Hulu’s cult drama The Path is back for Season 2, and although Wednesday’s two-part premiere cleared up some of the lingering mysteries from last season… it gave us a whole bunch of new ones to puzzle over.
What really went down between Eddie and Dr. Steven Meyer in Peru? Have Eddie and Sarah both moved onto new romantic partners following their separation? Is Cal going to sabotage the whole movement with his rash actions? If he doesn’t,...

Welcome back to a special ongoing look at Warner Bros. and how it's handled its DC Comics properties. It's going to be a weekly, ongoing miniseries here at Lrm.
It's suggested that you read the previous entries in the series, as they all build upon one another:
Column #1
Column #2
Column #3
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times."
- Charles Dickens, "A Tale of Two Cities"
In 2012, Warner Bros. found itself in a uniquely Dickensian situation. On the one hand, The Dark Knight Rises had just concluded the finest series of films based on their DC property since in 1989’s Batman. They were riding high, enjoying the glow of Christopher Nolan’s work in making high-minded, mature, and often fascinating movies out of comic book characters, while also enjoying the love of fans, critics, and paying customers alike. Yet on the other hand, there’s the...

Comic Book Reviews: DC Comics Round Up Week 08-10-2016
Scott Snyder is back on Batman in an "all –star" way! (see what I did there?) as he teams up with two fantastic artist in Veteran John Romita Jr. and upcoming superstar Declan Shalvey. How does it hold up to his previous Batman New 52 run? Well read on to see! Also we get the return of the deadliest man in the world -- Deathstroke -- which was penned by the super talented Christopher Priest.
Action Comics #961
Story: Dan Jurgens Art: Stephen Segovia, Art Thibert
Review: Typically I don’t like it when a series keeps changing artist issue to issue, but honestly each illustrator that’s jumped on to Action Comics with Dan Jurgens has been top notch! I’m a huge fan of Tyler Kirkham and Patrick Bircher, and equally a huge fan of Stephen Segovia! And, to be fair,...

“I think like any genre, the movies have to be good and you have to keep the audience engaged. One of the things that we’re doing when we’re bringing together the DC Justice League Universe is we’re creating not only stories that work for the individual film but they have some resonance to the other films that we’re doing. And I’m hoping that what’s also gonna keep the interest very keen is we’re telling hopefully compelling stories. I mean, one of the great things about dealing with superheroes in general, at least from our standpoint, is they’re both inspirational and aspirational characters, so you’re hoping that the audience is gonna want to be like some of them but you’re also hoping that the audience can relate to some of them, that if we make their stories compelling and relatable, interesting and emotional,...

Marvel may have crafted their own wide-spanning cinematic universe, but DC and Warner Bros will strike back next year with the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Zack Snyder's follow-up to Man of Steel.
Digital Spy rounds up everything you need to know on the superhero epic below...
Batman will be older and more grizzled...
Hollywood has traditionally cast a thirtysomething as the Caped Crusader, but Ben Affleck is a little more experienced than those who've come before. The idea of bringing in an older Bruce Wayne should create an interesting dynamic between Batman and the younger Superman (a returning Henry Cavill), which is something Snyder has discussed when addressing Affleck's casting.
"Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's Superman," he commented. "He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the...

Gotham, The Flash, Arrow... Why do the current crop of geek TV shows have such trouble creating a central romance fans want to root for?
Contains spoilers for The Flash, Arrow, Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Supernatural, Gotham and Smallville.
At the moment, a fair amount of geek TV shows seem to be producing particularly poor depictions of love and romance. The problem is only confounded by the fact that, with fandom as vocal as it is nowadays, any negative element of a show is sure to be rigorously reanalysed. As a result, love interests come into a lot of criticism from the online community.
In an attempt to find a fix, we had look through some of our favourite shows to deduce which ones get it right, and which struggle horribly. Hopefully, we can uncover the secret to getting romantic writing right in nerdy TV…

Two quite juicy rumors regarding major DC film projects have gone online today over at Latino Review.
First up, they say they can confirm that "Argo" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" scribe Chris Terrio is writing the script. They also have heard details about who may be the villain:
"Brainiac is going to be the bad guy in Justice League. The set-up of it is cool. Remember the Kryptonian beacon in Man of Steel, that Clark set off, that brought Zod to Earth? Brainiac heard it as well"
The Superman nemesis marks a change from the rumored inclusion of Darkseid as the main baddie for the "Justice League" film. The site claims the film's producers are "pushing him [Darkseid] towards later."
The site also claims they have the line-up of the seven villains that will make up the 'Suicide Squad' in Warners' proposed movie about the DC comic bad guys.

In his 1998 autobiography Still Me, Christopher Reeve recalled: "At an especially bleak moment [prior to an operation that might result in his death], the door [of his hospital room] flew open and in hurried a squat fellow with a blue scrub hat and a yellow surgical gown and glasses, speaking in a Russian accent. For the first time since the accident, I laughed. My old friend had helped me know that somehow I was going to be okay." Scoot McNairy had a resume of TV guest spots and indie movie roles when he appeared as one of the two leads in the minimalist creature feature "Monsters." The low-budget film didn't exactly set the global box office on fire, but it served as a calling card for its director, Gareth Edwards. It also positioned McNairy for a run of character actor ubiquity with memorable roles -- if you happened to see the films -- in "Killing Them Softly," "Promised Land" and "Touchy Feely." He has also become a Best Picture lucky charm with important parts in "Argo" and "12 Years a Slave." McNairy transitions to TV leading man status in Sunday (June 1) night's premiere of AMC's "Halt and Catch Fire." In the '80s-set computer drama, McNairy plays Gordon Clark, formerly promising computer wizard who has put many of his ambitions on hold to try to live a more stable...

AMC's computer drama “Halt and Catch Fire” — about the rise of the 1980s personal-computer era — premieres June 1, and the network has released a new video introducing one of the series’ characters, Gordon Clark (played by “Argo” alum Scoot McNairy). Judging from the video, Clark is a gifted but overlooked computer engineer in danger of letting his prime slip away from him, when he's spurred into grabbing for his destiny by the far more confident Joe MacMillan (played by “The Hobbit” veteran Lee Pace). AMC has released its first teaser for "Halt and Catch Fire," its 1980s-set drama about the personal computing revolution starring Lee Pace.
Pace ("Pushing Daisies," "The Hobbit") plays Joe MacMillan, a former Ibm executive who wants his current company to get into the PC game a year after Ibm released its first home machine. He enlists engineer Gordon Clark (Scoot McNairy) and programming whiz kid Cameron Howe (Mackenzie Davis) to help with his project.
The series also stars Kerry Bishe as Clark's wife -- she and McNairy also played a married couple in "Argo" -- and Toby Huss.
The show's title, incidentally, is a reference to a bit of computer machine code that forces the unit to stop working.

I’ll start off by saying that I’m simply not that big of a DC fan. Marvel is much more my style. However, one medium where DC rules the roost is in the medium of television. Wonder Woman, Batman (now a hilarious comic by the name of Batman ’66), Lois And Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman, and most prominently, Smallville – the show which made Chloe Sullivan and Whitney Fordman an official part of the Superman lore – have all brought the publisher’s heroes to the small screen in appropriately grand fashion.
The show actually broke the record (albeit by five episodes) for the longest consecutively running sci-fi television series of all time. Not the proudest title to hold, but no matter what, 218 episodes and 10 seasons is an impressive feat for something that is pretty much Dawson’s Creek with superheroes. In the wake of the controversy over Ben Affleck's role as Batman, James wades into the issue of casting concerns...
Naomi Watts is Princess Diana. Once upon a time this - the casting and the very existence of Oliver Hirschbiegel's film biopic Diana - would have generated tremendous amounts of controversy. It would have been huge news, creating the same amount of hoopla that greets the announcement of a fresh Spider-Man or Batman reboot and the subsequent re-casting of the Peter Parker or Bruce Wayne role. Instead, my Spidey-senses and Bat-devices detect only a few indifferent ripples.
There's not much to shout about here. Instead, it's a shrug, and that's partly due to the passage of time (Diana has been dead over 15 years) and partly due, I reckon, to the fact that audiences have had their fill of flicks about aristocrat Brits.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. made it official at Comic-Con today:
Cobie Smulders will appear on the premiere of this wildly anticipated drama as Agent Maria Hill, her role on The Avengers.
“I wanted very much to have Cobie in the pilot because as much as anyone else, she Is Shield,” writer-director Joss Whedon told EW in a statement. “She’s cool and commanding, and has the dry humor that plays so well with Clark’s. Also, if she’s in it I get to hang out with Cobie.”
It's unclear just how often the actress' How I Met Your Mother schedule will permit her to appear on the series, but fans can expect to see her beyond the pilot.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., meanwhile, debuted its first episode this afternoon at Comic-Con. We'll post our initial thoughts on it shortly.

It was just revealed during the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D panel at San Diego Comic Con that How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders will not only appear in the show's pilot, but also become a recurring guest star on the ABC show. Commenting on the casting, Whedon said "I wanted very much to have Cobie in the pilot because as much as anyone else, she Is Shield!". Continuing on Cobie's Shield=-centric role, Whedon also commented on her chemistry with star Clark Gregg. "She’s cool and commanding, and has the dry humor that plays so well with Clark’s. Also, if she’s in it I get to hang out with Cobie." This somewhat comes as no surprise as Cobie's voice could be heard in several Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D promotional trailers talking to Agent Ward. Are you excited...

It’s official: Cobie Smulders is reprising her Avengers role in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
In fact, the How I Met Your Mother star appears in the very first episode, re-teaming her with Clark Gregg’s resurrected Agent Coulson, in a pilot that’s been kept under wraps by the network.
“I wanted very much to have Cobie in the pilot because as much as anyone else, she Is Shield,” says the pilot’s writer-director Joss Whedon in a statement to EW. “She’s cool and commanding, and has the dry humor that plays so well with Clark’s.

This Is The End doesn't have the monopoly on actors playing themselves in movies. Just check this lot out...
Last week saw the UK release of This Is The End, in which members of Judd Apatow's comedy troupe wind up trapped in James Franco's house, post-Rapture. Most of the world's population has been Raptured into the next life, or otherwise fallen into a great big hole in Franco's lawn.
The film is adapted from a 2007 sketch called Jay & Seth Vs The Apocalypse, which featured Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogen squabbling with each other in a living room. Both reprise their roles here, as exaggerated versions of themselves. You know how Rogen is often criticised for playing himself in movies? Well, he literally plays himself in this one, to a certain degree. Elsewhere, Michael Cera plays a drug-addled dickhole, Emma Watson is a...

Between now and June 28, the deadline for Emmy voters to submit nomination ballots, EW.com will feature interviews with some of the actors and actresses whose names we hope to hear when nominations are announced on July 18.
Audition processes are notoriously grueling, but actor Matthew Rhys scored his role on FX’s The Americans by literally being slapped in the face.

At ABC‘s upfront, there were a few things that the network wanted to make sure you knew. 1) They are really impressed with the idea that people are going to watch Rebel Wilson do just about anything, and 2) There isn’t anything they’re happier about than bringing you more episodes of television created by Shonda Rhimes.
On these notes, the network would love for you to know that more Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal are coming your way. These, ABC would like to impress upon you (as advertisers) are really good shows. Because… hellllooo… so many people watch them that we’re bringing them back. But wait, don’t think that you’re as excited as you can get yet, because if those are your favorite shows, then we have a new one for you to fall in love with, Betrayal.
Also on the agenda, and actually looking like they might be interesting,...

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the fourth announced. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on CBS.
With CBS leading in viewers by the widest margin of any network in 23 years, the network has little need to refresh its line-up this year - especially with last season's successes like "2 Broke Girls" and "Persons of Interest" adding to a solid run of hits in recent years.
Yet it's not resting on its laurels, ordering six new shows and shifting four existing shows around the schedule to shore up its weak points, in the process teaming its two biggest comedies "Big Bang Theory" and "Two and a Half Men" on the one night.
Several other pilots didn't make the final cut and won't be seen include cop drama "The Widow Detective", various comedies about twenty...

Remember in those old TV shows when the family would gather around the television for dinner? Well that's how it was in my house growing up. Every night, dinner would be ate in the living room with some show blearing and the kids -- all three of us -- trying not to choke while we either laughed or gasped at what was playing.
We had few traditions in our house, but dinner time TV was one of them. Thursday was reserved for NY Undercover and McDonald's. While everyone else in the world hated Monday's, my brother and I loved them. We had pizza, two wrestling programs, and Monday Night Football. What wasn't to love?
As we grew, we drifted a bit, as brothers do. But we were always home on Monday night to have our pepperoni and bacon pizza and watch grown men in tights beat what little sense they...

Just about every film at Sundance is a world premiere. So why is there a "Premieres" section, and how is it different than the Competition or the Spotlight or the New Frontiers or the Next or...okay, I think that's all of them. Sundance describes Premieres as "a showcase of some of the most highly anticipated dramatic films of the coming year from new and established directors" and Documentary Premieres as "about big subjects or by master filmmakers that showcase the power of the form."
Basically, what it really means is here's where you find the attention-grabbers at Sundance. These are the big honking movies, the movies featuring Hollywood directors and talent coming down from their Valhalla of craft services and video village to get their hands dirty with the independents. These are the movies that have the biggest red carpets and the majority of the press coverage (see this post).

• Gossip Girl alum Aaron Tveit has landed the lead in a new USA Network pilot by White Collar creator Jeff Eastin, per Deadline.

There are so many major superheroic players involved in Joss Whedon's "Avengers" that it's easy to forget about the equally important supporting characters in the film. Like S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill (played by "How I Met Your Mother" actress Cobie Smulders) for example.
Thanks to a lengthy chat with Smulders at D23, we are very intrigued about Hill's story arc in the film, but also psyched that Smulders snagged the role. She's just so fun and down to earth, and didn't geek out too much when we asked her about the most surreal moment on set thus far.
"I showed up to the set, like a week before we started shooting, just to meet with Joss and do rehearsals and stuff and I walked on the set and it was freakin' huge," Smulders recalled of stepping onto the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier for the first time. "It was the size of a soundstage,...
