That Time Meryl Streep Was Motivated By Money To Take A TV Role For The Sake Of The Love Of Her Life
Hollywood is not the place you think of first when it comes to stories of true love or long-lasting romantic relationships. But just like in her professional life, famed thespian Meryl Streep bucked the trend with her real-life relationship with the late actor John Cazale. The relationship even made the fastidious Streep break her own rule of doing a role purely for the sake of money.

Cazale was a rising star in Hollywood when he first made Streep’s acquaintance thanks to their joint work in a 1976 stage production of Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure. Streep was in her 20s, while Cazale was 14 years older and making a name for himself with prominent roles in The Godfather and its sequel, The Conversation, and Dog Day Afternoon.

Meryl Streep has been regarded as one of the most successful people of all time. Having broken records with how talented she is, normality has long escaped her life. However, many might not know that the actress faced one of the most human tragedies of them all; loss.
Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada
Before getting married to Don Gummer, Streep was famously involved with her Measure for Measure co-star, John Cazale, who was best known for his work on projects like The Deer Hunter and The Godfather. The two shared a very close and intimate connection that lasted until his passing from lung cancer. Many have found the actress to be very brave to have gone through such sorrow while simultaneously working.
However, it is when greatness is in the company of greatness that they are finally allowed to be people. Al Pacino is at the same level of fame as Streep.

Meryl Streep may be one of the most celebrated actors of all time, but she considers motherhood her greatest role. It's also been her biggest challenge, according to her. When asked whether acting or parenting is harder, she told the Washington Post in 1998, "Mothering. Definitely."
Streep and her estranged husband, Don Gummer, whom she married in 1978 and has been reportedly separated from for more than six years, share four children together: son Henry and daughters Mamie, Grace, and Louisa, all of whom are the spitting image of the "Only Murders in the Building" star and have followed in her famous footsteps in one way or another. While one of Streep's kids went the musician route, the others share her acting background.
Through the years, Streep has remained private when it comes to her family life, though she's attended high-profile events with her children on a handful of occasions. She's also...

Meryl Streep and her husband, Don Gummer, have been quietly separated for over six years.
A representative for Streep said in a statement, “While they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart.”
The couple was married in 1978 and has not been publicly seen together since the 2018 Oscars. Despite the separation, Streep has continued to wear her wedding ring.
The Oscar-winning actress and sculptor were first introduced in 1978 by Streep’s brother.
The two were married six months later in September, and welcomed their first child, Henry Wolfe, in November 1979.
Over the course of their relationship, the couple have three more children: Mamie Gummer, 40, Grace Gummer, 37, and Louisa Jacobson, 30. The two now have five grandchildren.

(Welcome to Best Actor Ever, an ongoing series where we explore the careers and performances of the greatest performers to ever grace the screen.)
At the outset of the 1980s, five years after earning her Mfa from the Yale School of Drama in 1975, Meryl Streep had been nominated for two Oscars and won one (Best Supporting Actress for "Kramer vs. Kramer"). By the end of the decade, she had six more nominations to her name, and a Best Actress win for "Sophie's Choice." Though her penchant for flawlessly adopting a new accent with seemingly every role had begun to feel like something of a stunt, few could deny that each character felt fresh and fully realized. She became these women.
But who was Meryl Streep? Which of her characters most closely resembled the New Jersey-born daughter of an artist and a pharmaceutical executive? No one, not even her directors, could say for sure.

Earlier in the week, Mamie gave a glimpse of her growing belly when she hit the red carpet for the premiere of Mary Queen of Scots in NYC.

Happy anniversary, Meryl Streep and Don Gummer! Who's he? You may ask. The Oscar winner is married to a sculptor, Don Gummer, and the two celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday. You don't see him on a red carpet that much. He and Streep are parents to four children—musician and actor Henry Wolfe Gummer, actresses Mamie Gummer and Grace Gummer and model Louisa Gummer. While many celebrities marry other famous people, some stars' spouses or boyfriends or girlfriends hold "regular" jobs and are very under-the-radar. Other celebs marry within the entertainment industry, but their partners simply choose to stay out of the...

Meryl Streep is indubitably counted by anyone and everyone as one of Hollywood’s most treasured and decorated actors with three Emmys and three Academy Awards—not to mention 18 more Oscar nominations—and her comfortably sophisticated, art-filled penthouse in downtown New York City’s expensively trendy Tribeca neighborhood, now available at $24.6 million, is ready for a close up of its own in all the property gossip columns. As per property records, and first noted by the eagle-eyed kids at Curbed, Streep and husband Don Gummer, an accomplished sculptor known for large, free-standing abstract works, purchased the roomy but well short of conspicuously large 3,944-square-foot urban aerie in 2006 for $10.13 million.

When it comes to long-term Hollywood couples, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell or Meryl Streep and Don Gummer might come to mind first, but Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye Smith have been showing everyone how it's done for 25 years now. Three years after Pierce lost his wife and the mother of his three kids, Cassandra Harris, in 1991, he met Keely while she was working as a TV correspondent at a party in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. She helped him put his heart back together, and it looks like it's been a fairy tale for the two - who made things official when they tied the knot in 2001 - ever since.

You couldn’t blame Meryl Streep if she wanted to rest on her laurels. She just turned 69, and she’s earned a record 21 acting Oscar nominations. "I could retire and start collecting a pension," she jokes of balancing fame and family. "But the kids are out of the house, and the scripts keep coming." Do they ever! She’ll appear in the musicals Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and Mary Poppins Returns and take her first TV series role in Season 2 of HBO’s Big Little Lies. "I pretty much pick whatever I fall in love with, whatever speaks to me," she exclusively told Closer. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) Such self-confidence has been hard-earned for Meryl. Meryl Streep and Don Gummer have one of the most inspiring marriages in Hollywood, and the story of how they met is no different. Their meeting in 1978 was actually a result of a tragic event in Meryl's life - her partner, Godfather actor John Cazale, had just died of bone cancer. Don, who is a sculptor, was a friend of Meryl's brother, Harry, and arrived in NYC with him to help her move out of the loft she shared with John. Although sparks didn't initially fly between them, Don invited her to move into his vacant apartment while he traveled and they corresponded through letters. Meryl Streep has been married to her husband, Don Gummer, for 39 years now. Even though Don is often by her side at red carpet events and she frequently thanks him in her acceptance speeches, not much is known about Meryl's other half - up until now, anyway. Here are a few things to know about the man who stole Meryl's heart. He is a talented sculptor. Don attended Boston's School of Museum of Fine Arts, as well as Yale, where he received his bachelor's and master's in fine arts. He has a beautiful family with Meryl. The couple has four children together: daughters Louisa, Grace, and Mamie, and son Henry. Grace and Mamie are both actresses, Louisa is a model, and Henry is a musician. He's a tad bit older than Meryl. Don was born on Dec. 12, 1946, which makes him 70, and Meryl was born on June 22, 1949, making her 68. He met Meryl through her brother,...

Pierce Bronsan and Keely Shaye Smith will be celebrating 16 years of marriage in August, but the couple have been making us swoon over their romance long before then. Pierce and Keely began dating in 1994, and the story of how they met is actually very similar to that of his Mamma Mia! costar Meryl Streep and her husband, Don Gummer. Pierce lost his wife of 11 years and the mother of three kids, Cassandra Harris, in 1991, and three years later, he met Keely while she was working as a TV correspondent at a party in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Keely was sent to interview Ted Danson and ended up connecting with Pierce instead. "He was captivating," Keely told People in 2001. Meryl Streep appeared to have the time of her life when she attended the premiere of her new movie, Florence Foster Jenkins, in New York City on Tuesday. While her giggly antics with costars Hugh Grant and Simon Helberg were enough to make anyone's night, it was her low-key date that really caught our eye. The Oscar winner brought along her look-alike daughter, Louisa, to the premiere, and to say she stunned would be an understatement. Louisa, who is a 25-year-old model, let her famous mom have her moment in the spotlight and posed solo for photos in a chic navy blue jumpsuit. Meryl, who is also mom to Mamie, Grace, and Henry with husband Don Gummer, is just one of the many Hollywood moms who are nearly identical to their kids.

New York -- On "Emily Owens, M.D.," Mamie Gummer plays a med school graduate just starting out as an intern.
No longer will Emily be the nerdy schoolgirl plagued by nervous perspiration, exclusion from the cool crowd and awkwardness with boys! She has reached a long-awaited turning point: adulthood. At least, that's what she tells herself.
Except her new life as a doctor feels uncomfortably like her former life. Denver Memorial Hospital feels eerily like high school, with its cliques and gossip and a fellow intern who, gorgeous and popular, was Emily's nemesis back in high school.
As a doctor, Emily knows her stuff.
But on a personal level, she's still dorky and naive.
"She's really smart," says Gummer, "which rescues her when her heart and lack of confidence get her into jams. She's very easy to embrace. I really love her!"
