Historically, short films haven’t exactly proved lucrative, but that could be changing, said industry insiders who judged the IMAX Industry prize at TheWrap’s fifth annual ShortList Film Festival award ceremony. Eighteen film and TV screenplays have been shortlisted for the inaugural Gateway La Script Development Program launched by Australians in Film (AiF).
The winner will get a cash prize to facilitate development of the script, a flight to Los Angeles, meetings with producers and executives and table reads.
AiF will announce the winner and runners-up, who will form an .Aussie List., determined by a panel of expert judges, and the value of the cash, in a month.
The projects were selected from more than 500 scripts submitted to the L.A.-based Australian entertainment industry guild. The program aims to provide Australians living and working in the Us with more opportunities for support and resources and to help Australian projects secure exposure to the best networks in the business.

Australians in Film has named the judges for its new Gateway La script development program. Modelled on The Black List. and the UK's Brit List, the program will support the development of commercially successful, Australian-created television and movie screenplays for Us and international audiences.
