A veritable who’s-who of Hollywood and beyond joined together on Tuesday to raise millions in relief funds for victims of the deadly and devastating recent hurricanes, Harvey and Irma.
With celebs manning the phone lines, the Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Relief Telethon generated over $44 million in aid, according to event organizers.
But what were the stars doing when the cameras weren’t watching? People was on-site in Los Angeles at Universal Studios (the telethon was also held in New York and Nashville), where everyone from Barbra Streisand to Justin Bieber was doing their part.

Selena Gomez became emotional as she remembered a family that drowned last month after their van was tragically swept away in the rising floodwaters in her hometown of Houston during Hurricane Harvey.
At Tuesday’s celebrity telethon to raise money for hurricane relief efforts, Gomez spoke through tears as she remembered the Saldivar family – relatives of the late singer Selena Quintanilla.
“August 27, seven members of the Saldivar family tried to escape the rising flood waters. Their van is swept into the bayou, only Sammy Saldivar manages to survive,” Gomez, 25, said during the Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Relief telethon.

When young Andrew awoke a hive of bees after shooting a Bb gun at a junk car near his home in Arizona, he did the only thing he could. Channeling the Saiyan Prince Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z, he initiated "Full Force Power," which looks like this:
And Andrew learned, as I'm sure many young kids soon learn, humans can't perform Saiyan powers. Luckily, Andrew survived the encounter and gave this amazing interview after the event.
That kid is tough as nails if he stood there in the midst of 400 bees and balls out started yelling like Vegeta. In my mind, he's just as awesome. ...

Jada Pinkett Smith recently jetted off to Hawaii to enjoy a tropical vacation with her family, but while the blue water and palm trees are nice and all, we can't stop staring at her rockin' body. The 45-year-old looked stunning when she was spotted soaking up the sun with her daughter, Willow, on Wednesday. The Gotham actress went for a run in the sand in a white bikini and cowgirl hat before hitting the waves on a surfboard. Later that day, she changed into a neon orange bikini and matching cover-up pants, which instantly made us think of the amazing vibe in her husband Will Smith's 1997 music video for "Miami." This family vacation also isn't the only time Jada nearly killed us with her toned physique. In December 2015, she enjoyed another getaway to Hawaii with Will and their two kids. A few days after Will Smith told Jimmy Kimmel that he loves being famous because of his hilarious relationship with his fans, Ellen DeGeneres put his claims to the test. After opening up about how his new movie Collateral Beauty helped him with the recent passing of his father when he stopped by Ellen's show on Thursday, he happily agreed to see how many selfies he could take with the audience in 60 seconds. He frantically ran around the studio taking plenty of photos with fans, and although none rivaled Ellen's iconic Oscar selfie, he still ended up with some pretty amazing snaps. Since any New York City cinephile has a nearly suffocating wealth of theatrical options, we figured it’d be best to compile some of the more worthwhile repertory showings into one handy list. Joss Whedon's California-set Much Ado, filmed in black and white over 12 days, is a charming and witty triumph

There was a great fear in the 1960s and 70s that various respected directors who'd moved into making epics and blockbusters would be unable to return, even occasionally, to more modest productions. Some of them didn't, most notably David Lean. Some of them did, most impressively John Huston with Fat City, Wise Blood and The Dead. The same query was raised over Francis Ford Coppola and, more recently, hangs over Christopher Nolan. But the 49-year-old Joss Whedon has triumphantly answered the question.
After scripting Buffy the Vampire Slayer for TV and the first Toy Story for the cinema, Whedon rose fairly rapidly to direct The Avengers with a budget of $220m. His producers apparently insisted that between the long shooting schedule on...

Beastie Boys eased naturally into their role as hip-hop elder statesmen a long time ago. These days the Boys are so far removed from trends in contemporary hip-hop that they’re practically Paleolithic—and that seems to suit them just fine. Remember that one year (2001) when the list-happy AFI (American Film Institute) decided to compete with the Globes and the Oscars in year end prizes? No, that didn't last long. But there's another AFI, The Australian Film Institute, that has been around for a long time and is in no such danger of being a one-off. This year, they're all about the amazing family crime drama Animal Kingdom which they awarded with a record breaking 18 nominations. Sure, the film is in danger of being way overhyped for people who are coming to it late (which is just about everyone given the sorry state of international distribution for dramas of virtually any kind) but for those who can slough off the "omg" raves, I guarantee you'll think it at least an insinuating and well executed crime drama.

HollywoodNews.com: As the 25th Anniversary of the world’s most dangerous band plunges onwards towards it’s halfway point, Gwar is continuing it’s assault on humanity with relentless aplomb. This past weekend saw Gwar descend upon the traditionally hippy–fied Bonnaroo music festival to play a late-night Saturday set in front of 15,000 screaming fans. It was good enough to garner the band Spin Online’s award for both best and worst act on the third day of the popular, drug-soaked music and art spectacle.

For Hollywood pundits, industry folk and Oscar fans still paying attention on Monday, a major question remained: How did David slay Goliath? For as much as "The Hurt Locker" was the critics' darling, it had three major strikes against it in its battle against the mighty James Cameron's "Avatar."First, the box office was paltry . it's taken in just $14.7 million domestically, compared to an amazing $720.6 million for "Avatar." That makes "The Hurt Locker" the lowest-grossing best picture winner since accurate records have been kept.Second, it had no big acting names, usually an important factor in Oscar victory. And third, it was about the Iraq war, a subject moviegoers traditionally just don't want to deal with. "Iraq is usually the kiss of death at the Oscars," says Tom O'Neil, blogger for the Los Angeles Times' Envelope, an awards site.

Last year, we got a hold of a documentary called Reformat The Planet and caught wind of the 8-Bit music craze. A year later, we still totally love it! Before The Highball was The Highball, it was an abandoned Salvation Army (and before that, a non-abandoned Salvation Army!). In that abandoned space, during SXSW 2009, we put up a stage, a couple of screens, and a bar, and we had our first Datapop show! Digital musicians from near and far plugged in their modified game boys and sound boards and other noisy gadgets to amps, and they made that abandoned Salvation Army into a Party! Three days later, that place still reeked of beer and cigarettes and sweat. Thanks Datapop!
We got to relive that magic (minus the beer and cigarette smell) again in November, in the no longer abandoned space (with a much nicer look!) for the Databeez Tour, but...

The memo on waning Jonas Brothers mania apparently has yet to reach Lima, Peru. Riot police were called to the city's oceanfront Marriott Hotel Sunday when more than 1,000 hormonal fans took to the streets to form a tearful, shrieking and otherwise order-be-damned welcome wagon for the brothers Jonas.
