BAFTA winner Adeel Akhtar (“Fool Me Once”), Tracey Ullman (“The Tracey Ullman Show”), Finn Bennett (“True Detective: Night Country”) and Luther Ford (“The Crown”) have joined the cast of Netflix spy series “Black Doves.”
The previously announced cast includes Keira Knightley (“Boston Strangler”) Ben Whishaw (“Passages”), Sarah Lancashire (“Happy Valley”), Andrew Buchan (“Carnival Row”), Andrew Koji (“Warrior”), Kathryn Hunter (“Andor”), Sam Troughton (“Chernobyl”), Ella Lily Hyland (“Fifteen Love”), Adam Silver (“The Diplomat”), Ken Nwosu (“Look the Other Way and Run”), Gabrielle Creevy (“In My Skin”) and Omari Douglas (“Rye Lane”).
The series is written and created by “The Lazarus Project” showrunner Joe Barton. Just over a month after his arrival as CEO of Elizabeth Murdoch's Shine America, Rich Ross has set in motion a corporate restructuring of the television production company that has led to the departure of six executives in the past two weeks, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. However, Ross also is in the process of hiring at least 18 new employees, says a source, as part of a plan to expand in scripted television, boost efforts in Spanish-language programming and develop more properties for digital platforms. Maker Studios has spent the past few weeks as the most popular girl in school. Like any true Mean Girl, Maker has been courted by all of the strongest boys in the room, been voted most popular ahead of its main rivals, and feuded publicly with one of its fellow queen bees. Now, Maker's place at the top is looking much more secure; the YouTube studio has officially secured a $36 million investment (which is just slightly less than the initial rumored figure of $40M) led by gigantic media conglomerate Time Warner. The big time investment is just one million more than the round Machinima received from Google and other investors earlier this year, proving those two independent networks are a cut above their other competitors. However, even with the large payday secured, Maker might not be done; after all, Yahoo also expressed interest in investing in the company. Another big...

At the top of its TCA executive session, FX‘s president John Landgraf announced that the network has renewed acclaimed comedy series Louie for a 13-episode fourth season. Additionally, it has ordered seven more episodes of Russell Brand‘s late-night show BrandX, which Landgraf said will undergo creative changes. As for comedy series Wilfred, which is up 12% this season, Landgraf said he feels “optimistic” about a renewal, noting that that a deal on that is still being hammered out. Related: Russell Brand Says ‘BrandX’ Will Become More “Conventional” On the development front, the network has ordered The Bridge, a drama pilot based on the Scandinavian series Bron. The original series, created by Hans Rosenfeldt, follows a police investigation following the discovery of a dead body on the bridge connecting Denmark and Sweden. What could bring together the Murdochs and all of their rivals in the British publishing world? MediaGuardian 100, The Guardian’s annual list of the 100 most powerful individuals in the media world. For those of us Stateside, a couple of things should stand out: For one, the News Corp. phone hacking scandal has transformed this year’s list. Those at News Corp., like Rupert, James and Elizabeth Murdoch, all fell a bit. Everyone else involved seemed to gain. The judge in charge of investigating phone hacking, Lord Justice Leveson, made his debut on the list all...

Update: That's the word from UK news media. It’s just one of a number of options being considered by Shine, one of the UK’s and America's biggest independent production companies -- it bought Ben Silverman's Reveille -- and thought to be worth between $980 million and $1.3 billion. Elizabeth Murdoch has appointed Jp Morgan to advise on strategic options for her company, which is being courted by other TV companies as well as her Dad's News Corp, according to The Guardian. Jp Morgan is also advising Shine on potential acquisitions. It is understood that talks with News Corp have been “progressing well” but any deal is “not yet inevitable.” BSkyB, Murdoch’s pay-tv platform in the UK, already owns 13% of Shine. Liz owns 63% of Shine and another big backer is Sony Pictures Entertainment, which has 21% and announced back in 2009 that it wanted to sell its stake but nothing has happened since.

As you know, Deadline TV Editor Nellie Andreeva has been keeping you up-to-date on every development of this breaking labor story. ('Biggest Loser' Production To Resume On Monday With Replacements) Now here's my opinion: NBC needs to put an immediate stop to this disgusting situation before someone gets hurt. Shame on the broadcast network for embracing a show that's now bringing in scab workers on Monday to replace striking Iatse members. NBC can and should put its foot down after 10 seasons of airing The Biggest Loser and use its influence with Shine Group's Reveille Productions and 25/7 Productions, and Jd Roth's and Todd Nelson's Eyeworks-owned 3 Ball Productions, to stop the confrontation. And I'm calling on NBC Universal Television Group President/COO Jeff Gaspin to get personally involved. I'm also calling on Shine's Elizabeth Murdoch to consider her prominence in the entertainment biz and do the right thing. What else should be on the horizon?...

BSkyB is lifting its stake in the UK’s biggest indie TV producer from 13%, according to the Sunday Times. It is buying another 7% of Shine from Sony Pictures Entertainment, which is selling its 21% stake in the TV programme maker. Sony is divesting the shareholding because its international TV arm is increasingly in competition with Shine, the UK's biggest indie. Elizabeth Murdoch, CEO of Shine, is going to be adding to the 60% of the company she already owns, with Shine borrowing money to pay for the rest. Managers of TV companies that Shine has acquired own the balance [...]...

Cologne, Germany -- NBC Universal and Elizabeth Murdoch's Shine have signed a deal that will see Shine's German division produce a local-language version of NBC's "Minute to Win It" format for German commercial broadcaster Sat.1.
The agreement, announced just ahead of Miptv in Cannes next week, marks the first international sale for the NBC show, which the U.S. Network recently renewed for a second season.
Sat.1 has commissioned five episodes of the German version of "Minute to Win It," in which contestants compete in a variety of deceptively simple games for a chance at a huge cash prize. The German show, whose title translates a "The Perfect Minute," will premiere in a two-hour primetime slot on Sat.1 April 30.
Shine Germany, based in Cologne, is also adapting the NBC Universal format "Perfect 10" for Sat.1.
