The sequel to 2022’s breakout horror hit Smile has entered production ahead of a release later this year. Here are soe new details about Smile Deluxe…
Smile Deluxe (love that title) has officially started production in Newburgh, New York. The follow-up to 2022’s Smile was virtually guaranteed when the first film came out of nowhere to become one of that year’s success stories, grossing almost $220m from a $17 production budget.
Considering that Paramount were considering simply putting the film straight onto its streaming platform, Smile’s incredible success became a key moment in that year’s shifting narrative regarding the value of theatrical runs for films of all shapes and sizes. Of course, that success also meant that a sequel was inevitable, and the project was fast-tracked into development with director Parker Finn returning to helm the next film in the series as part of a long-term deal he signed with Paramount.

Lucasfilm's Studio Showcase panel at this year's "Star Wars Celebrations" has revealed more details about Jon Watts and Chris Ford's upcoming live-action series, "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew." Lucasfilm executive producer Dave Filoni and "The Mandalorian" series creator Jon Favreau kicked off this segment by stating that Watts had pitched the idea for the show while Favreau was on the set of "Spider-Man: Far From Home" (!) which led to the creation of the galaxy-spanning adventure of "Skeleton Crew." The upcoming series has been described as "a story about a group of kids ... in the 'Star Wars' galaxy, who have a sense of wonder ... [and] go on an adventure. And star Jude Law is revealed to be a Jedi, as per the exclusive teaser trailer played at the end of the segment.

This post contains spoilers for "The Mandalorian" season 3, episode 1, "The Apostate."
In the same way Daniel Craig made a stealth cameo as a Stormtrooper in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," "The Mandalorian" has already featured more than one famous guest star who went unrecognizable because of costuming or makeup. This goes back to the series premiere when comedian and former "Saturday Night Live" cast member Horatio Sanz played Mando's first bounty, the blue alien Mythrol. The season 3 premiere also sneaks in "Sweet Tooth" star Nonso Anozie as the seaweed-headed pirate king, Gorian Shard. Even Din Djarin himself, voiced by Anozie's fellow "Game of Thrones" alum Pedro Pascal, spends most of the series under a helmet. The very removal of that helmet gets him excommunicated from the Way of the Mandalore, hence the episode title, "The Apostate."

This post contains spoilers for "The Mandalorian" season 3, episode 1 "The Apostate."
Seventeen chapters in, "The Mandalorian" continues to serve up plenty of classic film homages. The most overt one in the season 3 premiere, "Chapter 17: The Apostate," sees the torso of the assassin droid Ig-11 dragging itself across the floor while droning, "Terminate asset," in a clear homage to James Cameron's "The Terminator." However, "if I visit the planet and can bring you proof that I have bathed in the living waters beneath the mines of Mandalore," would you believe there's another homage to Sergio Leone's influential spaghetti westerns in this episode?
Since before "The Mandalorian" even premiered on Disney+ back in November 2019, we've been hearing that Pedro Pascal's title character was inspired by the Man with No Name, played by Clint Eastwood in Leone's Dollars Trilogy. In a panel at "Star Wars" Celebration in April 2019, where...

“Evil” is so much more than its one-word title suggests, but it almost defies description. It’s a creepy-as-hell, addictive blend of supernatural horror, character study, outrageous humor and subversive satire, with some raunchiness and profanity thrown in, presented with the trademark acerbic wit that we’ve come to expect from top-of-their-game hubby and wife creators Robert King and Michelle King.

The genre-bending drama is led by Katja Herbers as the skeptical Dr. Kristen Bouchard, Mike Colter as priest-in-training David Acosta and Aasif Mandvi as sardonic every-man Ben Shakir, who examine the origins of evil along the dividing line between science and religion. The dysfunctional trio investigate the Catholic Church’s backlog of unexplained mysteries, including supposed miracles, demonic possessions and hauntings. Their job is to assess if there is a logical explanation or if something truly supernatural is at work, often coming up against the devious Dr.

For seven seasons, The Good Wife was a cable drama dressed in broadcast procedural’s clothing. Each episode introduced one or more legal cases that would be resolved within the course of that hour, the better to be eaten by a weary audience at the end of a long (and often football-delayed) Sunday. But the show’s creators, Robert and Michelle King, gradually worked in the kind of serialized narratives and moral complexity more commonly found on HBO or Netflix than on CBS. When Julianna Margulies decided she didn’t...

If you watch supernatural cop show Sleepy Hollow on Fox (Universal in the UK), you will definitely know who Kristin Burke is. Her sartorial contribution to the first season has ingrained the series with a handsome, consistent, yet oddly plausible look. We say ‘oddly’ because the show is, for want of a better term, completely batshit crazy; a mix of 18th century drama and modern day X-Files, involving headless horsemen, a tree monster, deadly black vein disease, and all manner of creepy mythology based beasties. It’s terrific fun.
Kristin M. Burke is what we would politely call a veteran costume designer, over 50 films to her name, although not someone especially used to working in television. Her big screen credits include The Cooler, Running Scared, Paranormal Activity 2, Insidious, The Conjuring, and Insidious 2. Kudos for spotting the trend – there are several horror titles in that list. The genre it seems...
