Earlier today, "American Idol" announced that they were lowering their age limit to allow 15-year-olds to audition. Well that makes sense, since season nine's youngsters — Aaron Kelly, Haeley Vaughn and Katie Stevens — all exuded professionalism and mega-talent under pressure. (Rolls eyes.)
I don't mean to slam Aaron and Katie personally. In fact, both of those recent contestants have knocked my socks off post-"Idol." Aaron displayed some legitimate songwriting chops and Katie's vocals during the finale were as good — if not better — than her co-star Christina Aguilera. But during the competition, both of those contestants received criticisms from the judges that suggested they should have honed their craft and experienced life for a few more years before standing center stage in front of 30 million people. It's hard to get judged when you're 25, and it's a hundred times harder when you're a sensitive 15-year-old.

I imagine Tuesday night's (February 16) "American Idol" was a lot like watching Brangelina's vacation videos. On one hand, you think you should care because it's Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and their 14 children on a banana boat. But on the other hand, if you've seen one family vacation home video, you've seen them all. Nine seasons in, the final Hollyweek episodes are as old hat and predictable as an ensemble romantic comedy.
There just wasn't enough drama to sustain an hour of "Idol," let alone two. Yep, "Idol" decided last week that the Olympics were on and holy crap we need to do something desperate fans deserved an extra bonus hour of Hollywood week to help us get to know the Top 24 better.
Ironically, out of the seven names they revealed a day earlier than usual, only one was that of a contestant we hadn't seen that much of before.

Brooke White isn't receiving nearly enough love. Last night, for the second week in a row, Brooke gave the best female American Idol performance of the night and it wasn't close. If it wasn't for the buzzsaw that is David Archuleta, Brooke might be the presumptive favorite to win it all. Remember the lesson learned from Blake Lewis – creativity, ingenuity, and adaptability are incredibly important as the season goes on and on. Brooke has proved (like David Cook), in two weeks time, that she can take any genre of song and make it her own. Why am I focusing on Brooke White? Because she was the only interesting part of an otherwise boring broadcast. It's not that the ladies were terrible last night, it's that they chose terrible songs. It's hard to predict which ladies are going home tonight after last week's shocking eliminations. Will this week be more predictable?...
