By 2018, Will Compton, a 28-year-old backup linebacker on a one-year contract with the Tennessee Titans, knew his playing days were numbered. Contemplating a career after football, he considered going into real estate or coaching but couldn’t muster much enthusiasm for either. Driving home after a game one evening, he called Taylor Lewan, an offensive tackle for the Titans and his closest friend on the team, with whom he’d just done a postgame segment on Titans Radio. The two, who had bonded over their fondness for podcasts like The Joe Rogan Experience, had undeniable chemistry on the air, and the experience got them thinking about starting their own podcast. For Lewan, who had just signed a six-year deal with the Titans, it sounded like a fun time. For Compton, it was a go-for-broke career plan. The following year, they launched Bussin’ With the Boys.

Exclusive: CAA sports media agent Michael Klein is leaving the agency to form a management company with a specialty in audio and betting.
His client roster, includes ESPN’s Mina Kimes and Bomani Jones as well as Pft Commenter, the alter ego of Barstool Sports NFL writer Eric Sollenberger, will continue to be co-repped with CAA.
The new firm, Silver Tribe Media, will be based in LA.
Sports wagering has been dramatically expanding since the Supreme Court made a landmark ruling in 2018 legalizing it in New Jersey. A number of other states have followed in legalizing betting, and businesses like DraftKings and FanDuel have grown along with the opportunity. Media companies have also jumped aboard the betting trend. With increasing numbers of athletes looking to establish a media presence, Klein sees Silver Tribe as a home for those looking to take that step.

Updated with details from analysts’ call: WarnerMedia parent AT&T has clinched hotly anticipated deal to sell a significant minority stake in satellite broadcaster DirecTV to private equity group Tpg in a deal that will net the telecom giant $7.8 billion.
The deal, expected to close in the second half of 2021, values DirecTV’s video business at $16.25 billion. In a hastily organized call with analysts Thursday, AT&T CEO John Stankey admitted, “We certainly didn’t expect this” in 2015 when the telco giant acquired DirecTV for $48 billion (or $67 billion including debt), testament to the steep secular decline in the business. A few years later, AT&T acquired Time Warner, envisioning a powerful combination of programming and distribution under one roof.
In the complex deal, the partners will establish a new company, still called DirecTV, that will own and operate AT&T’s U.S. video business unit consisting of DirecTV, AT&T TV and U-verse video services.

Highly indebted WarnerMedia parent AT&T has received bids for DirecTV that value the satellite broadcaster at more than $15 billion, according to a report Wednesday in the Wall Street Journal.
A spokesman for AT&T declined to comment.
Two of the bids came from private equity firm Apollo Global Management and from Churchill Capital Corp, a Spac, or special purpose acquisition vehicle, run by former media banker Michael Klein, the WSJ said. There are a glut of these so-called bank check firm looking for companies to acquire and take public. It said a deal could potentially close early next year.
AT&T, with about $149 billion in debt, much of it assumed in the Time Warner acquisition, has been shedding some non-core assets. Executives, including CEO John Stankey at a media conference yesterday — have promised to sell more. DirecTV like most of the traditional pay-tv universe, has been leaking subscribers but still brings in lots of cash.

Here ends, I suppose, the series of cryptic emails I have exchanged with director Patrik Syversen in which he has spent a bout a year telling me that he's working on something while declining to elaborate further. Heh.
Syversen should really need no introduction around these parts. As the director of Rovdyr - Manhunt in English speaking markets - Syversen has been at the forefront of the wave of genre film currently emerging from the Nordic countries. And though Rovdyr showed a few growing pains it also clearly showed that Syversen was ready for bigger things, a lesson clearly not lost on the folks behind the After Dark Films, who tapped the director to helm one of their initial slate of original productions. Here are the details, and check a pair of stills below!
