Orange Is the New Black helped put Netflix on the map. Now, several of the supporting stars on the trailblazing prison dramedy are looking back on the show’s breakout and continued success to ask why they weren’t fairly compensated.
Their questions, coming as the Jenji Kohan-created series celebrates the 10-year anniversary of its July 11, 2013, premiere, surfaced in a New Yorker story published ahead of SAG-AFTRA announcing an actors strike after the union failed to reach a deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) group of studios and streamers. And many of the Oitnb castmembers’ woes reflect the issues at heart of the tense negotiations between SAG and the AMPTP.
Ten Oitnb recurring stars (some who were later upped to series regulars) — including Kimiko Glenn, Alysia Reiner, Beth Dover, Emma Myles, Diane Guerrero, Taryn Manning and Lea DeLaria — spoke with writer Michael Schulman about...

“Archive 81” will not receive a second season on Netflix, TheWrap has learned.
The series, from creator Rebecca Sonnenshine, starred Mamoudou Athie as video archivist Dan Turner, who was restoring tapes in the present, originally shot by Melody Pendras (Dina Shihabi) in 1994 at the mysterious Visser apartment building.
In different timelines, both Dan and Melody uncover disturbing secrets about a destructive, demon-worshipping cult.
The series, which costarred Martin Donovan, Evan Jonigkeit, Julia Chan, Ariana Neal and Matt McGorry, was loosely inspired by the podcast of the same name.
Sonnenshine created the series and served as showrunner and executive producer. James Wan and Michael Clear of Atomic Monster also executive produced with Rebecca Thomas, Antoine Douaihy and Paul Harris Boardman.
The series, which debuted in January, ended on a cliffhanger that left Dan’s fate up in the air.

‘Archive 81’ Star Dina Shihabi on That Family Secret, How Melody and Dan Could Connect in a Season 2
Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the finale of Netflix’s “Archive 81.”
Melody Pendras (Dina Shihabi) spends the majority of the first season of Netflix’s “Archive 81” separated from the show’s other key characters, given that the camcorder-toting Visser resident’s story takes place in the ’90s and her work is being studied in the present day by archivist Dan Turner (Mamoudou Athie).
But in the final moments of the “Archive 81” Season 1 finale, Melody becomes a literal blast from the past, as she is dragged through a portal from The Otherworld dimension she has been trapped in for decades by cult-leader Samuel (Evan Jonigkeit) and falls out in front of her long-lost mother, Julia Bennett/Bobbi (Jacqueline Antaramian), and Dan’s best friend, Mark (Matt McGorry). Samuel suspiciously doesn’t come through with her and Dan is nowhere to be seen,...

“The Witcher,” “Stay Close,” “Cobra Kai,” “Emily in Paris,” and “Manifest” all retained their dominion on Netflix’s English-language TV Top 10 list for the second full week of 2022, while the sixth season of makeover show “Queer Eye” fell through the cracks, leaving room for newcomers “Cheer” (Season 2) and “Archive 81” to join the ranks.
“Cheer” was No. 5 on the list with roughly 29.1 million hours viewed, and horror drama “Archive 81,” from showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine, landed in the seventh slot with 22.2 million hours viewed. The suspenseful series stars Dina Shihabi, Mamoudou Athie, Matt McGorry, Ariana Neal, Julia Chan, Evan Jonigkeit and Martin Donavan, and involves a deadly mystery involving a cult, arson and a disappeared director. “Stay Close,” the limited thriller series based on the Harlan Coben novel of the same name, climbed to the No. 1 spot with 53.72 million hours viewed.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the finale of Netflix’s “Archive 81.”
After eight episodes of slowly unraveling its cult-centric mysteries and building up its mold-laced mythology, Netflix’s “Archive 81” concluded its first season with a twist that flipped the tape over for a potential second season: Dan Turner (Mamoudou Athie) crossed into The Otherworld controlled by the demon/god Kaelego to rescue Melody Pendras (Dina Shihabi). On their way out, Dan was shoved back into the post-Visser-apartment-building-fire timeline in 1994 New York City, while Melody was dragged by cult-leader Samuel (Evan Jonigkeit) through the present-day door Dan had entered.
And yes, Dan really has been blasted into the past, and is not trapped in The Otherworld being fooled with another one of Kaelego’s close-enough-to-reality fantasies, according to “Archive 81” showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine.

When it comes to living in New York City, few things are as scary as real estate. But in Netflix’s “Archive 81,” premiering January 14 on the streamer, it’s not the rent or the rodents that terrify. It’s “pioneers of the imagination,” according to the trailer.
At least, that’s the impression given in the series’ first trailer. Based on the three-season podcast of the same name, the upcoming horror thriller finds a video archivist Dan (Mamoudou Athie) attempting to restore VHS tapes damaged in a fire. And as everyone from “The Ring” to “V/H/S/” knows, there’s nothing more frightening than what lies on analog.
Sure enough, Dan is able to restore some tapes just enough to become enmeshed in documentarian Melody’s 1994 exploration of a NYC apartment building, where some very strange things are happening, including mask-wearing, modern dance, and some very scary tenant meetings. Not...

Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for the upcoming horror series “Archive 81,” which draws upon nostalgia for the videotape era of the 1990s to weave a chilling tale that plays out across dual timelines.
Loosely inspired by the podcast of the same name, “Archive 81” begins in present day with a character named Dan (Mamoudou Athie) being hired by a shadowy organization to restore video tapes that were damaged in a fire 25 years ago. As Dan restores the tapes in a remote location (“for his security” he’s assured), he witnesses the story of a woman named Melody (Dina Shihabi) who begins videotaping residents of an odd apartment building to create an oral history, only to discover something incredibly strange about the building and its inhabitants.

After the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday night denied a request to issue emergency relief blocking Texas’ new law that bans abortion at six weeks and, say opponents, effectively eliminates access to abortions statewide, some big names in entertainment expressed their opinions about the legislation.

On June 3, Deadline published an article that included first-hand accounts of the protest that occurred in the Fairfax district of Los Angeles on May 30. That article included firsthand accounts from protesters who said things turned violent when police officers began getting physically aggressive with the crowd.
Now, video footage originally taken by How to Get Away with Murder actor Matt McGorry on the day of the protest has been posted online showing LAPD officers using billy clubs to strike protestors who clearly have their hands up. The footage corroborates what the protestors said they witnessed and experienced.
In the video, we can see protestors standing while LAPD officers approach them. The scene takes a turn for the worse when one of the officers starts hitting the protestors with his baton and others follow. In addition, shots are fired but it is unclear whether the ammunition is rubber bullets, with which...

Viola Davis has accrued four Emmy nominations in Best Drama Actress for her portrayal of Annalise Keating on ABC’s “How to Get Away With Murder” — of which her first translated into a win — and one in Best Drama Guest Actress (2018) for bringing Annalise to “Scandal.” On May 14, “Murder” ended its six-season run with “Stay” — or as I prefer to call it, the episode that will help Davis get away with her sixth Emmy bid.
Since the finale, Davis has moved up from 10th to seventh place in our combined odds, where, as of this writing, she trails Olivia Colman (“The Crown”), Laura Linney (“Ozark”), Jennifer Aniston (“The Morning Show”), Jodie Comer (“Killing Eve”), Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) and Nicole Kidman (“Big Little Lies”). Among those forecasting a nomination are Gold Derby editors Chris Beachum, Marcus James Dixon and Zach Laws; Emmy experts Thelma Adams (Gold Derby), Tim Gray...

The How to Get Away With Murder series finale hasn't even aired yet and deleted scenes are already here! Creator Pete Nowalk shared the first yesterday, which served as Matt McGorry's final scene in the series (via dream sequence), and we've got the second one today! In the scene, Laurel visits her father and asks him to testify against the governor in Annalise's trial, and he does not seem all that interested. "Why would I ever do anything for you Laurel?" I don't know, maybe to make up for ordering Wes killed and trying to steal custody of her baby and a million other things this man has done? But Laurel uses a different tactic. "Because...

The road to “How to Get Away with Murder” is lined with dead bodies. Twenty-eight to be exact. Over the years, the series showed that there’s no shortage of ways to die. Suicide, poison, overdose, suffocation — you name it.
The most shocking deaths, of course, are the “anchors”: In the season’s first half, each episode reveals a new detail about the murder while the second half reveals how they covered it up. But there are a few others that stand out, as well.
In the first season, for example, Lila Stangard (Megan West) was done in by Frank (Charlie Weber), a proxy of Sam (Tom Verica) in a way that actually made the “cheating husband kills his pregnant girlfriend” schtick interesting. In the second season, Rebecca Sutter (Katie Findlay) was also killed, delighting audiences due to seeing a calm, murderous side to Bonnie (Liza Weil). And then,...

Uncorked is described as "a hilarious and touching drama about a father and son who have to finally learn to listen to one another." This looks damn good! Yes it's yet another story about, as he literally says in the trailer, choosing between your dreams or your family, but there's so much earnestness and heart. And I love Mamoudou Athie, one...

Ausiello: It appears Audra MacDonald’s Liz will once again be dipping her pen in Reddick, Boseman & Lockhart ink when, come Season 4, she takes a shine to a hot, articulate and charming attorney who is being cast as we speak. This new character also has a military background so I think we can safely add “ripped to within an inch of his life” to his list of attributes.
