Vicky Knight plays a nurse injured in a fire who falls in love with a patient in Sacha Polak’s sombre, thoughtful drama
Here is a tough drama of damaged lives which reunites director Sacha Polak with lead performer Vicky Knight, the star of her 2019 film Dirty God. Knight has spoken with courage about her own childhood experiences of being scarred in a pub fire in London and this film draws on her life, both in terms of her survivor’s story and her adult existence; like her character, she has worked in healthcare.
Knight plays Franky, a nurse haunted by memories of the blaze that injured her, and also by her unresolved feelings about her errant dad who ran out on the family when she was little. Franky falls in love with a troubled patient called Florence (Esmé Creed-Miles), who has tried to take her own life. Franky’s...

Exclusive: Irish filmmaker Alexandra McGuinness (She’s Missing) has set the film Lucia, about James Joyce’s daughter of the same name, as her next project, with Esme Creed-Miles (Amazon’s Hanna) signing on to star.
Lucia is billed as a dance drama with genre elements, with the story beginning in 1932 Paris. Lucia Joyce (Creed-Miles) is a brilliant modern dancer but lives in the shadow of her famous father, James Joyce. Determined to be recognized as an artist and person in her own right, she sets out to create the greatest and most original dance in the world. But can she do so without losing her mind?
McGuiness and her frequent collaborator Antonia Campbell-Hughes wrote the script. Conor Barry is producing for Savage Productions, with John Lang for Super Bloom Films. Screen Island provided development financing, with the Creative Europe Programme – Media of the European Union offering additional support, and Des Hamilton handling casting.
Lucia is McGuinness’ third feature film. She previously directed She’s Missing, starring Eiza González, Josh Hartnett and Lucy Fry, which was released in 2019, and Lotus Eaters, starring Campbell-Hughes and Johnny Flynn, which premiered at Tribeca in 2011.
Miles is an English actress best known for her portrayal of the title character in Amazon’s Hanna, who will next feature in Travis Beacham’s podcast series Impact Winter and Amazon’s animated series, The Legend of Vox Machina.
Barry has two films premiering at SXSW: Campbell-Hughes’ directorial debut It Is In Us All, starring Cosmo Jarvis, and Brendan Muldowney’s horror pic The Cellar. Lang’s most recent producorial effort, Spree, directed by Eugene Kotlyarenko and starring Joe Keery, premiered at Sundance in 2020.
McGuinness is represented by Neon Kite and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller; Creed-Miles by Conway van Gelder Grant (UK), WME and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern; and Campbell-Hughes by United Agents (UK) and attorneys Jodi Peikoff and Michael H. Mahan.

Standing out in the TV landscape has been a challenge that has kept countless execs and creators up at night over the years. So in today’s small-screen climate of limitless choices, limited runs and sky’s-the-limit ideas, the population of audience-grabbing A-listers has inevitably swelled. As with any good all-you-can-consume menu, however, appealing to a wider variety of tastes through diverse talent and unique concepts with specific voices is emerging as a critical component in attracting — and retaining — an audience. As a result, the number of relative newcomers in leading roles has also increased, especially in this year’s lead actress race.

Amazon has renewed “Hannah” for a second season, the company announced in a tweet on Thursday.
Esme Creed-Miles stars in the adaptation of Joe Wright’s 2011 film alongside “The Killing” duo Joel Kinnaman and Mireille Enos.
The series centers on the 15-year-old Hanna (Creed-Miles), who has spent her entire young life in total seclusion in the remote woods of Eastern Europe, training to fight those who hunt her and her mercenary father, Erik Heller (Kinnaman). Her survivalist skills are finally tested when she and Erik are separated upon their discovery by a rogue CIA operative, Marissa Wiegler (Enos) and her team of agents.

Hanna's journey is over, but it's also just beginning.
On Hanna Season 1 Episode 8, she came full circle in how she viewed Erik as the two of them made their final stand together against Utrex.
Everything that she learned from the man who raised her and all the other experiences she had along the way when their isolated life was interrupted is the foundation she'll use in her new life with Cara/Girl 249.
The story of Hanna and Erik is one that will stick with me for a long time. It was perhaps the most complex and beautiful father and daughter relationships I've ever witnessed on a television series.

Hanna continues to kick ass, and I'm not just talking about the show itself.
Doesn't it seem as if Hanna's skills are improving even without additional training?
On Hanna Season 1 Episode 7, Erik and Hanna have a heartfelt conversation about her past and her future, but Hanna isn't ready to let Erik go just yet.
I love Erik and Hanna's relationship so much it hurts.
When they said their goodbyes, it was almost unbearable.

At that point, we didn't know what was going to happen at the end, but Erik didn't want to leave Hanna, and she didn't want to leave him.
He knew that she wouldn't be able to have a normal life if they stayed together. Sawyer, Marissa, and anyone else associated with Utrex would have hunted them forever.

Hanna reunited with her father on Hanna Season 1 Episode 6 after a daring escape that left both Marissa and Sawyer in the dust.
The biggest question is why Hanna didn't try to break free from Marissa's grasp before her father arrived.
She could have easily killed Marissa at any point during her time in Marissa's custody, but she even let Marissa go when she and her father fled in the helicopter.
It could be that she wasn't sure if even with Marissa gone harm wouldn't come to Sophie and her family.

Hanna doesn't know anything about Sawyer but knew that people were coming to take her back where she belonged.
Hanna is also still very curious about who she is, and Marissa was the one who promised her answers.
If Marissa died there would be no guarantee she'd ever find out the truth.

Amazon's thriller Hanna, based on the 2011 film of the same name, centers on a teenage girl (Esme Creed-Miles) raised by her father to be an assassin and chased by a shadowy spy organization. For fans of the AMC/Netflix series The Killing, it also marks the first time that stars Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman have worked together since the latter's 2014 finale.
The Emmy-nominated The Killing garnered a passionate fanbase who were particularly taken by Enos' thoughtful and reserved Sarah Linden and her streetwise partner, Stephen Holder (Kinnaman). Since then both have pursued other high-profile projects, including Enos' turn leading ...

The sparks flew between Hanna and Anton on Hanna Season 1 Episode 5 when they spotted each other across the room at the party.
Their attraction was instant.
The only problem for Hanna was that her Bff had a major crush on Anton, and in a girl's world that spells trouble.
Of course, Hanna didn't know the boy that caught her eye was Anton until Sophie introduced them, but it didn't stop Hanna from fast forwarding a relationship with him.

Fast moving or not, it was a beautiful and sweet experience for Hanna.
And, it was very well done. The campfire embers floating into the air as the heat rose between Hanna and Anton was magnificent.
Sophie had no clue what was transpiring between her Bff and her crush because she was passed out in the back of her van under Dan's watchful eye, and it was probably for the best.

The tension was thick on Hanna Season 1 Episode 4 when Hanna lashed out at her father and Marissa regained the upper hand.
I don't know about anyone else, but I was on the edge of my seat.
Hanna only knows a piece of the puzzle, but it was enough to turn her world upside down.
What she hasn't realized yet is that even though Erik isn't her biological father, he's still her father. And she doesn't know that he also saved her from a lifetime of misery.
Hanna's confusion and rage are understandable.
Any child would be upset if they learned their entire existence has been a lie.

Marissa might have been right when told Erik that Hanna deserved the truth, but Marissa was just trying to get in his head.
Erik knows that his involvement in Marissa's project to buy children for a secret experiment was the wrong choice,...
