When it comes to Best Supporting Actor at the Daytime Emmys, it usually pays to bet on “General Hospital.” The ABC soap opera has won the category 11 times, far more than any other series, and this year “Gh” could have an overwhelming impact on the category as it accounts for 5 of the 10 pre-nominees in the race. The favorite to win with 12/5 odds is one of “Gh’s” past winners, Chad Duell. Do you agree with our predictions that he’s the front-runner?
Duell has played mob scion Michael Corinthos for eight years, since he assumed the role in 2010. Before him the role had been played by child actor Dylan Cash (2002-2008) and then as a young adult by Drew Garrett (2009-2010). Duell was also fairly young when he stepped into the role, so he earned three Daytime Emmy nominations for Best Younger Actor (2011-2012, 2014) before aging out of that category.

In Parts One and Two of our interview with Drew Garrett, the acclaimed actor spoke about his upcoming role on CBS-tv's The Mentalist, on February 17th at 10 p.m., as well as his leaving General Hospital, and his vindicating Emmy nomination. In Part Three below, Garrett shares his hopes for the future, and what he's learned over these past two years.
We Love Soaps TV: You have proven yourself as a dramatic actor. Have you ever wanted to do comedy?
Drew Garrett: I love doing comedy and I think I’m pretty good at it. For whatever reasons, I tend to just book dramatic roles. I don’t know why that is. I am just as capable of doing comedy, and I have a blast doing it. For the time being, I walk into the door and casting directors say, “Oh yeah, this is a troubled youth.”

Drew Garrett amazed the viewers of General Hospital when he took on the role of troubled Michael Corinthos Jr. in 2009. It shocked the entire industry when he was fired less than a year later. So what happened to this prolific actor, and what is he doing now? In this exclusive new interview, Garrett discusses his upcoming guest appearance in CBS-tv's The Mentalist on February 17th at 10 p.m., his confusing departure from General Hospital, aspirations for the future, and hard-life lessons learned along the way.
We Love Soaps TV: Tell me about your role on The Mentalist, coming up on CBS, February 17th at 10 p.m.?

We Love Soaps TV: Was it hard for you to suddenly become famous and have that much attention focused on you?
Drew Garrett: To be honest, it wasn’t negative. It was exciting. It was what I had been working for. The one thing that was surprising was being in the grocery store, picking up stuff for the weekend, and having somebody come up and call me out and start talking about Gh. 'General Hospital' - Sonny's sons Michael and Morgan - that could not have been more bungled. It isn't that the new actors aren't good in the roles.
No, it's that the show chose to make the switches at the height of a major storyline involving Sonny being on trial and his children playing a major role in the trial.
Specifically, it was understandable why 'Gh' recast the original Michael, Dylan Cash, when the character sent into a year-long coma and had to be aged. Actor Drew Garrett not only succeeded making Michael his own creation, he was nominated for a Daytime Emmy.

Less than a year ago, 'General Hospital' made a big move by aging the character of Michael Corinthos, III. Young Dylan Cash, who had played the role for six years, literally growing up before our eyes, was deemed too young for the mature story the writers had in mind for Sonny's son. It was a rough transition for fans, but since Michael was in a vegetative state and bed-ridden for months and months, when he finally awoke and the actor playing Michael was Drew Garrett, we accepted him.
However, in a surprisingly move, 'General Hospital' has replaced Drew Garrett with Chad Duell. No reason given, just a general statement wishing Garrett well in his future endeavors. The pink slip came as a shock to Garrett who claims he was blindsided by the dismissal. And just a month ago he was on the pre-Emmy nomination list for award consideration.
