The first Extraction movie appeared in 2020. The movie was directed by Sam Hargraves and starred Chris Hemsworth; it was based on an earlier screenplay for a movie titled Ciudad, which was written by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, and Anthony Russo. The same team returned in 2023 when a sequel, Extraction 2, was released by Netflix. Both of these action movies were quite well-received and they have become fan favorites, which is why fans have been demanding a third movie, and we can now confirm that a third movie is indeed on the way, although things are still being figured out.

A funny thing happened during our worldwide lockdown in 2020. With theaters shuttered, our immediate movie-going futures looking bleak and escapist entertainment becoming a therapeutic necessity, along came the rise of The Streaming Service Blockbuster — most notably “Extraction.” Stuntman-turned-director Sam Hargrave’s muscular albeit convoluted actioner, centered on a mercenary sent to rescue the kidnapped son of a crime lord, was handed a captive audience. All the folks at home made it a worldwide sensation for Netflix, and it continues to tear up the charts as their seventh most popular film ever.
Three years later and armed with a far better, bloody and bruising quest for the laconic hero, Hargrave, star Chris Hemsworth and screenwriter Joe Russo return to the burgeoning franchise with “Extraction 2”. The filmmakers’ renewed vigor is our reward as, similar to its unfussy title, this sequel deals in clean-lined action and suspense, removing much of the excessive...

Say what you will about 2023, but at the very least, it has been generously scratching a cinematic itch: a craving for the type of kinetic, nimble action cinema (one blessedly not superhero-driven) that used to be in the audiences’ regular moviegoing diet back in the 1990s.
Indeed, amid the miraculous “John Wick 4,” the surprisingly deep “Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant,” the deliriously fun and high-concept “Plane” and even the unapologetically feminist indie “Polite Society,” the year’s first half has treated us to a delectable buffet of polished chase sequences, high-wire escapes and punchy fist fights. So why not make room for one more before Tom Cruise arrives on the scene with “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” and flies off a cliff on a motorcycle?

The official trailer for Extraction 2 has Chris Hemsworth returning from near death as black ops mercenary Tyler Rake in another brutal display of power when he is personally requested for a rescue mission.
As is explained in the high-octane footage (below), Rake was clinically dead nine months ago. But he fought his way back and now, he just has to find out why.
Rake’s deadly mission follows his surviving the events of the original film and in the sequel aiming to rescue the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from prison against impossible odds. Hemsworth continues such death-defying stunts in the nonstop, brutal and bloody Extraction 2 trailer.
The original Extraction thriller saw the Australian mercenary mourn the death of his son while rescuing the kidnapped son of an imprisoned Indian drug kingpin. Rake then seemingly died in the original Extraction, which hit Netflix in 2020, but a...

Action is back, baby! While John Wick: Chapter 4 is blasting through the box office with a Dragon’s Breath shotgun, Chris Hemsworth also returns with his own fight and stunt spectacular with the Netflix sequel, Extraction 2. In the original, we are introduced to Tyler Rake, a mercenary who had taken on the assignment of seeking and rescuing the kidnapped son of a prisoned, international crime lord. Rich, ArrowCar, Arrow Cave, kid sidekick, you get the picture. He had reasonable success back in the day but in more modern times he never really rose above second banana status, until Denny O’Neil and then Mike Grell gave him a more mature makeover and he really shone. Even so, popularity boosts have usually been temporary, and he always felt...

First, about that “others” in the post title: Marguerite Sauvage drew one of the six issues collected here, Ande Parks inked the pages set on Meta, Kelly Fitzpatrick colored all of it, and several other artists contributed to the back-up stories. Including all of them would make it look like a law firm.
But Cecil Castellucci wrote all of it and Marley Zarcone drew all but the first issue in Shade the Changing Girl, Vol. 2: Little Runaway , so it’s reasonably fair to attribute it to the two of them. And it is, as you might guess, the immediate sequel to Vol. 1: Earth Girl Made Easy , by the same team, and concludes the initial arc of this comic.
I thought this Shade was going to be focused on the alien-in-high-school thing, but I was wrong: the first issue here blows that up to send Loma Shade off on her own journey across America,...

Reaction around the virtual office water cooler mid-pandemic when DC’s winter crossover, Endless Winter, was announced was guarded excitement, along with the occasional wry “Oh you mean March?” Turns out, it wasn’t that far off, according to co-writer Ron Marz.
“The fact that we’re doing this [online] instead of in person at the Javitz Center is part of it,” he said at DC’s Endless Winter panel at New York Comic Con replacement Metaverse. “We’re all feeling a sense of isolation.”
Endless Winter is a nine part crossover that runs through two bookend issues, three specials, and the regular issues of Flash, Aquaman, and Justice League in December. Marz (Green Lantern) and Andy Lanning (Legion Lost) are co-writing, with art on each chapter from Marco Santucci (Shazam) along with another artist on each individual book.

ReviewThe single-shot sequence that continues for almost 12 minutes is the best part of the film.Saraswati DatarIf you are planning to watch Extraction, now streaming on Netflix, hoping to see a coming of age tale, or a story of redemption and second chances, you may be disappointed. Directed by Marvel Cinematic Universe action director and stunt coordinator Sam Hargrave, Extraction is an extremely well shot action film that thrills but appeals to no other deeper emotions. The screenplay by Joe Russo is based on an original graphic novel written by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, and illustrated by Fernando Leon Gonzalez. Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) is a mercenary for hire based in Australia. He comes with a conveniently tragic backstory; dead son estranged wife, basically nothing to lose and ready to bear the white man’s burden of rescuing brown man, or in this case boy. Wonder Woman has had quite the renaissance in recent years, and as one of the Big Three (with Superman and Batman) it is thoroughly deserved. You don’t get continually published since 1941 unless you have something that clicks with readers after all. She first appeared in All-Star Comics #8 in 1941, graduated to her own book with Sensation Comics #1 in 1942, and has never looked back since. She has gone through several’ fad’ phases down the years, such as the depowered white jump suit era (yikes), and has sometimes struggled with getting enough readers to pick up her book. Historically, though, having a female character they are trying to aim at girls but written by middle aged men, doesn’t really work, and also ends up alienating the male audience. Most self respecting teenage boys back in the day wouldn’t pick up...

In comparison to last issue of Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, Ultimate Marvel Team-Up #2-3 fits much more seamlessly with its parent title, Ultimate Spider-Man. It opens an extended opening scene set inside the Daily Bugle where editors J. Of course, it’s the Hulk, and the rest of the story isn’t concerned with the possibly fascinating topic journalism in the Ultimate Marvel Universe, but big splash pages, smashing, and Spider-Man coming to grips with fighting an unbeatable foe. With the highly anticipated Marvel sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier not coming out for another eight months or so, one had to wonder if brotherly co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo were going to stay committed to adapting their upcoming Oni Press graphic novel Ciudad, which was announced well over a year ago. As it turns out, they are and they aren.t, as The Hollywood Reporter reports Sierra Pictures will be financing and producing the film with Closed on Mondays Entertainment. But the brothers Russo will no longer be helming the project as was once planned, and filming duties have gone to John Pogue, whose only directing credit so far has been the straight-to-nowhere sequel Quarantine 2: Terminal, though he has another one in the works. This seems like a pretty strange decision to me. Ciudad was written by Joe and Anthony along with Ande Parks and Fernando Leon,...

The absence of any trailers and the removal of the film from its April 13 slot on the calendar suggested production was not going well. There was subsequent talk of Stallone (pictured) stepping in to oversee a new final cut and the release being moved to November.

This summer the wrestler-turned-actor will bring Roadblock to life in G.I. Pop quiz: you're two brothers who have made a name for yourselves directing off-beat comedies (like "You, Me and Dupree," "Community," "Happy Endings" and even some old-school "Arrested Development" episodes), but now you want to make an action thriller. How do you make the leap?
Sign one of the biggest action stars on the planet for your lead role. (This isn't rocket science, people.)
And that's exactly what Joe and Anthony Russo have done by nabbing Dwayne Johnson to star in "Ciudad" (Spanish, for city, fyi). The flick is based on the upcoming (ie: not yet released) graphic novel penned by the brothers and their writing partner Ande Parks, which follows a black market mercenary who is hired by a Brazilian drug lord to rescue his kidnapped daughter. We can only assume Johnson will play the mercenary in question.

On a long list of cinema’s best lugheads, or muscle-bound action stars as they would prefer to be called, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would probably fall somewhere in the middle. While never really opening a movie outside of Disney’s family film “The Game Plan” on his own, Johnson has recently fallen back on mega-grossing blockbusters like “Fast Five,” “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,” and the upcoming “G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation.” In this writer’s opinion, he’s not without talent, showcasing an admirable comedic timing and acting prowess well above what you’d expect from a guy who started his career getting oiled up for WWE wrestling matches.
Deadline is now reporting that Johnson has signed on for a film that’s once again within his comfort zone of the action genre, with the adaptation of an upcoming Oni Press graphic novel entitled “Ciudad.” Oni Press also published the “Scott Pilgrim” books,...
