The television industry won’t waste any time when it comes to getting back to work following the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike. With a focus on broadcast shows, prep and pre-production are well underway.
However, anxious viewers shouldn’t get too excited about their favorite scripted series coming back, as it could take more time than expected. When the writers strike ended at the end of September, the rooms opened up the following week, but that doesn’t mean that the actors can do the same.
Dick Wolf’s writers went back into their respective rooms Oct. 4, so filming could begin as early as the week after Thanksgiving, kicking off on Nov. 27. Prep could start next week, with filming underway eight or nine days later. With that schedule, a 10- to 13-episode season would be ready to debut in mid-February or March.

"Community" showrunners David Gurascio and Nick Port assured fans on Friday at the show's Comic-Con panel that it would not drop off in quality without Dan Harmon, the show's creator and showrunner who was fired in May. NBC soon brought Gurascio and Port aboard to take over. TV Guide's Michael Schneider began the panel by asking, "It's going to be Ok right?" "Listen, a couple months ago we were a...

Diane Haithman contributes to Deadline’s TV coverage At tonight’s PaleyFest panel on Two And A Half Men, co-creators/executive producers Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn and star Ashton Kutcher wouldn’t give a straight answer as to whether Kutcher will be back next season. Kutcher has been in talks for a new deal, which would seal the series’ renewal for a tenth season. “Here’s the thing, I don’t think that the show’s been picked up for another year,” Kutcher told moderator Michael Schneider of TV Guide Magazine. “I’m absolutely adoring the time that I’m having, but I haven’t heard from the powers that be yet, so I don’t know.” Lorre also was coy, saying the decision “is above my pay grade.” On the renewal front, “It’s unusual when they cancel a show that’s in the Top 10. I think there’s hope,...

In the latest issue of TV Guide Magazine, which hits newsstands Thursday, Dec. 15, Lorre talks to editor Michael Schneider, who's been teasing that the man of many multi-cam sitcoms finally tells all.
But it's worth noting that it's Emmy winner Jon Cryer -- not the recently gossip-plagued Kutcher -- who's gracing the cover with Lorre, along with 'Mike & Molly' funny lady Melissa McCarthy and Jim Parsons of 'The Big Bang Theory,' who've both also taken home Emmy love for their Lorre-created roles. New York (Reuters) - Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard, cast in the next Batman movie, has a role in a real life Gotham crime after a stalker sent threatening messages to her fan site.
Teresa "Terri" Yuan, who lives in Queens, was arrested by the FBI on Thursday last week, said Robert Nardoza, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office in Brooklyn, which also covers Queens.
She was charged with sending threatening messages to a French movie actress, according to a criminal complaint. The actress is Cotillard, a law enforcement source told Reuters on Saturday.
Federal authorities have 30 days to seek a grand jury indictment. Yuan was released Friday on $50,000 bond, authorities said.
"The guilt and sorrow I feel now, I won't feel after it happens," said one of the videos Yuan e-mailed from Queens to fan club servers in New Jersey.
"After it happens I'll feel no regret whatsoever.

Marion Cotillard is the latest celebrity who has to deal with a dangerously-obsessed fan. A New York woman named Teresa Yuan, who is believed in her 30s, has posted on a fan website a video which indicates that she wants to kill the actress.
"The guilt and sorrow I feel now, I won't feel after it happens. After it happens, I'll feel no regrets whatsoever... that's apparently how it feels to be a killer, to be a murderer," Yuan said in the video sent on July 23. The stalker also said in a series of emails that she knew Cotillard's whereabouts and would meet her.
The site's administrator first alerted the FBI in April of alarming emails and videos sent by Yuan. Agent Bradford Price wrote in a complaint filed in Brooklyn Federal Court that Yuan growled and hissed to her iPhone camera after saying in another video, "I can be...

"Can I get a 'pop pop'?" TV Guide Magazine's L.A. Bureau Chief Michael Schneider, who moderated the Community panel, asked a crowd of 2,000 fans before the cast hit the stage at Comic-Con. The audience channeled their inner Magnitude and obliged enthusiastically, setting the tone of fan love for the rest of the hour-long session. The entire cast — minus Alison Brie, who was unavailable due to a filming conflict — ran on stage to deafening cheers, with the loudest being reserved for Donald Glover and Joel McHale. But the surprise cast member of the hour was Annie's Boobs, Greendale's resident monkey, who delivered the Community Season 2 DVD to creator Dan Harmon. "I don't know what she's doing, but I think she's pooping," said Harmon after the skit....

Moderated by TV Guide Magazine's L.A. Bureau Chief Michael Schneider, the Shameless leg of the panel teetered on Nsfw, as Emmy Rossum and William H. Rossum defended the show's copious nudity. "It's nothing but a body!" she said, going on to claim that she feels she has exposed more emotionally playing devoted daughter Fiona than she has physically.

Terra Nova Executive Producers Brannon Braga and Rene Echevarria are reporting “positive feedback” for the eco-drama, ahead of its upcoming premiere.
As part of its continuing pre-San Diego Comic-Con coverage, The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Braga and Echevarria, who briefly address the expectations created by the delays that have hit the show:
THR: After all the delays with Terra Nova, do you feel added pressure to deliver?
Braga: Yeah, you feel the pressure all the way. The delays were all for very good reasons. It’s a pretty big show; I think when people see it, they’ll realize what an epic it is. I’m feeling a little less pressure only because it’s coming together very well. It’s coming together pretty well. In that regard, as we approach Comic-Con and the September premiere, we’re getting positive feedback, and a little bit of the pressure is going away.

The cast and crew of AMC's hit series The Walking Dead discussed which story lines from the comics they would like to tell in the TV show during Friday's PaleyFest2011 panel, moderated by TV Guide Magazine's Michael Schneider. 10. Shane Lives: Jon Bernthal, who plays Rick's partner, Shane, has already outlived his comic book counterpart, who was killed off in Issue 6. This is great news for Bernthal, who can't wait to see what comes next. "There's a lot more that they can squeeze of this character," he said. "I'm relieved. I'm glad I still have a job." 9. In their excellent year-ahead discussion on Kcrw's The Business, host Kim Masters and guests John Horn (the Lat) and Michael Schneider (Variety) agreed that 2011 marks a watershed year in the transition from traditional to digital viewing choices. They think the shift will come faster for movies than television. "The studios are burning along with huge overhead and a lot of movies that aren't working," says Masters, a confessed Luddite who defends theater-going. "This year could be the year the movie theaters become the record store," argues Horn, who says the hopelessly old-fashioned movie industry is driven by economics. "The revolution won't be televised this year," says Schneider, while admitting that Netflix and Google TV are enough to give network executives serious anxiety. "There hasn't ...

While Variety TV editor MIchael Schneider was able to resist the approaches of The Hollywood Reporter, he could not say no to TV Guide, which he collected in his room when he was a kid. He's going there as their new La Bureau Chief. Thus Variety loses another valuable player. Luckily, deputy editor Cynthia Littleton, who is running the daily with Brian Cochrane under editor Tim Gray, knows TV and will carry on. And ace TV columnist/critic Brian Lowry is still on board. But Schneider is a huge loss. The paper just bolstered their film department (which lost Michael Fleming, Tatiana Siegel and Pamela McClintock in the past year) with The Wrap's Josh Dickey, who started this week. Now they'll have to do something about TV as well.

Variety’s Michael Schneider is reporting that ABC is currently developing a reboot to hit Canadian drama Being Erica with former Eastwick scribe Maggie Friedman. While the move may draw some criticism, as the show actually airs on American television (ABC sister channel SOAPNet), remakes/reboots/adaptations seem to be the name of the game for ABC this development season. The network currently has True Lies, The Spellman Files, Romeo & Juliet, Patient Zero, Mi-5, The Incredible Hulk, Good Christian Bitches, Charlie’s Angels, and Courtroom 302 at various stages of development with several expected to make it to series.
As much as the thought of yet another reboot/remake makes my skin crawl, especially since the movie industry is going through a similar holding pattern, I have to say that ABC could’ve picked a much worse source material than Being Erica. The drama is unique in that it has sci-fi elements,...

Welcome to your Wednesday morning television briefing. While Fox and 20th Century Fox Television won't comment, Variety's Michael Schneider is reporting that it appears that Day Eight of 24 will be the series' last. A final decision on the fate of the Kiefer Sutherland-led serialized drama will be made in the next day or so but it's not looking as though 24 will continue for a ninth season, at least at Fox. "The studio is said to be considering shopping 24 to other nets -- but given the thriller's age and pricetag, it's believed interest from other outlets will be limited," writes Schneider. "Yet even as the bell tolls for 24 in primetime, the franchise is far from dead. Sutherland and the 24 team have been keen on adapting the show as a feature film, and have made major strides in recent months toward making that long-term goal a reality." (Variety) In quite possibly...

Last week we told you that 'Better Off Ted's' Andrea Anders was joining the cast of Matthew Perry's new show 'Mr. Sunshine.' That was one minor sign that the cast of the ABC sitcom was looking for other work because the show was going to be canceled. Now here's the ultimate proof that the show is probably not coming back in the fall: no more Ted!
Jay Harrington, who plays Ted, has grabbed the lead in a new NBC sitcom pilot called 'Nathan vs. Nurture,' according to Variety. As Michael Schneider points out, when the star of a show gets another show, that's a good sign the other show isn't coming back. Harrington will play a heart surgeon who not only finds out who his biological are, he also finds out that he has several siblings (and I'm going to guess that these siblings are going...

Welcome to your Tuesday morning television briefing. Variety's Michael Schneider is reporting that 20th Century Fox Television and the studio's feature film division are working on adapting Fox's long-running drama series 24 for the big screen. The studio has hired Billy Ray (State of Play) to write a screenplay for the feature version of 24, which would see Jack Bauer jump across the pond to thwart a plot in Europe. Film would be executive produced by Kiefer Sutherland, Howard Gordon, Brian Grazer, Robert Cochran, and Joel Surnow. "Insiders cautioned that a 24 feature is still very much in the preliminary stages," writes Schneider. "There are a number of factors influencing how quickly it moves ahead, including the fate of the TV show." That fate is still to be determined, though it's thought very likely that Day Eight will be the final season of 24. (Variety, Entertainment Weekly's Hollywood Insider) Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello is...

Welcome to your Thursday morning television briefing. Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello is reporting that Jennifer Morrison will return to Fox medical drama House later this season. While the nature and timing of Cameron's return are unknown, Ausiello quotes an unnamed House insider who said, "You will see Cameron again on House before the end of the season." (Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello Files) Rumors are swirling that Conan O'Brien could be beating a path to Fox to launch a latenight franchise to rival The Tonight Show but it's not exactly a smooth ride. "There are still a slew of obstacles standing in his way at Fox, including those same network affiliates. And several Fox insiders wonder whether it would even be possible to launch a latenight Conan O'Brien franchise anytime soon," writes Variety's Michael Schneider. "Still, once O'Brien manages to settle out of his NBC contract -- and that's the route he...

Welcome to your Monday morning television briefing. Variety's Michael Schneider takes a look at how ABC executives are attempting to stake out a strategy for the future of Lost, which will wrap up its run in May... but might be sticking around via ancillary products and potential sequels. "We've been talking about this for a couple of years now," ABC marketing exec VP Mike Benson told Schneider. "We want to keep it alive but make sure we maintain the integrity of the franchise. We're not about milking this thing for all that it is right now; it's important to see this live for years to come... What Lost becomes after it ends its run is up in the air. It really depends on who comes in to interpret it next." But whatever that future might hold, whether it be novels and comicbooks or indeed a spinoff series down the line,...

We just discovered that TV One has acquired the new sitcom titled Love That Girl, which is a four-episode sitcom from comedian and actor Martin Lawrence and scribe Bentley Kyle Evans.
Evans created the sitcom, which stars The Fresh Prince of Bel Air alum Tatyana Ali. "Girl" will air as a special three-night event on TV One, from Tuesday, Jan. 19, through Thursday, Jan. 21, at 9 p.m. Back-to-back episodes will air each night (including repeats).
Ali stars as a divorcee who moves back to Southern California to work with her father (Phil Morris) in the real estate business. Alphonso McAuley co-stars as her unemployed brother, while Kendyl Joi plays her best friend.
In an unusual setup, Evans (Martin, The Jamie Foxx Show) produced the sitcom without the involvement of a studio, and called in favors -- including his Martin star, Lawrence -- to make the show happen.

Welcome to your Tuesday morning television briefing. Elizabeth Banks (Modern Family) is heading to NBC's 30 Rock next, where she will recur in "at least four episodes," according to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello. Banks will reportedly play a love interest for Alec Baldwin's Jack Donaghy, which begs the question of just how this will affect Julianne Moore's multiple-episode story arc this season. Is there a love triangle brewing for Jack? (Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello Files) Whedonverse alum Tim Minear has signed a new two-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television, where he has been based as a writer-producer for the last twelve years. Under the terms of the deal, Minear will develop new projects for the studio as well as come aboard FX dramedy Terriers as an executive producer, alongside Shawn Ryan and Ted Griffin. Minear's attachment allows Ryan to focus on Fox's Lie to Me and new development.

• Michael Schneider reports that the Weinstein Co. is working with Disney on an ambitious multi-platform promotion plan for "Nine." As Michael details, "Under the arrangement, a themed dance number on the Nov. 17 episode of 'Dancing with the Stars' will be set to the 'Nine' song 'Be Italian.' Dancers will also wear outfits from the movie. Meanwhile, throughout the month of December, 'Nine' will be written into episodes of 'All My Children,' 'One Life to Live' and 'General Hospital.' Also, on Nov. 22, a two-minute 'Nine' trailer will run simultaneously "road-block" style on Lifetime, ABC Family, SoapNet, A&E and Bio. Welcome to your Friday morning television briefing. The Wire's Idris Elba (last seen on the small screen in a multiple-episode story arc on NBC's The Office) has landed the lead in new BBC One crime thriller Luther, where he will play John Luther, a "near-genius murder detective whose brilliant mind can’t always save him from the dangerous violence of his passions." Series, which has been commissioned for six episodes, is written by Neil Cross (Spooks) and each episode will invert the familiar tropes of crime drama on its head: the murderer will be revealed at the beginning of each episode and the focus will be the dynamic between Luther and his perpetrator, who aren't quite so different from one another. "Luther is a challenging and exciting character because he’s so complex," said Elba. "While he’s capable of great kindness and loyalty, sometimes he steps over the...

Welcome to your Monday morning television briefing. It seems like the stars are finally aligning. Producers on Fox's Bones are in talks with Zooey Deschanel to guest star on the procedural crime drama in December as the cousin of real-life sister Emily Deschanel's Brennan, according to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello. "We’ve been looking for an opportunity to get the Deschanel girls together," said Bones creator/executive producer Hart Hanson, "but Zooey’s rockin’ career kept getting in the way... We alluded to [her] having a cousin in Minnesota two seasons ago. I’d very much like to meet her in the Christmas episode." (Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello Files) As previously reported on this site, 20th Century Fox Television is teaming up with Columbia Records on a series of soundtracks for Fox's upcoming series Glee. The first release, "Glee: The Music, Volume 1," will contain seventeen tracks from the series' first...

Welcome to your Thursday morning television briefing. NBC has announced that it is delaying the second season launch of Southland by a month. The Warner Bros. Television-produced series, which premiered last spring, was slated to launch its sophomore season on Friday, September 25th but will now instead debut on Friday, October 23rd. The reason behind the late change? According to Variety's Michael Schneider, "insiders said the Peacock hopes to use the extra month to further promote the show, which they worried was getting lost in the fall marketing shuffle." Southland was meant to launch on the same evening as Medium and Dollhouse. (Variety) Chuck co-creator Josh Schwartz and Chuck producer Matt Miller will write an untitled multi-camera comedy pilot script for CBS about a twenty-something couple who have just gotten married and return home after their honeymoon and must learn how to navigate life together. (The premise was inspired...

Welcome to your Tuesday morning television briefing. TVGuide.com talks to Lost's Titus Welliver, who played the mysterious man in black seen in the fifth season finale (that many of us are referring to as Esau). "The way that I interpreted it, on a biblical level, is that it's a sort of Cain-and-Abel scenario," said Welliver of the showdown between Jacob and his character. "So by destroying Jacob, what does that prove — that [the man in black] can ultimately have power over the island? Do the castaways become solely his playthings? And why was it so important that he find the loophole to be able to kill Jacob? That moved me in the direction of thinking that if he needs this loophole, there's a greater power than the two of them that they're answering to." (TVGuide.com) FX has ordered six episodes of animated comedy Archer (working title), about the eccentric employees of an international spy agency,...
