One of TV’s most iconic families gets a chance to say goodbye.
Deadline reports that The Conners is nearing an official pickup at ABC for Season 7.
The caveat is that it would be the Roseanne follow-up’s final season of around six episodes.
A deal is still being ironed out but is expected to be finalized relatively soon. John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, and Lecy Goranson are among the cast members expected to return.
Many final seasons of long-running shows lose cast members due to the ever-increasing costs of making TV.
A consistent performer for ABC since it premiered, the show has much softer ratings than Roseanne – all following Roseanne’s controversial cancellation in 2018.

Today's intel is a bit of a mixed bag for fans of The Conners.
After months of cancelation rumors, the long-running Roseanne spinoff has been renewed for a seventh season.
That's the good news.
The bad news is that the show will be coming to an end for good.
And it will do so with a dramatically reduced episode count.
According to a report from Deadline, producers were able to work out a deal with ABC wherein the show will be extended so that it can offer viewers a proper conclusion.
Unfortunately, that conclusion will unfold over just six episodes.
Again, it could've been worse, as there were fears that The Conners would be unceremoniously kicked to the curb at the end of its current season.
The situation was so dire that a tag scene was shot for the upcoming season finale that would end the story in a satisfactory way,...

One of TV’s most popular families may soon be saying goodbye for good.
Currently in its sixth season, The Conners has yet to be renewed or canceled by ABC.
Deadline reports that the Roseanne follow-up has yet to begin negotiating deals with its stars, including John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, and Sara Gilbert.
The focus is renewal negotiations between the studio and the network to keep the show on the air for a seventh and final season.
The Conners rose like a phoenix out of the ashes of Roseanne, which was canceled despite a huge reboot season after leading lady Roseanne Barr’s controversial comments about Valerie Jarrett.
The series has been a strong performer for ABC, but could the show seriously be canceled ahead of a pre-planned final season?
The Conners remains a strong performer

When Roseanne premiered in 1988, the ABC series offered viewers a bold new take on the traditional family sitcom.
In the era of Full House, The Cosby Show, and Growing Pains, the Conners reminded Americans that not all households are filled with affluent parents imparting valuable life lessons to their grateful, obedient children.
The Simpsons often receives the lion's share of the credit for expanding our notion of what a sitcom family could look like.
But it's worth noting that Roseanne beat Homer and company to the punch when it came to mining comedic gold out of suburban dysfunction.
The show was a critical success right out of the gate, and over the course of its nine-season run, it developed into a reliable ratings juggernaut.
In its second season, Roseanne stunned skeptics by knocking The Cosby Show out of the top spot on the Nielsen charts.

Television series don't always end on their own terms. Some of the greatest shows in the medium's history have been canceled due to low ratings before they could finish telling their overarching story or just as they were hitting their stride creatively. Some of the most egregious examples of series getting the axe before their time include "My So-Called Life," "Arrested Development," "Frank's Place," "Sports Night," "I'll Fly Away," "Deadwood," and "Mindhunters." It's possible no one has had a more brutal small-screen run than Judd Apatow, who, before he became a hit-making film producer, watched helplessly as three superb, critically acclaimed comedies — "The Ben Stiller Show," "Freaks and Geeks" and "Undeclared" — failed to earn a second season.
Sometimes, fan enthusiasm results in these works getting revived in some incarnation or another, and, unfortunately, the results are often unsightly. But at least there's a reason for going back. The same isn't...

1. Roseanne (Season 10) The revival of Roseanne was met with both anticipation and success, but it was abruptly halted by the personal actions of its lead, Roseanne Barr. Roseanne Barr’s controversial tweets, particularly one comparing former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett to an ape, sparked a public outcry and swift action from ABC. Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show, stated Channing Dungey, the ABC Entertainment president. Disney CEO Bob Iger supported this decision, saying, there was only one thing to do here, and that was the right...

Donald Trump Jr. went live with Barr on the video platform Rumble, in an hour and 20-minute episode entitled, “The Left Wants to Kill Comedy, but They’ll Never Stop Roseanne.”
In their conversation, Barr spoke candidly about her experience with cancel culture and her fall from fame.

John Goodman opened up about defending Roseanne Barr when she posted a racist tweet in 2018.
Barr’s tweet was an attack against Valerie Jarrett, a former chief executive officer of the Obama Foundation. The irresponsible tweet caused major backlash and many to lose their jobs after ABC canceled her comedy show, Roseanne.
After canceling the long-running sitcom, ABC decided to air a spin-off later in the same year called The Connors, in which Barr’s character, Roseanne, is killed off.
In a recent interview with Variety, Goodman was asked if he regrets speaking up for Barr.
“No. At the time I remember going to some kind of junket where they saw the pilot, and then the interviews, and it just turned into attack,” he said. “And that made me very uncomfortable with them just attacking Roseanne. “
The Golden Globe winner also explained that he “felt bad for her” and that he “loves her.

Roseanne Barr‘s latest rant is likely to further her isolation in Hollywood.
In a new interview with podcaster Theo Von, Barr proclaimed, “Nobody died in the Holocaust, that’s the truth.”
“Six million Jews should die right now ’cause they cause all the problems in the world,” she said.
Von asked her if she was half Jewish to which she responded that she is “all Jewish.”

The antisemitic comments were made after she said sarcastically that President Joe Biden won the 2020 election. Barr has been a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump in the past.
Von appeared confused and asked, “So it wasn’t rigged?”
“Of course not,” she replied. “Thirty-six counties have 81 million [votes] and that’s the truth and don’t you dare say anything. That’s where you’ll be off YouTube, Facebook,...

After Roseanne Barr started garnering more controversy than ever and was kicked off of her own show – and thus earning an episode of “Wtf Happened to This Celebrity?!” – many of her longtime collaborators started distancing themselves from the star, including former onscreen husband John Goodman.
Speaking to Variety at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, John Goodman said he isn’t entirely sure if he’d ever work with Roseanne again. “I don’t know. If she’d liked to… I just don’t know. I miss her…I wish her well.” He went on to defend standing up for her at the time when she was facing her harshest – albeit much-deserved – criticism. “At the time I remember going to some kind of junket where they saw the pilot, and then the interviews, and it just turned into attack. And that made me very uncomfortable with them just attacking Roseanne…Yeah, I felt bad for her.

“The Conners” and “The Righteous Gemstones” star John Goodman says he misses his “Roseanne” co-star Roseanne Barr, but he’s not sure he’d work with her again.
Hit sitcom “Roseanne” was canceled by ABC in 2018 after a racially-charged tweet by Barr about Valerie Jarrett, an African American woman who was a senior adviser to Barack Obama throughout his presidency. Barr later apologized.
Later that year, Goodman told the Sunday Times: “I was surprised at the response. And that’s probably all I should say about that … I know for a fact that she’s not a racist.” He added that Barr was “going through hell.” Barr then thanked Goodman “for speaking truth about me.”
At the Monte-Carlo Television Festival this week, where he served as president of the fiction jury, Variety sat down with Goodman in the Blue Gin Lounge of the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel, overlooking the Mediterranean.

There is more strife within the Conner clan, as Roseanne Barr is going after her former TV daughter, Sara Gilbert, who played middle child Darlene on Roseanne. The former matriarch has come after Gilbert, saying she’s a backstabber who took advantage of her during the fallout from her racist tweets and cancellation of her show.

Roseanne Barr Vows to Be ‘More Offensive Than [I’ve] Ever Been’ in Return to Stand-Up Comedy (Video)
Roseanne Barr is back in her first comedy special in nearly 20 years and makes it perfectly clear to her fans that she’s “more offensive than [I’ve] ever been before.”
The disgraced comedian was fired from “The Conners” in 2018 over a racist tweet about former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett in which she said Jarrett was what would have resulted if “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby.” Barr’s aptly titled comedy special “Cancel This!” which airs Monday, Feb. 13 on Fox Nation is a giant middle finger to the cancel culture that quickly did her in.

Roseanne Barr is not a fan of ABC's The Conners.
The comedian is speaking out about the decision to kill off her Roseanne character in the series premiere of the spinoff.

Roseanne Barr won’t be signing up to The Conners fan club any time soon, as the controversial comedian has revealed she “can’t bear” to watch the ABC sitcom. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times ahead of her new standup special, Roseanne Barr: Cancel This!, which premieres on Fox Nation on Monday, Barr took issue with the show’s decision to kill her character off. “It didn’t faze them to murder [Roseanne],” she stated. “They s*** on my contribution to television and the show itself.” The Conners launched in 2018 as a spinoff from the Roseanne revival, which was canceled following backlash to a racist tweet Barr had made about former Barack Obama aide Valerie Jarrett. In the offshoot’s first episode, it was revealed that Roseanne Conner had died. When asked if she watches The Conners, Barr said, “No. I just can’t bear it, so I don’t.

Roseanne Barr has accused Hollywood of having double standards.

Almost five years after ABC canceled her comedy following her tirade of racist and anti-semitic tweets, Roseanne Barr is returning with the stand-up special Roseanne Barr: Cancel This!, premiering Monday on Fox Nation.
The special debuts the same day on the streaming service as a documentary on her career, Who Is Roseanne Barr?
Barr lost her television show, Roseanne, in May 2018. One of the tweets she posted that day called former President Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett an offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.”
Barr followed up with an apology but it was too late: ABC canned her hours later.
Barr comes across as sanguine about the experience, which she blamed on taking the drug Ambien. She told the Los Angeles Times, “I’ve survived. I’ve come out on the other side of it, finally. But it was a witch-burning. And it was terrifying. It was.

Roseanne Barr lashed out at Hollywood in a new interview, suggesting she’s been held to a cancel culture double standard.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times released Thursday, the comedian slammed ABC for firing her in 2018 from her top-rated sitcom Roseanne (which was subsequently rebranded The Conners), and compared her treatment to that of two other popular transgressive comics, Dave Chappelle and Louis C.K.
“They didn’t do it to anyone else in Hollywood, although they always [mention] Dave Chappelle and Louis C.K.,” she told The Los Angeles Times. “Well, Louis C.K. did lose everything, but he committed an actual [offense]. And Dave Chappelle was protected by Netflix. I’m the only person who’s lost everything, whose life’s work was stolen, stolen by people who I thought loved me. And there was silence. There was no one in Hollywood really defending me publicly, except for Mo’nique,...

Actress and comedian Roseanne Barr is set to return to stand-up comedy for the first time since her 2006 HBO special, Blonde and Bitchin’, in a new comedy special for Fox Nation.
Using the NFC Championship Game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers, Fox dropped a 15-second-long teaser for Barr’s upcoming special – Roseanne Barr: Cancel This! – which showed Barr stepping onstage and asking the audience “Has anybody else been fired recently?”
Taped at Houston’s Cullen Theatre, Cancel This! is set to debut on Fox’s streaming platform on February 13. The title and question posed in the teaser both refer to the short-lived 2018 revival of her hit ABC sitcom Roseanne (1988 – 1997), which was cancelled after Barr faced enormous backlash for making a racist tweet about Valerie Jarrett, who served as the senior adviser to President Barack Obama.

Documentary filmmaker Peter Kunhardt began working on HBO’s “Obama: In Pursuit of a More Perfect Union” in 2014, while the former president was still in the White House. The director-exec producer and Jelani Cobb, a writer for the New Yorker and exec producer on this three-part docuseries, spent four years researching and discovering rare and never-before-seen archival footage of Obama before filming commenced in 2018. Kunhardt conducted 39 interviews with a wide range of people including Cobb, late Congressman John Lewis, Valerie Jarrett, David Axelrod, Rev. Al Sharpton as well as Rev. Jeremiah Wright during the course of production.
The diverse voices allowed Kunhardt, who previously directed “John McCain: From Whom the Bell Tolls” for HBO, to examine and critique the former president’s personal and political journey, as well as the United States’ fraught racial history. The key to Barack Obama’s electoral success — and to the ways his post-presidency will continue to evolve — could be his talent as a writer.
It’s not simply his eloquence, his ability to convey his beliefs to a sprawling and fractious electorate. It’s also his gift at packaging his experiences and image of himself. Before he was a politician, Obama was a memoirist, and, fittingly, he has made a career of using accessibly plain English to convert life’s complications into a forward-moving narrative.
What Obama has lately lacked, though, is a meaningful mission onto which to pin his talents: His first presidential memoir was blandly written and rote, suggesting he’d rather be looking ahead than back. And Obama’s multimedia projects, like his frequent book and music recommendations and the podcast he co-hosted with Bruce Springsteen, suggest an eagerness to stay in the conversation without a...
