Wayward Pines, Season 1, Episode 6, “Choices”
Written by The Duffer Brothers and Brett Conrad
Directed by Jeff T. Thomas
Airs Thursdays at 9pm (Et) on Fox
After the events of “The Truth,” it’s understandable that the next installment of Wayward Pines would feel like the series was coming back down to earth. So much information was thrown at the viewer, and done so in a manner that exceeded all previous acting and directing efforts on the series, that it set a bar which successive episodes would continue to grasp at. As such, while “Choices” isn’t perfect, its flaws are ones that are largely forgivable because of the position it occupies in the series’ running order, rather than anything it does narratively or in terms of performance.
The main problem with “Choices” is that the bulk of the episode is a healthy dose of exposition. “The Truth” was similarly heavy on telling instead of showing,...

Microsoft made a pretty big announcement today about "Xbox: Originals," their own original programming launching in June. Only a few of the projects sound Dread-worthy, but one in particular caught our eye.
Before we get to that, though, here's a quick rundown of what else you should be on the lookout for from Xbox Entertainment Studios:
- Two Halo projects: Along with a live-action "Halo" television series based on the award-winning video game franchise executive produced by Steven Spielberg, we'll also see a Halo digital feature released later this year from 343 Industries and Scott Free Productions, which will be executive produced by Ridley Scott and Scott Free TV President David Zucker. Sergio Mimica-Gezzan ("Battlestar Galactica," "Heroes") will direct.
- “Humans”: A new drama co-produced with UK broadcaster Channel 4. Award-winning UK production company Kudos will produce the hour-long, eight-episode series, which will share a premiere broadcast window on the...

You knew it was only a matter of time. After Netflix scored with original programming like "Orange Is the New Black" and "Arrested Development," Amazon quickly jumped into the game -- and now Xbox is, too. Pretty soon, look forward to new shows from your microwave and blender. Xbox will launch Xbox: Originals this June with 12 projects. They will be available on Xbox 360, Xbox One, and other Microsoft devices, and, of course, the shows will offer "interactive capabilities." To prove they're not kidding around, Xbox Entertainment Studios has attracted names like Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott, who are attached to two separate scripted projects based on the “Halo” franchise. Because hey, you can never get enough "Halo." Other shows in production include an unscripted series about international street soccer, an original drama about robotic servants in a dystopian world, and a documentary about the search for discarded Atari games in...

The Killing, Season 3: Episode 7 – “Hope Kills”
Directed by Tricia Brock
Written by Brett Conrad
Airs Sunday nights at 9 on AMC
Anyone who stopped watching The Killing after the first two seasons is missing out on seeing the great ideas behind the show being executed well. In a recent podcast discussion about the new FX series The Bridge, Dan Fienberg rightfully pointed out that there was never anything wrong with the structure of The Killing or the choice to not solve the Larsen case at the end of the first season – it’s just that the story that was being told wasn’t good enough. In season three, the story of The Killing is hitting all the right marks as its three parallel stories are all playing off each other well.
Even though Hannibal tackled violence as a theme much better than The Killing ever has so far, it’s...

Exclusive: As part of FremantleMedia Enterprises’ efforts to beef up its scripted portfolio, the company has signed a first-look deal with film and TV producer Barry Josephson’s production company, Josephson Entertainment. As part of the deal, Josephson Entertainment has hired a TV development executive: Disney Channel’s Tia Maggini is joining as VP for Television. She will focus on developing new drama projects for U.S. cable networks and the global marketplace, working alongside Jeff Tahler, Fme’s Svp Global Content, and Tony Optican, Svp Scripted Programming for FremantleMedia North America. Josephson is already in business with Fremantle — the two are producing a couple of projects together, including sci-fi action drama The Dover Agenda, a sci-fi thriller from writer Brett Conrad (Sons Of Anarchy), which is in development at Syfy. “U.S. cable drama is now the most consistently compelling content anywhere on television,” said David Ellender, Global CEO of Fme.

We like the sound of this one. Writer Brett Conrad (The Vampire Diaries, Sons of Anarchy) has sold his script of sci-fi action drama The Dover Agenda to Syfy. The story is being developed into a 90-minute pilot, standard for Syfy, and will be executive produced by Barry Josephson (Bones) and produced by FremantleMedia.
Deadline first reported the news about the story of a man who is recruited by his future self to join a clandestine branch of military intelligence specializing in parapsychology and future tech. Well the “future tech” part was implied with the “recruited by his future self” part, but excellent!
We’ll keep you posted.
