Lionsgate has adjusted release dates for such high-profile titles as The Crow and Saw XI ahead of the company’s CinemaCon presentation.
The Crow is set for release on Aug. 23 after having previously been dated for June 7. Rupert Sanders’ feature reboot that stars Bill Skarsgard will now compete on that weekend with Amazon MGM Studios’ thriller Blink Twice and Sony Pictures’ faith-based The Forge.
Lionsgate has also moved Saw XI to Sept. 26, 2025, from its previously planned release on Sept. 27, 2024. The franchise is giving a bit of space to the new film after the success of its critically praised Saw X, which hit theaters in September and surpassed $110 million globally.
Never Let Go, Alexandre Aja’s psychological feature that stars Halle Berry, Percy Daggs and Anthony B. Jenkins, is now set for release on Saw XI’s former date of Sept. 27, 2024. Previously undated, the movie focuses on a mother and her twin sons,...

Night Court is preparing to host a Big Bang Theory reunion as Kunal Nayyar is set to guest alongside former costar Melissa Rauch, who leads the NBC comedy as Abby. According to TV Line, Nayyar will play a “world-renowned” fashion designer named Martini Toddwallis, who is struggling with finding inspiration for his work — until he meets Abby. In other words, could romance be brewing between the two? Only time will tell. Nayyar’s guest-starring role is slated for the episode airing on February 6. (Credit: Nicole Weingart/NBC) As viewers will recall, Abby’s been single for a little while after breaking things off with her long-distance boyfriend Rand (played by the comedic Pete Holmes) at the end of Night Court‘s first season, setting the perfect stage for a romantic opportunity in her future. It would certainly be a new way to see Nayyar and Rauch onscreen as the pair...

In the TV Insider exclusive clip above, new court clerk Wyatt Shaw tries to get Abby to get to the root of her newfound pickle obsession. “Is there a chance this isn’t about pickles?” he asks. “Maybe you’re feeling a little weird because your ex is seeing someone and you’re not? Are you on any dating apps?” “Almost. I’m still fine-tuning my profile,” Abby responds. “Like, what picture do I go with? Strong and sexy? Girl next door? Dan wants her to ask him to stay.” But Abby “doesn’t want to get in the way of his happiness,” or his new job. Will order in this court be restored? Ryan Beck, a fellow comic and close friend of DeForest’s, organized a GoFundMe amid the late comedian’s hospitalization. In the most recent update, Beck noted that DeForest’s final moments “included some of his favorite songs, stories of his childhood,...

Review: In the sub-genre of body swap movies, very few films stand out as quality films. The concept itself is ridiculous and silly and tends to aim more toward family-friendly fare like Freaky Friday and 13 Going On 30. Still, even those movies benefitted from some personality and edge that helped them earn some originality, a quality sorely lacking in Netflix’s new Christmas-themed comedy Family Switch. With slightly over an hours running time, “Pete Holmes: This Is Not for Everyone,” is a comedy special that will make, if not everybody, the many, laugh. Holmes has a way of cracking jokes at quotidian anecdotes mostly using himself as the subject (and iPhones as analogies), and does what most good comedians do, observe some of life’s absurdities and truths, and bring them to the fore without being too clownish, and simply using his naturalness.
A “staunch” defender of body-positivity…. In his own way. He lists the advantages of having “soft” rather than “hard” trimmed body. Followed by a humorous recount of a devilish gathering in the Midwest, his mother’s misfiring voicemail, the ordeals of growing old, and sitting through unending Youtube video intros.
A “good wholesome pal”, who will simply relay his thoughts in his self-deprecating manner, with a sincerity about mundane things that many will be able to relate to.

Pete Holmes has lined up his next comedy special, dropping Tuesday on Netflix.

Last year, Anna Kendrick starred in Mary Nighy’s disquieting drama of abuse Alice, Darling. The actress played a woman undone by her partner’s psychological manipulations, pulling from her own experiences in an abusive relationship to shape the character. Her performance — sensitive, gripping — sustained the film’s atmosphere of dread.
In Woman of the Hour, Kendrick builds on the work she started in Alice, Darling — but now she is also behind the camera for this unnerving dramatization of serial killer Rodney Alcala’s appearance on a dating game show while in the midst of his murder spree. Woman of the Hour, which premiered at TIFF before its Netflix acquisition, is an ambitious attempt to subvert true-crime genre expectations by giving voice to the survivors and victims of Alcala’s rampage.
The film experiments with time jumps and perspective shifts to create an impressionistic portrait of the murders. Its action kicks off in 1977 with Rodney,...

Almost every woman has a story: A stranger who followed her through a parking garage. A cab driver who asked uncomfortably personal questions. A date who became frighteningly obsessive. A friend who wouldn’t take no for an answer. The frightening banality of these events is the engine that drives “Woman of the Hour,” the directorial debut from actress Anna Kendrick.
Based on the true story of serial killer Rodney Alcala — who was convicted in 1980 for the murders of seven women and girls, but is suspected of killing more than 100 — “Woman of the Hour” is a more mainstream study of the tension between heterosexual desire and implied violence also evoked in Jane Campion’s “In the Cut.” Unlike that film, however, “Woman of the Hour” leaves the erotics of this dilemma unexplored from the female point of view. The women in this film are not trying to square their attraction...

The logline of a serial killer and rapist taking part in a television dating game show sounds like a high-concept pitch so fabricated it couldn’t possibly be founded in any veracity. Yet, in 1979, Rodney Alcala––whose victims are believed to be as many as 130––was a bachelor on The Dating Game. For her directorial debut, Anna Kendrick expands the 30 minutes of airtime into an inquiry of misogyny and the everyday silencing of women, exploring both Alcala’s shocking murders and the story of a fledging actress hoping for a big break. With a careful threading of humor and horror, it’s an ambitious, slightly strained gamble that Kendrick mostly manages with a formally precise vision and script that doesn’t rely on platitudes.

For her directorial debut, Anna Kendrick chose a particularly daunting task in tackling the story of the notorious serial killer Rodney Alcala, who staged a terrifying murder spree in the ’70s in which he is thought to have killed upwards of 130 people. The center of Kendrick’s movie, Woman of the Hour, focuses on his appearance in plain sight on a 1978 episode of ABC’s The Dating Game, in which he was the bachelor that contestant Cheryl Bradshaw wound up choosing to go on a date with, not knowing that this was a period in the middle of his murderous spree.
ABC’s 20/20 devoted a full hour in May 2021 to the story of the cold-blooded killer who died in incarceration, but Kendrick’s film version has more on its mind that just the facts. It had its world premiere Friday as a Special Presentation at the Toronto Film Festival.

Exclusive: Mina Lefevre, who was Head of Development and Programming at Meta, is departing Facebook’s parent company.
Lefevre, who was formerly EVP and Head of Scripted at MTV, is exiting as part of the latest round of layoffs at the Mark Zuckerberg-run company, which has seen more than 20,000 employees leave.
The departure comes amid a pivot for Facebook, which already had scaled back its original programming efforts since the days of scripted series such as Elizabeth Olsen-fronted Sorry For Your Loss and Sacred Lies, shepherded by Lefevre.
None of the remaining Fb Watch Originals, most notably Red Table Talk, are coming back for new seasons as the company is getting out of that business, shifting its focus on creating VR experiences in Meta Horizon Worlds that can also be deployed across Facebook, Instagram and Messenger. There is humor in subverting expectations, but Night Court Season 1 Episode 13 shoots itself in the foot when they shelve Abby's characteristic optimism in favor of fear-driven heroics.
Of course, she fears for the well-being of her courthouse friends, and her goal is altruistic, but for Dan to champion having faith in people's ability to change for the better (even facetiously) while Abby believes the worst is beyond my ability to suspend my disbelief.
As the narrative is light on big laughs, with only the most basic effort to give the cast material to work with, I believe the entire point is to reveal Neil's crush on Abby to our clueless Judge Stone.
So many of Abby's choices here seem out of keeping with the character we've gotten to know.
From reviewing files while on a personal vid-call to seeking out random past crime victims to crashing an investment soiree, Abby appears to have been body-snatched.

There are times when the episodic nature of sitcoms contradicts the expected continuity in their narrative.
Case in point, Night Court Season 1 Episode 10 continues the thread of Neil's crush on Abby established on Night Court Season 1 Episode 8 but reverses the gains Abby and Olivia made on Night Court Season 1 Episode 7.
Meanwhile, Dan's sentimentality over the bench pushes Gurgs's scheming buttons, introducing a new potentially recurring character, Bert, the gator-owning head of maintenance.
Fun fact: the production number for "Train Court" (Night Court Season 1 Episode 7) indicates that episode was filmed after this one, which may explain the de-evolution of Abby and Olivia's relationship.
The show's airing order hasn't followed the production order beyond the premiere where Night Court Season 1 Episode 1 and Night Court Season 1 Episode 2 were broadcast, but this is the first instance where the narrative has clearly been jumbled.
If they'd aired in the order they filmed, Abby's thirsty need...

Ted Lasso fans have a little bit more to wait for the big Season 3 premiere, which will be this spring, Apple TV+ announced at TCA.

In the Season 2 finale, Nathan unleashed all his built-up disappointments and frustrations after telling the media about Ted’s panic attacks in a power play. He then left Richmond to coach West Ham for Rupert (Head). Ted appears to not be holding a grudge but the duo may still have some work to do together to get past those resentments.

A revival of the original series created by Reinhold Weege, the multi-camera Night Court centers on unapologetic optimist judge Abby Stone, the daughter of the late Harry Stone (originally played by Harry Anderson), who follows in her father’s footsteps as she presides over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court and tries to bring order to its crew of oddballs and cynics, most notably former night court prosecutor Dan Fielding, with John Larroquette reprising his role.

End-of-the-world Sci-fi went mainstream with a heavy message about human extinction in John Paxton’s all-star adaptation of Nevil Shute’s best seller. Always controversial and often derided as ‘glamorous obliteration chic,’ Stanley Kramer’s film plays better than ever. The possibility of Nuke Doom could be ignored back then, but we’ve since gained a more apocalyptic outlook. It’s got fine work from Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner and Fred Astaire, and only real Australians wince at the iffy accents. It’s also Kramer’s best-judged, best-directed movie overall. [Imprint’s] special edition includes an entire separate documentary feature, Fallout.

“I fidget when the pressure gets to be too much,” admits one of The 100,000 Pyramid‘s August 21 celebrity guests, Yvette Nicole Brown. “So if you see me squirming, I’m stressing! I really want the contestants to win!” The actress tries to keep her cool versus comedian Pete Holmes, while Boyz II Men’s Wanya Morris and comic Jo Koy also battle. (Credit: ABC/Christopher Willard) A childhood fan of “wonderful” game shows like To Tell the Truth, Wheel of Fortune, and Match Game, Brown got to play them as an adult. “Out of all of them, Pyramid was the one that required you to truly think on your feet—and quickly,” she says. “It’s a test of your will and your skill.” The 100,000 Pyramid, Sundays, 9/8c, ABC...
