Everywhere you look these days there are over-the-top horror movies, but the torture-porn genre of the “Saw” films — homicidal mutilation served up as a “game,” with life lessons thrown in — is more or less limited to the “Saw” franchise. There haven’t been too many knockoffs of it. “Soul Mates,” however, has been unabashedly made in the carnival-of-ick mode of “Saw.” It even opens with two characters in handcuffs, wondering how they got to the dungeon in which they’re about to be toyed with like human lab rats.
Allison (Annie Ilonzeh) and Jason (Charlie Weber) wake up in the same bed, with metal bracelets on their wrists and a three-foot-long chain linking them together. For a moment there’s a dear-God-wtf-did-i-do-last-night? vibe, but these two have, in fact, never met. At first she thinks he’s a predator who has kidnapped her, and she uses a lamp to fend him off.

In the cinematic realm where storytelling prowess is essential, Ruined, directed by Tamara Bass and penned by Michelle Valentine, stumbles as it attempts to traverse the convoluted terrain of love, revenge, and suspense. Despite its promising premise, the film falls flat, leaving viewers with an unsatisfying aftertaste due to lackluster performances, uninspiring chemistry, and a failure to adequately delve into the characters’ motivations. The film takes audiences on a tumultuous journey through the lives of Landon and Olivia Richards, a couple whose marriage and individual dreams are entangled in a web of worldly aspirations, secrets, heartache, and the chilling intentions of a vengeful specter.
The crux of the film revolves around Liv and Landon Richards, portrayed by Annie Ilonzeh and Chris Warren, respectively. Landon embodies the quintessence of success as an accomplished Ob-gyn, steering his own medical practice that especially caters to black women. Despite this, however, he desperately wants...

Pandemic-themed horror movies have started coming out three years after Covid-19 made the earth stand still as millions died from a horrible virus. Now, Deon Taylor’s horror film Fear uses the panic in people’s minds during 2020 as the backdrop for his film, where a group of friends arrives at a lodge only to realize there’s something severely wrong here. Starring an ensemble cast including Joseph Sikora, King Back, T.I., Annie Ilonzeh, and Terrence J., among others, the movie tries to exploit people’s worst fears against them. To be honest, though, the movie is bad. It’s choppy, replete with poor editing and bad direction, and the story goes every which way, making for a bad and unsatisfactory watch. By the end of the 100-odd minutes, you’ll be wishing you didn’t sit down for this.

The horror genre today has largely tried to keep the current reality off the screen, but some filmmakers would rather comment on what’s going on in the real world. For instance, Deon Taylor’s Fear — originally titled Don’t Fear and shot back in 2020 — is the latest movie to not only be set during the Pandemic, it’s also about the anxieties incurred from living in these trying times. In this punctual tale, Bianca (Annie Ilonzeh) jumps at the chance to get away from everything when her longtime boyfriend, Rom (Joseph Sikora), whisks her away to Strawberry Lodge. And after taking all the proper Covid related precautions, their closest friends join them at this foreboding getaway.
What should have been a belated celebration of Bianca’s birthday — and maybe an engagement if Rom can work up the nerve — quickly turns into a life-or-death situation. Rom picked this historic venue for a certain reason,...

Plot: A much-needed getaway and celebration weekend becomes a nightmare due to a contagious airborne threat.
Review: Fear is universal, and it’s prevalent in nearly every horror movie since the dawn of cinema. Whether it’s a monster feeding off a victim’s fear to grow stronger or to make their meal tastier, it’s an element that’s been the center of many stories. So it’s great to see a film take so many everyday fears like drowning and claustrophobia and see them amplified by the supernatural. Because if there’s one thing the viewer can understand quickly, it’s fear.
Fear is one of the first movies filmed in 2020 after Covid upended the world. And this is in every bit of the film’s DNA. There’s an airborne contagion; the world seems to end, and they’re paranoid of each other. Sound familiar? While it...

"It's playing backwards…" What does it mean when a record plays backwards, oh no?! Hidden Empire has revealed a second official trailer for Fear, releasing in theaters in just a few more weeks. This one looks like it's worth skipping. A new film made by director Deon Taylor, best known for his films The Intruder, Fatale, and Black and Blue. A year into living through a worldwide pandemic, a small group of friends gather in the remote Tahoe Mountains to stay at the "Historic Strawberry Lodge". But celebration turns to terror as one by one each guest faces their own worst fear. The horror movie stars Joseph Sikora, T.I., King Bach, Terrence J, Ruby Modine, Annie Ilonzeh, Iddo Goldberg, and Jessica Allain. This looks instantly forgettable and annoyingly derivative. They even had to stuff the trailer with a bunch of boring "evil" quotes. ›››

"We're next..." "Well, get ready." Saban Films has released an official trailer for an action thriller film titled Agent Game, another one of these direct-to-video-esque action movies they're churning out dime-a-dozen of these days. A CIA officer finds himself the target of a rendition operation after being scapegoated for the death of an interrogation subject. As the team tasked to bring the officer in begins to question their orders — and each other — Olsen, a senior intelligence officer, and his subordinate raise the stakes. The impressive ensemble cast includes Dermot Mulroney, Adan Canto, Katie Cassidy, Annie Ilonzeh, Rhys Coiro, Barkhad Abdi, with Jason Isaacs and Mel Gibson. I don't have much to say about these action films - they all look the same, they all seem extra redundant and dull. It's almost as if the plot doesn't even matter. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Grant S. Johnson's Agent Game,...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched the “Two Hundred” episode of “Chicago Fire.”
After blazing a trail on NBC’s “Chicago Fire” for almost a decade, Aussie actor Jesse Spencer has exited the Wolf Entertainment action-drama during the popular show’s milestone 200th episode aptly titled “Two Hundred.” During the episode, his character Matthew Casey makes a “life-altering decision” to move to Oregon with a three-year commitment, which leads to him being written off of the series.
“Chicago Fire” executive producer Derek Haas spoke to the press the Monday before the episode’s premiere to confirm Spencer’s exit in advance, noting that he had “bittersweet feelings — or just bitter feelings” about the actor’s departure from the series. Haas thanked Spencer for “years of amazing friendship and service and acting and making the show credible,” and acknowledged that although he personally thought the episode turned out well,...

Exclusive: NBC has opted not to proceed with its drama pilot Getaway. Headlined by Annie Ilonzeh, it starred two leads of recently canceled broadcast series that have since been resurrected, Manifest’s Matt Long and All Rise‘s Marg Helgenberger. Both actors are now available to do other shows, including their old ones, which both have been picked up for 20 episodes. Meanwhile, NBC’s other drama pilot, Dangerous Moms, remains in contention.
I hear Long is in talks about rejoining Manifest as a series regular though it is unclear if a deal will be reached. The missing plane drama was picked up for a fourth season by Netflix in August following its cancellation by NBC.
“I will be back for some of it, we’re just trying to find out the maximum I can do,” Long said backstage at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards last month when he was still attached to Getaway.

Matt Long, Marg Helgenberger, Jasmine Mathews (The Rookie, Sweetbitter) and E.J. Bonilla (Bull, Unforgettable) are the latest additions to Getaway, NBC‘s drama pilot about a destination wedding gone very wrong.
Hailing from The Blacklist EPs John Davis and John Fox and writers JJ Bailey and Moira Kirland, Getaway follows a destination wedding at an isolated luxury resort that quickly spirals into chaos when a group of dangerous criminals takes the island hostage. The small RSVP list of guests, led by a fearless female Army vet (Chicago Fire‘s Annie Ilonzeh), in turn do everything they can to stay alive.

Manifest was grounded for good earlier this year, and one of its stars is moving on.
According to Deadline, Matt Long has joined the cast of NBC pilot Getaway, from The Blacklist duo John Davis and John Fox.
Long joins a cast that includes Marg Helgenberger (CSI), Jasmine Mathews (The Rookie) and E.J. Bonilla (The Old Man), and Annie Ilonzeh (Chicago Fire).
All of the stars are set as series regulars, with one-year-deals, according to the outlet.
Long was reportedly approached to join the series when talks with Netflix for a revival of Manifest fell through with production company Warner Bros. TV group.
In recent days, however, both Netflix and NBC have restarted negotiations to potentially bring the series back from the dead.
Manifest catapulted to the top spot in the Nielsen streaming charts shortly after touching down on Netflix, amassing 2.5 billion minutes viewed its first week and 2 billion its second week.

‘Manifest’s Matt Long, Marg Helgenberger, Jasmine Mathews & E.J. Bonilla Cast In ‘Getaway’ NBC Pilot
Amid talks about a new season of Manifest, one of the canceled NBC series’ core cast members, Matt Long, has booked a new pilot at the network but fans of the missing plane drama should not be too worried about it. Long, CSI alumna Marg Helgenberger, Jasmine Mathews (The Rookie) and E.J. Bonilla (The Old Man) are set as series regulars opposite Annie Ilonzeh in NBC drama pilot Getaway, from The Blacklist duo John Davis and John Fox and Universal TV, a division of Universal Studios Group.

Annie Ilonzeh is set as the lead in NBC drama pilot Getaway, from The Blacklist duo John Davis and John Fox and Universal TV, a division of Universal Studios Group.
Written and executive produced by JJ Bailey (Echo) and Moira Kirland (Madam Secretary), Getaway centers on a destination wedding at an isolated luxury resort that quickly descends into chaos after a group of dangerous criminals takes the island hostage. The small group of guests, led by a fearless female Army vet (Ilonzeh), will do everything they can to stay alive.
Ilonzeh’s Tessa Carrillo is a physically tough Army medical vet who at 18 put her career dreams on hold after her parents died to take care of her younger sister, Grace. Although the siblings are now on different paths, with Grace marrying a political scion, Tessa is attending her wedding in the hopes she can relax and reconnect with her sister.

Chicago Fire is saying goodbye to another paramedic.
Chicago Fire Season 9 Episode 9 said goodbye to its newest medic, Gianna Mackey, but was it for real?
Adriyan Rae joined the cast as a series regular for Chicago Fire Season 9, leading to some fans questioning whether the actress would be back.
If you watch Chicago Fire online, you know Mackey was given the opportunity to work at another firehouse, which would give her the means to advance in her career.
That, coupled with the fact that she was struggling to work because she worried about Cruz on calls. It was quite the twist, but is Rae out of the series?
“Adriyan let us know she had some private reasons to leave Chicago,” showrunner Derek Haas explained to EW.com, confirming the actress was exiting.
