Lykke Li has released a haunting cover of Johnny Cash’s classic song, “Ring of Fire.”
Li’s first new release since 2022’s Eyeye, the single arrives as part of the soundtrack for the new Netflix film, Damsel, due on March 8th. Speaking in a new interview with Variety, Li explained that she wanted to honor the song’s distinct vibe while leaning into its emotionality. In the end, a spur-of-the-moment performance spawned the sound she was looking for.
“I sat down at the piano and the first thing that came out of my mouth was what I recorded,” she said. “To be honest, the only version I’ve ever heard in my whole life is the Johnny Cash version, so I had no real history. I just went into it pretty blank… You can feel that energy on the recording, so it’s a very important process for me...

Everyone’s talking about Amazon’s new revenge thriller series, Wilderness. Adapted from the bestselling novel of the same name by B.E. Jones, and starring Jenna Coleman, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ashley Benson, and Eric Balfour, Wilderness landed on the streamer just in time for the rainy season and made a splash thanks to its complex heroin and dark subject matter.
Wilderness follows Liv Taylor (Coleman) as she tries to cope with finding out that her dashing husband Will (Jackson-Cohen) is cheating on her. After marrying Will and choosing to leave her old life in England behind so that they can move to America to advance Will’s career, Liv then snaps when their dream life together falls apart.
Having been raised by a toxic, narcissistic mother, and therefore having entered adulthood as a people-pleaser, Liv cannot bear that she simply wasn’t enough for the one person she was finally able to feel vulnerable with,...

There are tons of great indie covers of classic rock songs. Today’s indie bands have many great classic rock bands to inspire them. Here is a list of the 10 best instances.
Best Coast | Clasos/Getty Images 10. ‘Rhiannon’ – Best Coast
Indie band Best Coast’s cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon” is interesting. It appeared on the various artists’ album, A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac. They definitely made it their own. The piano as the backbeat isn’t the best, but guitarist and vocalist Bethany Cosentino’s singing is excellent on the classic rock tune.
9. ‘Gold Only Knows’ – Jr Jr
Jr Jr’s cover of The Beach Boys’ classic “Gold Only Knows” is a perfect example of an indie cover of a classic rock song. It blends the two genres, which are separated by multiple decades. The lyrics are classic rock, but the vibe, mood, and sound are all indie rock.

“America’s Got Talent” made a second stand in support of physical and mental well-being on June 8 when Simon Cowell dropped the confetti on songstress Nightbirde at the end of the second night of auditions. At the age of 30, Nightbirde (also known as Jane) wrote the original song “It’s Okay” about “the last year of [her] life” which has been characterized by her battle with cancer currently residing in her lungs, spine and liver. By the end of her segment, Jane commented that though she’s only been given a 2% chance of survival that “is not 0%” and she wishes “people knew how amazing it is” that the 2% is something.
Ahead of her performance, Jane expressed that “it’s important that everyone knows I’m so much more than the bad things that happen to me.” Through the song’s lyrics, she paints the picture of a person trying to escape pain...

"She felt no time. All she could feel was ecstasy." An official trailer is available for an intriguing Brazilian documentary film titled Êxtase, which initially premiered at the Cph:dox Film Festival last year. It's next playing at the MoMA Doc Fortnight event in NYC, running online now through April. The 75-minute doc marks the feature debut of Moara Passoni, who has associate produced Petra Costa's other doc films before this including: Elena, Olmo & the Seagull, The Edge of Democracy. Passoni's Êxtase (which just translates to Ecstasy in English) is an "elliptical essay portrait" of a young girl experience both rapture and torture starving herself as a way to find a place in a brutal uncertain world. Reviews say the film is an "imaginative, texturally rich imagery and staged sequences to produce a thoughtful and often troubling account of a young woman’s eating disorders, as lived from the inside.

You might not know who Lykke Li is and that’s all well and good since there are a lot of celebrities out there and getting to know all of them is kind of a headache even for those us that write about them. But she is someone you might be impressed by if you take the time to listen to her music since she is a noted singer/songwriter. The style of music she performs isn’t what you would call for everyone but it is still something that’s impressive enough to get her noticed and it has been more than enough

2019 has been going pretty well for Mark Ronson. He won both a Grammy and an Oscar for co-writing Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper‘s ubiquitous duet “Shallow,” which reached number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 after the duo’s performance during the Academy Awards telecast. Now he’s making another bid for the top of the charts, and maybe some more Grammys, with his fifth album, “Late Night Feelings,” which dropped on June 21.
Producer and songwriter extraordinaire Ronson doesn’t sing his songs. He leaves that to an all-star lineup of guest vocalists, and in the case of “Late Night Feelings” they’re all women, including Miley Cyrus (“Nothing Breaks Like a Heart”), Alicia Keys (“Truth”), Camila Cabello (“Find U Again”) and Lykke Li (the title track). That slate of collaborations has earned the album positive reviews: as of this writing it has a MetaCritic score of 72 based on six reviews counted thus far — four positive,...

Mark Ronson branded himself a nostalgia alchemist with Amy Winehouse, updating mid-century R&b with a rare-groove-fanatic’s ear for detail. Where super-producers like Diplo might make serviceable magic with anyone, Ronson’s classicism generally requires the wearer to animate it. Winehouse was an ideal match. To a lesser extent, so was Bruno Mars, another classicist whose RIAA Diamond-selling Prince homage “Uptown Funk” proved how lucrative Ronson’s science could be.

The reimagined cut will appear on the singer’s forthcoming Ep Still Sad Still Sexy, out later this summer, featuring new music and other remixes from her fourth LP, So Sad So Sexy.
The song opens with a breathy, auto-crooned R&b croon before Lil Baby’s brief, racy guest verse. “When I get down, have it nice and wet/Can’t stay long,...

Mark Ronson enlisted Camila Cabello for his yearning new song “Find U Again.” The duo co-wrote the synth-pop track with Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker and singer-songwriter Isley Juber (Shawn Mendes’ “Mercy”); Ronson and Parker co-produced.
Cabello fronts the sleek single, crooning over twinkling keys and spongey synth-bass. “Walk in the late night/Looking for your eyes/Put up a fight to find you/Lose it every time,” she sings. Later, she pleads, “Have mercy on me, please/I messed up to the third degree/This crush is kind of...

Mark Ronson and rising singer Yebba unveiled a shimmering new anthem “Don’t Leave Me Lonely,” which will appear on Ronson’s upcoming album, Late Night Feelings, out June 21st via RCA Records.
Yebba, who hails from West Memphis, Arkansas and has roots in gospel, delivers a classic disco diva turn on “Don’t Leave Me Lonely,” pushing her vocals over Ronson’s infectious production, which expertly mixes dance drums and synth stabs with clever string flourishes. “Oh, if we fall apart, let’s do it in the dark,” she sings,...

Producer Mark Ronson released the ’70s-inspired video for his disco-esque single “Late Night Feelings,” featuring Lykke Li. The sultry clip stars Li as a lounge singer/dancer decked out in a red wig, pink translucent nightgown and feather boa. She dances, sways, writhes and bathes around a suite decorated in matching Valentine’s Day colors.
Ronson makes the occasional appearance in the video as a throwback club performer on an analog television set. Li attempts to reach Ronson through the telephone, and eventually, at the end of the clip, she...

His new album of ‘sad bangers’ is inspired by his divorce – and has already scored one global hit single. So why does he feel he’s being pushed out of pop?
Mark Ronson fiddles with the lead that connects his phone to the hotel room speaker. He presses play and rushes out, reappearing when the last notes die away. That’s really good, I tell him, because it is. The song he plays is the title track from his forthcoming album, Late Night Feelings, and it pulls off the old disco trick of sounding simultaneously euphoric and yearning. The track packs the kind of chorus – sung by Lykke Li – that you suspect is going to be inescapable for the rest of the year. He nods. “I think these are my best …” He trails off and rolls his eyes. “Well, of course I’m going to sit in front of you and say something like that.

Three days before Christmas, Chris Isaak’s longtime bass player Rowland Salley headed for Lac+USC Medical Center, where former Isaak guitarist James Calvin Wilsey, the man behind the dreamy sound of Isaak’s multimillion-selling hit, “Wicked Game,” was hospitalized. “I’d driven to the L.A. hospital to see him,” Salley said. “I took my uke, fully expecting to walk into the room, sit down, talk some turkey and catch up. Even play a few songs. Such was not the case.”

The six-minute training montage in “Creed II” was a chance for composer Ludwig Göransson to make a “big statement” with his music. Göransson needed to work within the constraints and themes on both the original “Creed,” which he also composed, and the iconic “Rocky” theme music, while giving the audience something new and epic.
“I’m always trying to experiment and come up with new palettes of sound and new combinations of music that you haven’t really seen or heard in film before,” Göransson told TheWrap. “I’m just constantly figuring out new ways to reinvent myself. And if it’s combining ’70s jazz with Puccini and 808 drums, I’ll try that.”
And the result? Göransson put together a grandiose composition that marries modern hip-hop production with a traditional string orchestra and even a hint of ’70s jazz instrumentation as a nod to the original film. Hearing it as...

Swedish songstress Lykke Li’s 2008 debut album ushered her onto the music scene at around the same time that countrywoman Robyn’s finely crafted alt-pop began making waves, and it was perhaps inevitable that they’d be frequently lumped into similar categories. But after three albums and life changes like a move to Los Angeles, a death (her mother) and a birth (her son), she’d tired of that distinctively Swedish sound and longed to embrace the hip-hop and R&B sounds that her partner Jeff Bhasker (the Grammy-winning producer who’s collaborated with artists from Kanye West and Mark Ronson to Harry Styles) has long worked with. In advance of this album, she basically cautioned fans that it would be different.
And while “So Sad So Sexy” features a wide palette of sounds and beats that at times make her previous work sound stodgy, the good news is that...

Four years after the release of her most recent album “I Never Learn,” Swedish songstress Lykke Li dropped two new songs, “Deep End” and “Hard Rain.” The songs are the first tracks to emerge from her long-percolating fourth album “So Sad So Sexy”. The album is due on June 8 on RCA Records — Li’s first release with the label.
“Hard Rain,” which is being promoted as the single, was produced by 2016 Grammy producer of the year Jeff Bhasker, Malay and T-Minus. “Hard Rain” was produced by Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij.
The songs mark a stylistic departure for the singer, incorporating elements of the Swedish-pop sound of her previous albums with a more hip-hop/alt-r&B-leaning production.
A rather confusing line in the press release announcing the songs reads “Prior to recording this album, Lykke was busy nurturing liv, her love-child with Andrew Wyatt, Björn Yttling, Pontus Winnberg and Jeff Bhasker,...

The music scene in Austin, Texas, is alive with talent and energy – and you hope that energy would inspire Terrence Malick, who lives there, to bust out of the filmmaking funk of his recent work (Knight of Cups, To the Wonder). No such luck. Despite a few glimpses of Iggy Pop, Flea, Lykke Li and Big Freedia in live performance, Song to Song has no music in its DNA, not to mention its soul. Instead, Malick indulges in his usual visual tropes, having characters wander around aimlessly while muttering their mock-profound thoughts in voiceover.
