Meta is premiering a VR project that could make this October the spookiest season yet. The tech giant’s Meta Quest 2 devices will host Scream Park, an immersive series produced by the innovative online video outfit BlackBoxTV.
The eight-episode series stars Grace Van Dien, who recently had a breakout role as the cheerleader Chrissy on the fourth season of the Netflix hit Stranger Things. Anyone intrigued by the notorious, real-life murders that took place in 1912 Villisca, Iowa, would be best advised to check out the Wikipedia entry on the case. It’s far scarier than Tony E. Valenzuela’s low-budget movie inspired by the events, which devolves into typical teen-oriented, supernatural horror.
Although not as well-known as many other true-crime stories, the axe murders certainly deserve a place in the pantheon of intriguing, unsolved crimes. On a summer evening, a married couple and six young children, two of whom were guests, were brutally hacked and bludgeoned to death by an unknown assailant. A traveling minister...

As far as “unsolved mystery” horror films go, The Axe Murders Of Villisca is nothing more than generic at best. Why prey on such a famed case in – wait, let’s rewind quick. Are you even aware of this tragic Iowa slaughterfest? Let’s revisit June 9th, 1912. According to legend, a family was brutally murdered at night by a axe-wielding maniac who was never arrested. One by one, the Moore family was beaten to death – some with the axe’s bluntest side, others hacked and slashed. A traveling Presbyterian minister confessed to the murders, claiming he heard windmills in his head before blacking out – but no convictions were made, and the deed went unpunished.

A new horror film has been made that is inspired by the horrific true story of a family and their friends who were viciously murdered in 1912 in the Iowa town of Villisca. The film is called The Axe Murders of Villisca, and the murder mystery has never been solved. It's an insane story that would make a great and terrifying horror film. Unfortunately, this movie takes place in the modern da,y and it centers around some friends who are into ghost hunting. I would have much rather seen an authentic period film that tells the actual story because that would be a lot more interesting. I'll still watch this, though, because I've been familiar with this story for years, and I've gotta see how the movie turns out, for better or for worse.

There are a few details available for the horror feature Villisca. Based on the Moore murders, several teenagers break into an early 20th Century crime scene. Here, they hope to solve a tragedy, that occurred over a hundred years ago. The film, from director Tony E. Valenzuela, recently had a showing at the Los Angeles Film Festival. While a North American release has not been released, there are a couple of stills from the film, available here. The Moore murders involved a random attack. In 1912, eight people were killed by trespassers. The killers hid in the attic, until everyone returned home from church. The results of the attack were truly horrifying. Now, three outcasts will break into this farmhouse and search for clues, to the family's death. But, something unimaginable lays beneath the floorboards. At least four stills have been released for the film. Two can be found here. One...

In a land overrun by ruthless creatures that hunt by sound, even the faintest whimper can lead to your death in Tim Lebbon's The Silence, a new horror novel hitting shelves later this month. Titan Books has provided us with an exclusive excerpt from Lebbon's latest to share with Daily Dead readers, and we also have a look at two recent 31 images revealed by Rob Zombie, as well as details on the zombie series, Fight of the Living Dead, which is now available to watch in its entirety on BlackBoxTV.
Tim Lebbon's The Silence: "In the darkness of a underground cave system, blind creatures hunt by sound. Then there is light, there are voices, and they feed... Swarming from their prison, the creatures thrive and destroy. To scream, even to whisper, is to summon death. As the hordes lay waste to Europe, a girl watches to see if they will cross the sea.

Wearing tinted goggles and placed in a prison, the nine real-life YouTube personalities don’t know what’s going to happen next. But when they take off their goggles, they might wish they never had, as they face a simulated zombie apocalypse in the competition/reality mash-up series from Alpine Labs, Fight of the Living Dead, which has just been acquired by Cinedigm for their streaming network, ‘Con TV.
The goal of Fight of the Living Dead: to survive 24 hours in a simulated zombie apocalypse. You can’t be eaten, but you can be kicked out of the game by zombies throughout the simulation or by other competitors during challenges. The series is expected to be available to stream on Cinedigm’s new network, ‘Con TV, in late 2014.
All nine participants are YouTube stars with hundreds of thousands, and in some cases several million, channel subscribers. Fight of the Living...

With Skypemare and The Summoners (among many other notable short films) having had their world premieres last night, October 14th, at the 13th annual Screamfest Film Festival, we were there to photograph the black carpet. Step inside to check out our photo gallery.
In addition to Skypemare writer, director and producer John Fitzpatrick, stars Cerina Vincent (Cabin Fever) and Annika Marks attended the premiere, as did co-star Adam J. Yeend, editor James Pickel, producer Sarah Fitzpatrick, co-producer Ryan Dillon, cinematographer Nicholas Kaat and musical artist Jason Italiano (who lent a track to the film).
Revolving around the character of Allison (Vincent), who, home alone on Halloween night while Skyping with her best friend, Jenna (Marks), witnesses something terrifying unfold on both sides of her computer screen, Skypemare received a thunderous audience response (and we'll be exclusively hosting the flick here soon so stay tuned).

CSI creator Anthony Zuiker has teamed up with Yahoo for Cybergeddon, a scripted drama set in the world of cybercrime. The plot revolves around a female government agent who has a falling out with the law and is on the run herself, while pursuing a master hacker who wants to bring the world to its "cyber-knees." Episodes of Cybergeddon will premiere in the fall in an exclusive window on Yahoo!, and then be packaged together into a 90-minute feature available on digital platforms and DVD. Yahoo's video initiatives, now more popular than Vevo, are continuing Yahoo's trend of tapping Hollywood talent for high profile series, including its recently announced comedy slate, which includes shows from Seth Morris, Saturday Night Live writer Mike OBrien, and Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Digital. In October, Zuiker announced original YouTube channel BlackBoxTV with Tony E. Valenzuela and the Collective Digital Studio. Cybergeddon is financed by Dolphin Media,...

Moving away from independently produced content, "BlackBoxTV" is the real-deal folks, a genuine web-based channel that will be jam-packed with all sorts of horror goodness from scripted anthology shorts to a documentary-style visit to haunted location across the planet. The most exciting endeavor, though, is that Bloody Disgusting will be partnering on "Black Friday," their weekly program dedicated to what's new and cool in the genre! Now that the "BlackBoxTV" initiative has officially been announced, Bloody Disgusting caught up with creator Tony E. Valenzuela and producer Anthony E. Zuiker ("CSI") who both exclusively reveal what we'll see in the coming year on the new station!
