When the character Riri Williams (played by Dominique Thorne) made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut back in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the idea was that we’d be seeing the character again the following year in her own Disney+ show Ironheart… but 2023 came and went without Ironheart, and the show still doesn’t have an official premiere date. This has caused some fans to speculate that Marvel and Disney+ might have decided to scrap Ironheart, along with the series Wonder Man, which had Yahya Abdul-Mateen II taking on the role of the title character, who is also known as Simon Williams and hasn’t been seen in the MCU yet. But no, Ironheart and Wonder Man are not being scrapped, and in a new interview with Agents of Fandom, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation Brad Winderbaum described the shows as spectacular, amazing, and different.

There has been a lot of fan speculation about Marvel Comics’ extra-dimensional demon character Mephisto showing up in a Marvel Cinematic Universe project. Many fans were sure Mephisto’s demonic mug was going to show up in WandaVision at some point… but that didn’t happen, so fans started wondering if he’ll be in the WandaVision spin-off Agatha: Coven of Chaos. It remains to be seen if that’s going to happen, but it sounds like we will see Mephisto in the Ironheart series. And it’s RUMORed that while we’ll primarily be seeing Mephisto in human form, there will be “glimpses” of his true demonic form.
Insider @CanWeGetToast claims (as reported by SuperHeroHype), “Mephisto will mostly be seen in his human form in Ironheart, while only giving Glimpses of his true form. Mephisto has The Hood stealing tech for him to build an advanced Bio-Suit in Ironheart.

Veteran Canadian-American voice actress Cree Summer has joined the cast of Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series Ironheart, sources tell Deadline. A rep for Marvel declined comment.
As Deadline reported earlier this month, Sacha Baron Cohen also has been tipped for a role in the series. Since our story ran, there has been further proof that Baron Cohen has joined the MCU, something Marvel and his reps have refused to comment on. I hear he may appear later in Ironheart’s run, with Episodes 5-6 considered likely. In addition to in-person scenes, rumor is that there have been scans for CGI effects, which would indicate a superhero alter ego for Baron Cohen’s character. He is believed to be playing a comic book villain, probably Mephisto.

Speculation has been growing that Sacha Baron Cohen has entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a role in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ series Ironheart as a comic book villain.

Like with any major Marvel characters, word is that Cohen would appear in other projects. America is full of inequalities, and most of them have been amplified since Covid-19 arrived. Oxfam reports that 99 percent of the world’s income fell in 2020, while the Earth’s 10 richest men saw their fortunes more than double. Underpaid essential workers toiled while white collar workers bought dumb shit online and worked at home in sweatpants, and 70 (70! It’s a lot!) congresspeople were caught dumping stocks before the rest of America really learned how bad Covid was about to get. It’s a fucked up system, and sometimes, it seems like there’s really no legit way out of it.
All of that is certainly considered in “Sprung,” the new Amazon Freevee series from “Yes, Dear,” “My Name Is Earl,” and “Raising Hope” creator Greg Garcia. The show’s 10 episodes follow three ex-cons released early because of Covid, who are promptly (and unceremoniously) dropped into society. Jack (Garret Dillahunt) spent...

In the sixth episode of Greg Garcia’s new Freevee comedy Sprung, two characters, while seemingly stealing a truck of valuable art, have a conversation about the Jimmy Buffett musical Escape to Margaritaville. The episode ends with the playing of a full song from said musical; it’s the sort of creative choice that would seem utterly random if you didn’t know that Garcia co-wrote Escape to Margaritaville.
Garcia wrote and directed every episode of Sprung and Garcia is the Rosetta Stone through which almost every second of Sprung can be understood or interpreted. Trying to figure out where you recognize a random supporting actor from? Chances are good that you remember them from a Garcia show. Scratching your head about why a comic cadence, pop-culture reference or piece of kitschy production design feels familiar? Odds are that it’s similar to something from a Garcia show.

No one gets out of jail free in Greg Garcia’s quirky, heartfelt comedy Sprung, about underdog inmates granted early release from a state co-ed prison at the pandemic’s onset. Bonus: It reunites Hope leads Garret Dillahunt and Martha Plimpton. Dillahunt plays smart, earnest Jack, jailed 26 years on a trumped-up drug charge and now bunking with dim-but-loyal Rooster (Phillip Garcia) at the not-so-big house of the guy’s daft criminal mom Barb (Plimpton). Another roomie: Jack’s would-be lockup girlfriend Gloria (Shakira Barrera). Barb demands they join her crime family, but Jack balks. “He makes a deal that he’ll help if they rob people doing bad things during the pandemic,” says Dillahunt. Their main target: an insider stock trader and congresswoman (Kate Walsh). Says Greg Garcia, “They’ve all been kicked aside by society. They slowly become a family — and they’re going after ‘the man.’” Sprung, Series Premiere,...

"We're good at what we do... because we use alternative methods of recovery." Vertical Ent has released an official trailer for an indie crime thriller titled Collection, the latest feature made by indie writer / director Marianna Palka. Recently known for her role on the Emmy winning & SAG nominated Netflix series Glow, she previously directed Egg (2018), starring Christina Hendricks and Anna Camp, which first premiered at Tribeca to rave reviews. This is her seventh film since her premiere film, Good Dick. Collection tells of a grieving father who grapples with the seedy, manipulative world of high stakes debt collection while also struggling to shed the tragedies of his past. He'll find himself pitted against his best friend, his prodigy and his love. Collection stars Alex Pettyfer, Mike Vogel, Breeda Wool, Willam Belli, Shakira Barrera, Joseph Julian Soria, and Paige Howard. This looks as dull and forgettable as the title, not much to see.

Fans of Netflix’s “Glow” were dealt a wallop of a disappointment last month when the planned fourth and final season of the popular comedy series about women’s professional wrestling was axed due to the pandemic. Cast member Marc Maron shortly thereafter stoked fans’ excitement when he suggested that the best way to wrap the series would be a two-hour movie to give the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling one more shot in the ring. Alison Brie, according to a recent discussion as part of The Playlist’s “The Fourth Wall” podcast, shares that sentiment, but is also pessimistic about the return.
“I certainly think a [‘Glow’] movie could tie everything up,” said Brie. “Our creators, Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, are incredible writers. And they’re so devoted to these characters that they created. I think a movie would be a great way to wrap it up. I’m...

The ladies of Glow revealed this week that in addition to fighting as wrestlers onscreen, they were fighting for better representation behind the scenes as well. Star Sunita Mani posted a letter that she and fellow actresses of color sent to Netflix over the summer, asking the streaming platform to improve their experiences on the show and make them feel less "disempowered." Mani explained on Instagram that the stars of color in the cast had a "raw and personal coming-together" in June to talk about how Glow reckons with race and how to "hold my show accountable." Updated with comments from all cast members: The cancellation of Glow is a big loss when it comes to the representation of women on TV. Sydelle Noel, Sunita Mani, Britney Young, Shakira Barrera, Kia Stevens and Ellen Wong recently posted a letter on Instagram addressing the lack of authentic inclusion in the series. They sent the letter to the show producers and creators earlier this year during the show’s hiatus before the cancellation.
Noel, Mani, Young, Barrera, Stevens and Wong all posted personal statements in regards to the show’s lack of authenticity and then posted a unifying letter that, before Glow‘s cancelation, demanded change when it came to the portrayal of women of color.
“We are writing to you today to share some feelings that have been suppressed in all of us for a long time,” the letter starts. “As the principal women of color on a...

Several cast members on Netflix’s now-cancelled series “Glow” have shared a letter they sent to producers asking for changes to be made ahead of the fourth season, such as amplifying the voices of their characters of color and diversifying the show’s all-white writers room.
Sunita Mani, Ellen Wong, Sydelle Noel, Britney Young, Shakira Barrera and Kia Stevens wrote to producers in June after the country’s Black Lives Matter protests and discussions of racial inequality sparked their own revealing conversation about the show not living up to its own standards. Sunita Mani, who portrayed Arthie Premkumar on Netflix’s recently canceled “Glow” comedy series, revealed a letter she and five other cast members sent to Netflix and the show’s producers earlier in the year.
