Mark Rylance is on the verge of joining a new BBC Two drama about the life of Tudor Thomas Cromwell.
The Shakespearean actor, who initially turned down an offer to star in the six-part series due to other commitments, is expected to officially sign up next week, reports BBC News.
The show has been adapted from Hilary Mantel's bestselling novels Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies.
The 53-year-old stage star, who has featured in films including 2011's Blitz, last played a leading TV part in 2005 where he gave an award-winning performance as Dr David Kelly in Channel 4's The Government Inspector.
Peter Straughan, a co-author on 2011 movie Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, is adapting the books for the BBC.
The books' author Mantel is currently writing the third instalment in her Cromwell trilogy, to be entitled Mirror and the Light.
Plans for the BBC Two adaptation were first announced back in August.
