It’s time to head back to the Pride Lands in Barry Jenkins’ Lion King prequel. Watch the first Mufasa: The Lion King trailer below.
The Lion King, released in 2019, proved to be a controversial one. While early reactions praised the film’s visual effects, others found fault in its all-cgi creatures. Really, it was a strange move from Disney to call it a live-action version of such a beloved classic when it was all created on a computer screen.
Regardless, the film has spawned a prequel, and Moonlight director Barry Jenkins signed on to direct what we now know is called Mufasa.
Take a look at the Mufasa: The Lion King trailer below.
It certainly looks like it’s going to be more of the same, so if you weren’t a fan of 2019’s The Lion King, something tells us this might be a miss for you too.

The Lion King remains, even today, as one of the most beloved Disney animated features. A true classic, the movie is considered to be one of Disney’s best animated movies, despite the fact that there were some controversies related to Kimba: The White Lion back then. Now, in 2019, Disney produced a live-action CGI remake of The Lion King which was also a solid success for the production company and we know that this year will see a prequel, titled Mufasa: The Lion King, premiere in cinemas on December 20, 2024.
So far, Disney has been scarce about releasing footage from the upcoming Barry Jenkins-directed movie, but the attendees at CinemaCon got to see the first exclusive teaser for the upcoming movie. James Corden's tenure as "The Late Late Show" host has come to an end. On April 27, CBS sent him off with a prime-time special honoring some of his best moments (and debuting two final bits with Adele and Tom Cruise) before the actual final episode aired, with guests Harry Styles and Will Ferrell. For Cruise's segment, Corden got the "Top Gun" actor to join him in the Los Angeles stage production of "The Lion King," and the duo learned puppetry and songs before eventually donning the two-person elephant costume in the show's opening number, "The Circle of Life."
Later in the show, they appeared as Timon and Pumba and performed "Hakuna Matata." Watch their journey to stage glory above. The prime-time special also featured Adele's final Carpool Karaoke with Corden. Adele filmed her original car singalong video with Corden in 2016, and it's since racked up 261 million views on YouTube.

“The Lion King,” a Disney Media Franchise, commemorated its 26th anniversary this past June. It is a genuine archetypal that can captivate audiences of all ages. The first Lion King film in the series was produced in 1994.
According to Environment Weekly, there were more than 600 animators involved in the production of “The Lion King” including animators, technicians, and other crucial figures. In fact, every moment was arduously explored, reorganized, and refined again which cost a lot of money, time, and a lot of headaches. And here’s the result – the great movie “The Lion King.”
The key to its success comes from its skilfully constructed characters who frequently walk and act like their real-life equivalents. The real-life lions were brought to the studio for the animators to study.

The first reactions to The Lion King remake are in, and they’re hugely positive. As with all of Disney’s live-action reboots, there’s been a mixed reception from fans in the run-up to its release, with many feeling that it’s unnecessary but others happy to bask in the nostalgia of one of their favorite animated movies getting reimagined. Going by these initial thoughts from those who saw an early screening of the film, though, it sounds like it’s a stunning watch.
First of all, step aside Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast – this might just be the best Disney remake yet.
Just finished #TheLionKing! I absolutely loved every second of it. The VFX on the animals were incredibly detailed and the music was on another level. This might be my favorite Disney live action adaption this far! pic.twitter.com/1CExxs6kAB

Following “Dumbo” and “Aladdin,” it appears Disney has saved its best remake of 2019 for last with “The Lion King.” The first reactions for Jon Favreau’s adaptation of the 1994 animated classic began pouring in after the movie’s July 9 world premiere and to say they are positive would be an understatement. Critics are already hailing the film as a “visual masterpiece” that quite possibly has the best visual effects in film history. Favreau’s “The Jungle Book” won the Best Visual Effects Oscar and now “The Lion King” looks like the clear frontrunner for 2020.
“‘The Lion King” is a landmark visual experience,” wrote Buzzfeed’s Adam B. Vary. “I’ve never seen anything like it, and I think it’s going to change how we look at movies forever. As an emotional experience, though…I’ll put it this way: It turns out lions can’t really emote.”

The early consensus after the world premiere Tuesday night of Disney’s “The Lion King” remake is that it’s visually staggering, has plenty of heart, and tugs nostalgically on the heartstrings of anyone who saw the 1994 original as a kid.
So hakuna matata, Disney.
“If you’re hoping this will be a near-exact adaptation of the animated movie with some absolutely jaw-dropping visual effects, you’ll get what you’re looking for,” IGN’s Terri Schwartz tweeted.

In this crazy society of recycled animated cash-grabs, The Lion King‘s looking to be a strong addition. With that said, almost every single piece of marketing material we’ve gotten indicates a nearly identical, copy-and-paste production. But hey, at least it’s not Dumbo. And if you have to duplicate any film, the 1994 Academy Award winner’s not a bad one to choose.
The latest TV spot for the upcoming remake continues on with the tradition of its predecessors, but with a special little twist. For the first time, we’re given a look at the star-studded cast singing together.
Boldly beginning with Donald Glover (Simba) and Beyonce’s (Nala) rendition of “Can You Feel The Love Tonight,” you can check out the spot for yourself above.

Director Jon Favreau’s upcoming adaptation of Disney’s The Lion King looks visually stunning and the way the animals have been brought to life looks better than anything that we’ve ever seen before.
We have a few new photos to share with you today that shows off some of the CG animal characters thanks to EW. That includes new looks at Scar, Simba, Timon, Pumba and Rafiki. The magazine also talked with the cast and crew about the film and the characters that they play.
While it looks like The Lion King is going to basically be a shot-for-shot remake of the original animated film, Favreau explains how they were looking to reinvent the story, saying:

The Lion King reboot is coming whether Disney purists want it or not, but at the very least, the studio has made sure that the cast for the live-action (er . . . CGI?) revival of the beloved story is star-studded, to put it lightly. While we're excited to see Donald Glover as Simba, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumba, and James Earl Jones returning to play Mufasa, we're admittedly the most interested in seeing how Homecoming queen Beyoncé tackles the role of Nala.
We get a few brief glimpses of the character in the latest trailer, but we've yet to hear any of her dialogue or musical performances. Fortunately, while sitting down for an interview with EW about the film, director Jon Favreau gave us a bit more perspective on what made the superstar want to play Nala. Hear Simba roar! The first official trailer for Disney's live-action adaptation of The Lion King has finally arrived, so consider us excited beyond belief. The film stars Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Beyoncé, Billy Eichner, James Earl Jones, and more in the film's biggest roles. In the minute and a half of footage above, we see a glimpse of young Simba - who's unbearably cute! - facing down Scar, hanging with Nala, running around with Timon and Pumba, and other re-creations of some of the 1994 animated film's most iconic moments.
Unsurprisingly, the CGI is nature documentary perfection, which has us even more excited for it to come out. Between this film, Aladdin, Lilo & Stitch, and all the other live-action Disney adaptations scheduled for release, we have so much to look forward to. Watch the official trailer above, as well as the previous teasers ahead, before it hits theaters on July 19, 2019. Then,...

“You must take your place in the circle of life.”
Disney has released a brand new trailer for director Jon Favreau’s adaptation of The Lion King and it is looking like a beautifully-made film filled with stunning visuals. As you’ll see, this movie is going to follow the story of the original film very closely.
The trailer also features our first look at several of the characters from the film including Scar, Nala, Timon, Pumba, Zazu, and more. Favreau used the same cutting-edge CG technology he used in The Jungle Book to bring these characters and this story to life in an amazing way.
Disney’s “The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau (“The Jungle Book”), journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival.

Disney returns to Pride Lands in the first official trailer for Jon Favreau’s remake of “The Lion King.”
The new clip, featuring dazzlingly realistic footage of the African savannah filled with giraffes, antelopes, and zebras, begins with a young Simba getting some advice from his wicked uncle Scar.
“Life’s not fair is it, my little friend?” Scar asks his timid nephew. “While some are born to feast, others spend their lives in the dark, begging for scraps.”
Later on in the trailer, Mufasa offers sage wisdom, telling Simba: “You must take your place in the circle of life.”
“Everything you see exists together in a delicate balance,” Mufasa says. “While others search for what they can take, a true king searches for what he can give.”
The trailer also features the first, albeit brief, taste of a musical number. The clip ends with a realistic-looking Timbon and Pumbaa singing “A-weema-weh,...

Hakuna Matata, indeed.
Disney debuted all-new footage of the highly anticipated remake at CinemaCon, the annual exhibition trade show in Las Vegas. The roughly five minute clip followed a young Simba (Jd McCrary) and his father Mufasa as they survey their kingdom in the Pride Lands.
“Look, Simba, everything the light touches is our kingdom,” Mufasa intones, instructing the princeling that “a king’s time as ruler rises and falls like the sun. One day, Simba, the sun will set on my time here, and will rise with you as the new king.”
These are lines made famous by the 1994 animated classic. The 2019 edition is a remake of sorts, but one that puts a photorealistic polish on the familiar story. And oh, what wondrous effects are being deployed in that effort. Director Jon Favreau has created a stunningly realistic African savannah, a sun-baked landscape that teems with herds of antelopes and elephants.
