spending decades in development hell, a live-action adaptation of the Neil Gaiman comic book series The Sandman actually made it into production and was released into the world as a Netflix series in August of 2022. (Read our review Here.) Season 2 of the show went into production last year, then had to be put on pause for a while due to the writers and actors strikes. Thankfully, The Sandman season 2 was able to resume production as soon as those strikes came to an end – and now, during an interview with Collider, cast member Kirby Howell-Baptiste has confirmed that the new episodes will bring more Death to the screen. Death being the character she plays on the show.
Of course, it wouldn’t be difficult for the new season to feature “more Death,” since Death was only in one episode of the first season. But Howell-Baptiste said that in addition to being present in more episodes,...

In Plato’s allegory of the cave, a group of people find themselves bound to the walls of a subterranean hangout. Ahead of them they see flickering shadows, caused by the distant fires of the sunlit world, but all else, for them, is darkness. Are these shadows reality, or just a pale facsimile? That was the question of two millennia ago: now it’s Channel 4’s turn to use darkness as an allegory for reality (or reality TV), with Scared in the Dark, a new five-part celebrity reality show told, not by Plato, but by Danny Dyer.
Scared of the Dark follows a group of eight celebrities – boxers Chris Eubank and Nicola Adams, singer Max George, Love Islander Chloe Burrows, ubiquitous TV person Scarlett Moffatt, actor Donna Preston, stand-up Chris McCausland and, well, Gazza – as they spend a week or so in the pitch black. “Located deep within a 146,000 sq ft hangar,...

Former England footballer Paul “Gazza” Gascoigne has become the first ever winner of experimental Channel 4 reality show Scared of the Dark.
Gascoigne came out on top over seven other celebrities, after spending 180 hours in complete darkness – living, eating, sleeping and completing challenges.
The series, billed as a “world first”, came to a close on Thursday (20 April) with the winner announced by host Danny Dyer.
Following his win, Gascoigne said he had been “nervous” to take part but said the experience had made him “a better person”.
“People always question my mental strength but my success on this series proves that I am strong,” he said.
“I was nervous going in there but having gotten this far on the series made me the happiest man around.
“I’m so happy. It’s unbelievable. I’ve got my smile back. I’m a better person.”

“The Sandman” is returning to Netflix. The streaming platform has officially renewed the Neil Gaiman series based on the DC Comics universe, expanding the franchise with new episodes based on other stories from the graphic novels.
Leading up to Wednesday’s evening announcement, there was rampant speculation among Netflix subscribers about whether “The Sandman” would be renewed or was even canceled, despite its success, even leading Gaiman to dispute a tweet from a fan account online. Leading up to Wednesday’s evening announcement, there was rampant speculation among Netflix subscribers about whether “The Sandman” would be renewed or was even canceled, despite its success, even leading Gaiman to dispute a tweet from a fan account online. If you've been suffering through the nightmare of Netflix no longer acknowledging the existence of "The Sandman," then you're in luck. Netflix has reportedly renewed the Neil Gaiman adaptation for a second season, according to insiders at Deadline. These reports come after DC Comics deleted a tweet regarding its renewal earlier today.
Needless to say, this is pretty exciting. Even though the first season of "The Sandman" had a few translation issues from page to screen, it was brimming with potential. It is clear from the show's writing that the team, headed up by showrunner Allan Heinberg, truly understood the stories they were adapting. Not only that, but the writing was brought to life by a cast that wasn't just sleepwalking their way through their characters.
Having it get another season will allow them to iron out the kinks, thus potentially resulting in the best Gaiman adaptation we've gotten yet.

After rumours began to spread that Netflix had cancelled The Sandman, forcing Neil Gaiman himself to call them out, Deadline reports that the streaming service has actually renewed the series for season 2
The renewal of The Sandman was accidentally leaked earlier today on DC Comics’ official Twitter page. “The dream continues,” read the since-deleted tweet. “[The Sandman] will return with new episodes based on multiple volumes of the Neil Gaiman graphic novel to explore even more stories of the Endless.” Although The Sandman received rave reviews upon its debut on August 5th, it wasn’t immediately clear whether Netflix would renew the series. Neil Gaiman had said that the future of the series was uncertain, so I’m sure fans are more than a little pleased to know that The Sandman has indeed been renewed for season 2. Update: In a statement, Neil Gaiman said:

If you already binged your way through all ten episodes of the Netflix / Neil Gaiman series The Sandman when the show premiered two weeks ago and desperately want to see more… well, here’s some great news. There is now more of The Sandman to watch on Netflix! The Netflix adaptation of The Sandman has been long anticipated both by early fans of the DC comic and by those who have come to enjoy the many wonderful Neil Gaiman televised offerings, from Good Omens to American Gods. But even with the inherent appeal of the classic comic and its creator, there’s something thrilling about recognizing an actor that’s been cast in a key role from other work that they’ve done, especially if it happens to be genre fare that makes them seem particularly suited for their part.
The cast of The Sandman includes many fresh faces that will no doubt become more recognizable as the series gains an audience. But below are some of the more seasoned actors that viewers will instantly recognize and get excited about seeing in their new roles.

The first season of the Netflix adaptation of The Sandman, arguably one of the greatest and most important comics of all time, is complete, and can be considered a rousing success. But it leaves several questions open when it ended, and asks one big one for Dream with its final scene.
Here is what happens in the final moments of The Sandman season 1 and what it might mean going forward.
What Did The Sandman Season 1 Adapt?
The first season of the show breaks down into two story arcs: the first five episodes follow Dream (Tom Sturridge) as he’s captured by Roderick Burgess (Charles Dance), escapes captivity, and works to recapture his tools and rebuild his kingdom. As a newcomer to Neil Gaiman’s seminal comic book series “The Sandman”, I came to Netflix’s adaptation with an open mind and curious eye. Knowing this 1989 title had spawned onscreen spinoffs of “Sandman” characters — “Lucifer,” “Constantine,” etcetera — but never one of its own, it was hard not to wonder what about it might have made a live-action version so hard that it never happened until now. As I went back and forth between the TV show and the original volumes, though, the difficulty that any production would have in tackling its scope became clearer — and made Netflix’s result more impressive, too.
As adapted by Gaiman, Allan Heinberg (“Wonder Woman”), and David S. Goyer, TV’s “The Sandman” errs toward a literal translation of the comics as often as possible. For as complex as the series’ mythology becomes, the show finds a way to introduce new fans without completely confusing them.

At one point in The Sandman, a 400-year-old Englishman (Ferdinand Kingsley) casually eviscerates a recent production of King Lear. “The idiots had given it a happy ending,” he scoffs. His conversation partner, Dream (Tom Sturridge) — as in, the physical manifestation of the concept of dreaming, and ruler of the impossible realm we travel to when we drift off to sleep — is less bothered. “That will not last,” he predicts sagely. “The great stories will always return to their original forms.”
The Sandman will require no such dramatic reversion to form. Executive produced by the comics’ creator, Neil Gaiman (alongside Allan Heinberg and David S. Goyer), the fantasy drama is nothing if not respectful of its source material. What the exchange about King Lear misses, however, is the way updated versions of great stories can be what keep them feeling fresh and relevant in the first place.

“The Sandman” series, adapted from Neil Gaiman’s 1989 comic series — co-created by Sam Keith and Mike Dringenberg — will creep into consciousness in the first week of August. The ten-episode series follows the story of The Dream King Morpheus, a powerful being aiming to correct past mistakes he made, both cosmically and more minutely.
Names behind the television interpretation of the DC comic include Allan Heinberg as showrunner, executive producer and writer, as well as David S. Goyer and Neil Gaiman as executive producers and writers. Many minds have combined to produce a series that walks between dream and waking worlds.
Fans of the comic, Gaiman and/or the sprawling ensemble cast may be wondering how to watch the haunting story, and the answers are pretty simple.

Few non-superhero comics are as beloved as Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman,” so expectations were high when Netflix brought its upcoming TV show based on the series to San Diego Comic-Con. But based on early footage, the adaptation is off to a good start.
The panel featured sneak previews of several important scenes. First, they showed David Thewlis as a foreboding figure that strikes up a conversation with his server at a remote diner. Then viewers got a peek at Tom Sturridge as Morpheus and Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine in a scene where the latter performs a wedding that quickly turns into an exorcism. Finally, fans got a look at an iconic scene from the comics, where Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) sits next to Morpheus and calls him “literally the stupidest, most self-centered, appallingest excuse for an anthropomorphic personification on this or any other planet.”

Friends, we’re happy to report the first full trailer for Netflix’s upcoming “The Sandman” has dropped as part of the show’s San Diego Comic-Con 2022 panel presentation in Hall H — and you can watch it here, right now. Or below:
Those at the panel got even more footage, in the form of three exclusive clips. The presentation opened with a short clip from later in the season, featuring a very, very accurate portrayal of the moment late in “Preludes and Nocturnes” when John Dee enters the diner. He chats with the waitress and explains to her the power of his Ruby. She doesn’t believe him, but comics readers know he is about to destroy her, and every other poor bastard in that diner.

“The Sandman” is almost here to wake you up. Netflix released a new trailer for the TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s iconic graphic novel series during the show’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con Saturday.
In the video, which comes just under two weeks out from the series’ Aug. 5 premiere, Tom Sturridge’s Sandman, who more commonly goes by Dream, is facing some true walking nightmares while sorting through the chaos brought on the world by the Corinthian (Boyd Holbrook) and Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie). The former is a monstrous being that looks like a man with no eyes, a creature of Dream’s own making, that is wandering the waking world terrorizing it. The latter is, of course, the devil itself. They are just two of many obstacles Dream has to overcome in an attempt to restore order to the universe — both the dreaming and awakened versions.

Netflix's Geeked Week got off to a thrilling start, with the streaming service dropping a lot of intel.
We'll start with the final season of Locke & Key.
The series was announced to be ending earlier this year, but now Netflix has revealed the last-ever episodes will drop Wednesday, August 10.
The series follows the Locke Siblings, who move into their ancestral home following the brutal murder of the father.
There, they come into contact with supernatural forces.
According to the final season synopsis, the family will uncover “more magic within Keyhouse, while a new threat — the most dangerous one yet — looms in Matheson with plans of his own for the keys.”
“Once we began working on the series, we felt three seasons was the ideal length to bring the story of the Locke family and their Keyhouse adventures to a satisfying conclusion,” showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill shared...

Neil Gaiman himself stands in awe of seeing The Sandman come to live-action life, in a new BTS featurette from the upcoming Netflix adaptation.
Based on the comic books created for DC by Gaiman, who is also an EP and a co-writer on the streaming series, The Sandman promises a “rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are
seamlessly interwoven,” as it follows”the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic — and human — mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.”

Netflix has yet to reveal a first look at its TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” comic book series, but the streaming service gave fans the next best thing on Tuesday: a behind-the-scenes look at production in England, hosted by Gaiman himself.
The video opens with creator and executive producer Gaiman speaking over images of his DC Comics series juxtaposed with shots of the costumes, sets and props for the TV show.
“‘The Sandman’ is the story of the place that we go when we close our eyes at night, and it’s called The Dreaming,” Gaiman says in the video. “The Dreaming is ruled by Morpheus. For 32 years, anybody who read ‘Sandman,’ read the comics. That world is ending. I’m here at Shepperton Studios and I’m getting to see what happens when you bring dreams to life.”

Warning: contains Inside No. 9 spoilers.
Right at the start, Bev told us she was celebrating a birthday. The significance of that indefinite article passed us by until she protested in the final minutes, “I never said it were my birthday.” Bev was celebrating on behalf of Ryan, the baby she’d snatched from his pram two decades ago as a disturbed 10-year-old, and killed, concealing his skeleton inside a child’s doll.
‘Hurry Up and Wait’ is an uncomfortable half-hour with a macabre conclusion, as befits the creators and director of Psychoville (which in Dawn French’s Joy, also featured a grown woman with a sinister attachment to a baby doll, that one following the death of her own son – the dead baby being the sine qua non of subversive comedy.) The episode is an emotionally cold grotesquerie driven by social awkwardness, cringe comedy, and light satire on the acting world.

Recently, it was announced that she was cast in the upcoming TV series The Sandman which is based on the DC Comics character. Her fans are excited to see what she will bring to the project. On top of that, working with Netflix could
