The latest issue of Metal Hammer magazine was already shaping up to be a special one, with Slipknot's Corey Taylor guest-editing the issue, but it became an absolute dream for metal and horror fans when Taylor asked The Walking Dead comic book artist Charlie Adlard to illustrate the cover and participate in an exclusive interview. We take a look at that cover (and the behind-the-scenes process of its creation) in our latest round-up, in addition to details on the feature film adaptation of Joe Kelly and Ken Niimura's I Kill Giants graphic novel and Arrow Video's impressive limited edition Blu-ray/DVD release of Society.
Charlie Adlard's Metal Hammer Magazine: "Charlie Adlard – acclaimed illustrator from the Walking Dead comics – has designed Metal Hammer magazine’s special gatefold front cover with Exclusive artwork of every member of Slipknot. Trust us, it looks badass.

Imagine you’ve just spent the Summer and 27 million quid of tax payers money staging an Olympic Opening Ceremony that looked like Leni Riefenstahl’s History of the Industrial Revolution.
You’ve built a Hobbit village in the centre of Stratford and filled it with peasants and sheep before Kenneth Branagh, looking like Abe Lincoln in the Electric Six “Gay Bar” video, rips apart the countryside and turns it into a factory from Mordor.
You’ve deployed an army of Mary Poppins impersonators to save a stadium full of sick kids from a stylised Jimmy Savile Child Catcher.
You’ve stuck a blow for gay rights across the globe and men who like watching pretty girls get off with each other by slipping Brookside’s infamous lesbian kiss into a montage of British TV clips broadcast uncensored in authoritarian, homophobic regimes across the Middle East and also the USA .
You...

Dick Valentine sounds like the kind of name you’d see featured in the credits of a blue movie. However, Dick Valentine is not a pornstar as his name suggests, he is something altogether more thrilling and stupendous. He is the frontman of the whimsical rock and roll band from Detroit, Electric Six.
Electric Six are back on the scene with a fresh new tour where they will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of their classic Fire album. Fire was the group’s breakthrough album, reaching #7 in the UK charts and was a commercial and critical triumph, featuring comedy injected hits ‘Danger! High Voltage’ and ‘Gaybar’. Not only are these tracks undeniably catchy, but they are accompanied by entertaining music videos courtesy of the humorous cinematic vision of directors Tom Kuntz and Mike Maguire. The album went gold in the September of 2003 and remains the most successful of their 7 subsequent studio albums.

Elijah Wood has signed on to star in Grand Piano, in which he sits down to play and discovers a message in the sheet music threatening his family. So it's basically speed for the classical music set.
Evangelist Billy Graham is coming out strong in favor of North Carolina's awful Amendment One, taking out ads in fourteen papers around the state in favor of writing discrimination into the state constitution.
A gay Indiana teen is facing expulsion for carrying a stun gun that his mother gave him to protect him from bullies. Towleroad has the video.
The Weinstein Company has acquired Quartet, about opera singers in a retirement home who stage a concert every year for the birthday of Verdi. The main draw to me is the cast - Maggie Smith, Billy Connolly, Michael Gambon and Pauline Collins, and directed by Dustin Hoffman.

Why is the video director for Cheryl Cole and Klaxons filming people dancing when drunk?
If you were making a reality show called The Only Way is Shoreditch, you would want to have aimed your camera at an innocuous white booth in Hoxton Square last month. Surrounded by the standard gaggle of east London hipsters, the luminous box, an interactive art installation by Saam Farahmand, became a scenester magnet over the course of two days.
A former Goldsmiths fine art graduate, Farahmand, at 32, is considered one of the most talented music video directors of his generation. According to Creative Review, with his "experimental approach and technical brilliance, you always know you're going to get something special".
So how do his videos come about? "Normally, you pitch to a [record] label and they choose the best one. I just work directly with artists now – but don't put that! It sounds arrogant." Farahmand...

A song which was a Us Top 5 hit in 1963 is threatening to pip this year’s X Factor to the Christmas Singles Number 1 post!
The Trashmen’s ‘Surfin Bird’, which features in satirical cartoon Family Guy has almost half-a-million Facebook fans campaigning to get it to the top of the UK singles charts this Christmas and bookies Paddy Power, who have installed the catchy tune at 5/1, insist it can be done!
Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power said: “Every year X Factor appears to have the Christmas Number One spot sewn up but last year proved that people are tiring of this. A ferocious online campaign saw Rage Against The Machine beat Joe McElderry to the top spot so it is possible! Surfin Bird is ridiculously catchy and if the campaign goes to plan it could quite easily be Number 1.”

Plus GLAAD honors Lee Daniels, The CW's cheerleading show, Gregg Araki goes Kaboom, and more Newsweek fallout.
First still from Lady Gaga's "Alejandro" video. Very Robert Palmer "Addicted to Love"
Desperate Housewives needed someone to spice up the proceedings, and when casting a beyotch, one can do far worse than Vanessa Williams. Personally, I want the storyline to have Wilhelmina moving to the suburbs for some unknown reason, just to keep Ugly Betty alive. Bryan Batt weighs in on the Newsweek controversy, referring to the "ridiculous and homophobic and self-loathing article that came out in Newsweek." The GLAAD Media Awards still have a stop to make in San Francisco June 5th, where they will honor Precious director Lee Daniels and Cybill Shepherd, with performances by Sam Sparro and newly out country singer Chely Wright. I've plugged geek comic HijiNKS Ensue before for their gay character, and today's strip casually...

The 2010 Los Angeles Film Festival is set to run June 17-27 in a brand new location. Oh, it’s still in L.A, but it’s moving across town, from Westwood — where it’s been held the past few years — all the way over to Downtown.
The main “hub” for the fest will be the new L.A. Live complex, but there will also be screenings at other locations, such as the Downtown Independent and Redcat theaters. The city is really trying to build downtown up into a major arts and culture hub, so the festival moving there fits in with that agenda. Film Independent, the organization that runs Laff, also runs the annual Independent Spirit Awards, an event that also moved downtown — from Santa Monica — this year.
On Bad Lit, I tend to like to put up festival lineups that include days and times of screenings. However, since I...

The answer is, I don’t really know. His girlfriend informed me that this wasn’t the first time he had littered in an act of protest against technology. Having recently gotten out of prison, perhaps he was still adjusting to life on the outside… and on the outside we were. We had just appointed our phone-chucking friend as the president of the autonomous Republic five of us had recently formed on a section of the aft deck of The Temptress while waiting to depart from the dock… perhaps the pressures of public office were already getting to him.
