It looks like the short run of Friends with Better Lives just got even shorter. CBS has decided to pull the already cancelled comedy from their schedule effective immediately.
Friends with Better Lives follows the lives of six young people who are at various stages of their lives -- married, divorced, newly engaged, and single -- with each wondering if the others have it better. The cast includes Majandra Delfino, Kevin Connolly, Brooklyn Decker, Rick Donald, Zoe Lister-Jones, and James Van Der Beek.
The network cancelled the show after five episodes had aired but it seemed like they planned to let all 13 installments run. Execs have now replaced future airings with reruns of Mom, a freshman sitcom that's been renewed for a second season.

Yesterday, CBS cancelled Friends with Better Lives after just five episodes. That's a pretty quick decision. The studio thinks it's too quick.
Friends with Better Lives revolves around six young people who are at various stages of their lives -- married, divorced, newly engaged, and single. Each wonders if the others have it better. The cast includes Majandra Delfino, Kevin Connolly, Brooklyn Decker, Rick Donald, Zoe Lister-Jones, and James Van Der Beek.
The sitcom premiered to positive numbers (following the series finale of How I Met Your Mother) but the ratings have fallen quite a bit in subsequent weeks.
The numbers were too low for CBS but 20th Century Fox Television, the studio that produces the show, has decided to try shopping the series elsewhere.
CBS will presumably air the rest of the original 13 episodes so...

CBS has introduced several new sitcoms this season. Some have done well in the ratings while others have not. How will Friends with Better Lives preform in the ratings? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned to find out.

Clearly, CBS hopes its newest “group of pals” sitcom may be able to fill the How I Met Your Mother-shaped hole in your heart. Why else would the network premiere Friends With Better Lives at 9 p.m. Monday night — right after Himym wraps up its final season, when all its loyal fans are at their most vulnerable?
But if Himym was, at heart, a Ted Mosby — kind, good-hearted, a soul-mate sort of show; hold on, I’ve got something in my eye – Fwbl is more of an early-period Barney Stinson. By that, I mean it’s crass, boorish, and,...

Right after one group of friends signs off, new friends will be introduced ... by a former writer-producer of "Friends," no less.
Immediately following the series finale of CBS' "How I Met Your Mother" Monday (Mar. 31), the network will debut the sitcom "Friends With Better Lives." The premise of longtime acquaintances in amusing situations -- mainly revolving around their differing relationship levels -- may seem familiar, but it's served up by a fresh ensemble cast merging established TV faces and relative newcomers.
Will (played by "Dawson's Creek" alum James Van Der Beek) is struggling to adjust after his recent divorce; Jules (actress-model Brooklyn Decker) is newly engaged to visibly amorous Lowell (Rick Donald); Kate (Zoe Lister-Jones, "Whitney") is a career-driven serial dater; and the married Bobby (Kevin Connolly, "Entourage") and Andi (Majandra Delfino, "Roswell") observe their friends' allegedly better lives somewhat enviously.

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the fourth announced today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on CBS.
The king of the networks easily remains in charge despite "Elementary" being their only fresh hit of last season's new shows. The network's line-up remains fairly stable with only a few key moves such as Thursday being expanded to include two hours of comedy programming, and "Hawaii Five-0" moving to Fridays.
Several other pilots didn't make the cut this week including the series sequel to the "Beverly Hills Cop" movies, a TV version of the comedy "Bad Teacher", the "NCIS" mobile spin-off "NCIS: Red," a procedural based on Leif G.W. Persson's literary homicide detective Everett Backstrom, the Frank Marshall-produced political thriller "The Ordained" about a priest turned lawyer trying to save his sister from assassination,...

CBS has given a series order to multi-camera comedy pilot Friends With Better Lives, which I hear CBS topper Les Moonves, who developed Friends back in his Warner Bros. days, had been hailing as a potential new incarnation of the blockbuster NBC comedy. With its setup as a young ensemble, Friends With Better Lives could certainly become a successor to CBS’ departing comedy How I Met Your Mother. Written by Dana Klein and directed by James Burrows, Friends With Better Lives revolves around a group of 30-something friends who each think the other has it better. I hear the series pickup deal came after 48 hours of intense negotiations, spearheaded by executive producer Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment. He is exec producing Friends with Klein for 20th Century Fox TV. The ensemble cast includes James Van Der Beek, Brooklyn Decker, Rick Donald, Kevin Connolly, Zoe Lister Jones, Majandra Delfino. For a few days there, things weren’t looking so hot for The Beek.
His new sitcom project Friends with Better Lives wasn’t given a series order by CBS last week along with the rest of the network’s picked-up comedy pilots. Coming after the cancellation of his ABC comedy Don’t Trust the B—, we were starting to think next season would be utterly Beek-free. But now there’s this news: CBS has given the pilot a series greenlight.
Friends with Better Lives stars James Van Der Beek as a gynecologist trying to recover from his soon-to-be ex-wife’s infidelity.

Don Groves is a Deadline contributor based in Sydney Yesterday, Deadline posted a Funny Or Die video made by American actor Brian Guest in response to the proliferation of Australian actors being cast in broadcast pilots this season. His “agent” tells him at one point in the video, “You’re doing great work, you’re just not Australian.” As Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva pointed out, this has been a sore topic for Hollywood talent agents and their American-born clients this season as the nets bet heavily on actors from Down Under. So what’s all the hubbub about? At least 23 Aussies have been cast in pilots this season, an unprecedented number. Some are unfamiliar commodoties Stateside like Luke Mitchell, Bob Morley, Chris Egan, Lincoln Lewis, Rick Donald and Luke Bracey, who were all regulars on the Seven network’s long-running TV soap Home And Away. Others are established names like Miranda Otto,...
