Beijing, Aug 12 (Ians) The Chinese Athletics Association has named a roster of 41 athletes for the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary this month.
Gong Lijiao, 34, will be seeking her 3rd world title for women’s shot put in her ninth world championships while Liu Shiying aims for her first worlds title in the javelin throw, reports Xinhua.
The Olympic champion duo will be joined by teammates including men’s long jump reigning champion Wang Jianan, defending champion in women’s discus throw Feng Bin and the bronze medalist at Tokyo Liu Hong.
The 2023 World Athletics Championships will feature 49 medal events. More than 2,100 athletes from over 200 teams will compete at Hungary’s new National Athletics Centre between August 19-27.

Taking place at Brisbane’s City Hall, this year’s ceremony saw Nuri Bilge Ceylan scooping his third Apsa for Achievement in Directing for Winter Sleep, while Cliff Curtis (The Dark Horse) and Lü Zhong (Red Amnesia) won Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress, respectively.

Director Wayne Wang, best known for his adaptation of Amy Tan’s celebrated novel The Joy Luck Club, has kept himself at the forefront of Asian-oriented filmmakers even while making a variety of crowd-pleasing commercial films (Maid in Manhattan, Last Holiday). This collection of two of his latest films, both low-budget works shot on HD, is a great way to get acquainted with a unique filmmaker of considerable skill. Although the films vary in quality of both filmmaking and performance, there is no denying both pose interesting questions about Chinese or general Asian identity and their place in and outside of China.
