Producer James Wan revealed last night on Ig that filming is officially underway on Mortal Kombat 2, which has Simon McQuoid returning to the director’s seat from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater (“The Exorcist,” “Moon Knight”).
Martyn Ford (“The Sandman”), Desmond Chiam (“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”), Ana Thu Nguyen (Suka) and Damon Herriman (House of Wax, The Nightingale) signed on a few weeks ago to play Shao Kahn, Edenian King Jerrod, Queen Sindel, and Netherrealm demon Quan Chi respectively.
It’s interesting to note that Herriman previously voiced the role of Kabal in the 2021 film.
Newcomers to the sequel also include Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Tati Gabrielle as Jade and Adeline Rudolph as Kitana.
Plot details remain scarce for the sequel, though the new cast additions continue to signal a bigger, bloodier affair packed with fatalities.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind is the third and latest installment of the Warner Bros. animated franchise following Scorpion’s Revenge and Battle of the Realms. And it wastes no time getting right into the bloody action. Literally in the first minute of the film a convoy of vehicles pulls looking like it rolled out of one of the better Road Warrior rip-offs smashes through the gates of a town. The occupants begin slicing off heads, ripping out spines, impaling and incinerating the residents in gruesome detail. King Kano and the Black Dragons have arrived, ironically telling the survivors they’re here to protect them in return for a small tax.

The grandiose, auspiciously R-rated new movie take on classic ultraviolent video game franchise Mortal Kombat is arriving sooner than you might think. Moreover, thanks to studio Warner Bros’ recent move of setting up its entire 2021 slate of films for day-and-date streaming debuts on HBO Max, the crimson-spilling cinematic scenery will be witnessed by audiences from home this April. However, in a potentially odd divergence from the game’s mythos, it has been revealed that, amongst an ensemble of classic Kombatants, the film’s star, Lewis Tan, will play a completely original character.
Warner’s Mortal Kombat reboot movie, helmed by first-time feature director Simon McQuoid and notably produced by James Wan (director of DC’s Aquaman and its developing sequel), will feature an immense ensemble of characters immediately familiar to the generations of gamers who have controlled them to lacerating, limbs-ripping results in the fighting franchise. Now, Warner has officially...

It might actually work out better in the long run that the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot will debut simultaneously on the big screen and HBO Max. After all, there are still plenty of question marks surrounding the long-term viability of the video game genre, and while there’ve been several major box office hits recently based on console favorites, there’s no guarantee that the latest adaptation of the long-running series will follow suit.
Once the Warner Bros. executives crunch the numbers and determine how many of the subscribers to their streaming platform have checked it out, though, a sequel could conceivably be announced very shortly after. Wonder Woman 3 was fast-tracked into development just two days after 1984 debuted, and with Mortal Kombat a much less expensive enterprise, the viewing figures used to justify a follow-up would be a lot smaller by comparison.

There’s still an agonizing wait ahead until Mortal Kombat makes its long-awaited return to movie theaters.
Not until 2021, in fact, will fans of the iconic fighting game franchise finally get to see their favourite characters in motion on the big screen, but even with a premiere date so far off, there’s been no shortage of leaks. Indeed, we’ve already been treated to sneak peeks of sorcerer Shang Tsung’s island and the stage of the original tournament depicted in the first game, but now, thanks to an unlikely source, a large chunk of the reboot’s cast may have been revealed.
Politician Steven Marshall, who recently visited Adelaide Studios’ film set in southern Australia, opted to share a collection of photos taken during the tour. At first glance, none of the images appears to depict much beyond endless green screens, but some interesting discoveries have been made upon closer inspection.

The former queen of Edenia lives in this new Mortal Kombat 11 trailer. Too bad You...will Die!
Mortal Kombat 11’s Kombat Pack Dlc is halfway out the door. Already, we’ve seen the movie version of Shang Tsung, an updated take on Nightwolf, and the stiff cyber-Austrian brutality of the Terminator. Down the line, we’re going to see Joker, Spawn, and presumably Ash Williams, but in the meantime, our next kombatant is the soaring scream queen Sindel.
Sindel is yet another mainstay of Mortal Kombat, first appearing in Mortal Kombat 3, which revolved around her. While she has shown up every other game or so, she didn’t become interesting or even threatening adversary until her reinvention in Mortal Kombat 9. It's a reinvention that we'll continue to see in her Mortal Kombat 11 appearance.
You can see Sindel gameplay, including her Fatal Blow and one of her Fatalities,...

As if Mortal Kombat 11‘s limb-rending, blood-soaked combat wasn’t already gruesome enough, it’s poised to get even more macabre.
Starting next week, the seasoned fighting game franchise will celebrate Halloween with a brand new limited-time event and a wealth of suitably-themed rewards. Free to all players from October 25th will be a series of four exclusive boss battles with some of the series’ toughest opponents, this time with a twist in the form of spooktastic match modifiers. Flying witches, ominous black cats, gravestones and, of course, falling pumpkins are just some of the delights fans can expect to contend with in each brawl and, should you succeed, some juicy rewards are yours for the taking.
New Brutalities, Halloween-specific consumable items and other in-game rewards round out the prize pool, all of which can be earned via gameplay. Those eager to dress-up their favourite characters for the occasion, on the other hand,...

In the eyes of this lifelong Batman fan, Gotham will forever remain a wonderful part of the character’s enduring mythos. I’m aware of how a percentage of you scoff at how it retold the Dark Knight’s beginnings – and those of his villains, for that matter – but it’s important that creators keep things fresh. After all, our hero couldn’t have gotten this far if everybody rehashed the same tales over and over again.
Over the five years that Gotham had been on the air, I couldn’t help making comparisons to Smallville in various news articles and reviews. And at a time like this, it’s hard not making another one. I say that because while both shows had a similar goal in fleshing out the backstory of a beloved icon, Smallville covered much more ground during its ten-season lifespan. On the plus side, like Smallville,...

As a pretty big fan of the series, I was obviously excited about the announcement of Mortal Kombat 11 back in December of last year. Surprisingly, time has felt like it has flown by, as we are now less than a month out from the title’s arrival. With the game set to arrive in just a few weeks, developer NetherRealm Studios is working hard to iron out any last-minute kinks. One of the ways the studio is doing so is through the use of this pre-order bonus beta. While it’s far from the full picture, what little the beta featured has me more excited than ever for the return of the franchise.
Like the online stress test that occurred previously, the full beta for Mortal Kombat 11 is mostly focused on testing the online servers. What time I had to spend online was actually surprisingly competent, which I wasn’t expecting.

Mortal Kombat's yellow-clad mascot might not be the stealthiest ninja, but he's definitely one of the most versatile.
While Scorpion is the face of Mortal Kombat, it's always been a curious choice. Street Fighter has Ryu, King of Fighters has Kyo, and Guilty Gear has Sol Badguy. They’re not only the central characters of their respective series, but they’re also the heroes (although things get a little gray in terms of Kyo post-KOF98). Scorpion is more like Mitsurugi from SoulCalibur, who happens to be on most of the box covers despite being little more than a supporting character.
Not that Scorpion isn’t one of the best characters on the roster and isn’t a total badass, but he’s neither the main hero nor the main villain. He’s just the wildcard, smoldering in hellfire on the sidelines while reality hangs in the balance.

He was a terrorist, a police officer, and an undead soldier. With Kabal making his return in Mortal Kombat 11, we take a look at his past.
In 1995, Mortal Kombat was at the height of its popularity. Not only did was there a movie on the way, but Mortal Kombat 3 was also making its way into the arcades. How big a deal was Mortal Kombat 3? Big enough that it had its own commercial... For an arcade game! You simply did not do that. Ever.
The game featured classic characters, new characters, and old characters with redesigns. Mortal Kombat 3 also scrapped the palette-swapped male and female ninjas, instead giving us robot ninjas and a new look for Sub-Zero. This was the only one-on-one fighter Mortal Kombat game to not have Scorpion in it. While he’d make his return soon enough, in the meantime, he was to be replaced...

Now that Shane West has been confirmed as Bane for Gotham season 5, there’s no more room for debate as to whom Eduardo Dorrance may be. At first, it was assumed he’d wind up as King Snake, the brute’s father in the comics, but it’s important to stress how that guy’s first name was “Edmund,” not “Eduardo.” Basically, the producers of the show gave the iconic villain a full name to go along with their reinterpretation.
And though the creative minds behind the Batman prequel series have taken liberties with certain characters’ origins and such, much of the costuming has been pretty spot on. If you don’t believe me, please refer to past appearances made by Scarecrow, Mr. Freeze, Firefly, Professor Pyg and Solomon Grundy. I’d throw the Joker in there as well, but Jeremiah Valeska isn’t actually the true Clown Prince of Crime.
