This Star Trek: Lower Decks article contains spoilers.
Backed into a corner by members of the USS Cerritos and affected by the same overwhelming emotions that bombard everyone else, the three Betazoid women pull out their lipsticks. Although they initially seemed like nothing more than party girls abusing their diplomatic privilege, the Betazoids extend their lipsticks into batons and leap into action, revealing themselves to be members of their planet’s secret intelligence corp. And thus, Star Trek: Lower Decks give us the first (canonical) look at the Betazed military.
The question of Betazed’s military power has been lingering since the portrayal of the Dominion War in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. That series seeded the power of the Dominion early on and slowly established the Gamma Quadrant conquerors as a real threat. But it wasn’t until the Dominion, and their Cardassian collaborators, conquered Betazed that the Federation truly took the threat seriously.

One trend in the Oscar race this year seems to be films that are about recent events. This, of course, is not a new fad in cinema as hot-button topics have always lent themselves to being a solid jumping-off point for storytelling on the big screen. A few of the films grabbing attention this time around — Sully and Patriots Day for best picture as well as a few others from various categories — tackle some of the biggest recent events and narratives in recent memory.
Sully, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Tom Hanks, tells the story of Chesley Sullenberger and the Miracle on the Hudson involving Us Airways Flight 1549 from January 15, 2009. This real-life event centers around a flight from New York City’s Laguardia Airport to Charlotte Douglas International Airport was forced to land in the...

"I want to thank my family, girlfriend, friends and fans for being so supportive of me after the incident on Dancing with the Stars Monday night," Lochte, 32, wrote, referencing the incident in which two male protesters wearing anti-Lochte T-shirts charged the ballroom floor after the Olympian made his DWTS debut. Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte has been spotted on U.S. soil after a Brazilian judge requested the athlete turn over his passport amid reports that he lied about being held at gunpoint during a night out in Rio while competing at the 2016 Games. The 32-year-old 12-time Olympian was seen walking through Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina with Playboy Playmate Kayla Rae Reid around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, according to an eyewitness. Lochte seemed "relaxed" and was wearing tennis shoes and track pants. "They were just talking normally, not laughing, but just normal," Janie Sircey, 23, tells People. "They didn't look worried.

Some might call this situation an overreaction. We're calling this one justified, because we've been stuck in an airport with a delayed flight surrounded by mouth breathers with some airline official calling us "miss" for the 78th time and all we want to do is scream and run around while knocking other people's luggage over. We've all been there, right? We've all been so angry at an airline that we were thisclose to completely losing it. This guy just actually lost it. A Us Airways flight to Jamaica airline passenger reportedly stripped completely naked right in the middle of Charlotte Douglas International Airport Wednesday morning. According to eyewitnesses, the man was upset about a...

After ditching Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man, actor Campbell Scott (who played Richard Parker) is getting behind the camera again to adapt Joan Didion's 1977 novel, A Book of Common Prayer. And following his journey to TV a few years ago with "Six Degrees," the director is using some TV talent to bring the project to life as Variety reports "Mad Men" and Drive star Christina Hendricks will star in the story of an American woman who arrives in a fictional Central American country on the verge of revolution and imagines it is the place where she will be reunited with her fugitive 19-year-old daughter. However, the official book description paints a slightly different picture: A Book of Common Prayer' is the story of two American women in the derelict Central American nation of Boca Grande. Grace Strasser-Mendana controls much of the country's wealth and knows virtually all of...

Christina Hendricks will star in Campbell Scott's film adaptation of Joan Didion's novel A Book of Common Prayer. According to Variety, Hendricks has signed on to play Charlotte Douglas, an American woman who finds herself in the fictional Central American country Boca Grande, hoping to find her 19-year-old political revolutionary daughter. Prayer does not really scream out for a movie version — so much of it relies on description and narration, which tend not to translate well — but Joan from Mad Men doing Joan Didion is pretty damn promising.

• 21 Grams director Alejandro González Iñárritu is trying his hand at comedy, and he’s enlisted the help of a stellar cast, including Emma Stone, Zach Galifianakis, Michael Keaton, and Naomi Watts (don’t forget I Heart Huckabees!) to star in his upcoming feature Birdman. The film will follow a once-great actor best known for portraying a superhero (a little close to home for Keaton), who is trying to relaunch his career with a Broadway play. It will apparently take place over three days in one location. Stone will play Keaton’s troubled daughter, Galifianakis will be the play’s producer,...

Christina Hendricks is set to headline a Campbell Scott-directed adaptation of Joan Didion's A Book of Common Prayer , Variety reports. The 1977 novel is officially described as follows: "A Book of Common Prayer" is the story of two American women in the derelict Central American nation of Boca Grande. Grace Strasser-Mendana controls much of the country's wealth and knows virtually all of its secrets; Charlotte Douglas knows far too little. "Immaculate of history, innocent of politics," she has come to Boca Grande vaguely and vainly hoping to be reunited with her fugitive daughter. As imagined by Didion, her fate is at once utterly particular and fearfully emblematic of an age of conscienceless authority and unfathomable violence. In addition to her...

Bam Margera may be able to get away with anything on Jackass, but this weekend, he learned his antics don't always fly — literally — in the real world. Bam tells TMZ he wasn't drunk at the time, claiming the stink of alcohol was "left over" from the previous evening's festivities. [TMZ]
