We're sticking with the summer camp theme for the latest installment in our ongoing slasher series; last week we visited the 1981 cult fave The Burning (which is about to receive glorious Blu-ray treatment; check out the details here), and today we're headed back to the forest to face another mangled maniac – this time the undead redneck behemoth known as “Madman Marz” – the title nemesis of Madman, released one year after The Burning at the peak of the slasher cycle. Conceived by producer Gary Sales and director Joe Giannone, Madman is actually loosely based on the same urban myth that inspired The Burning: the story of “Cropsey,” an inhuman killer who – as many a campfire tale would have it – stalks New York's Staten Island, seeking symbolic revenge for his own death and/or disfigurement. The spirit of Halloween arrives every month in Hack/Slash. Costumed characters straight out of an 80’s horror flick do battle with a sexy but confused babe named Cassie Hack and her ugly monster man sidekick, Vlad. It’s fun, especially when you grab a candy bar and turn the lights out for some candles and a spooky Vincent Price CD. Okay, I’m getting into the Halloween spirit a little too much here for a comic book, but you have to admit, if you love October 31st like I do, then this might not be a bad idea. Just don’t smash pumpkins every month.

According to Comic Monsters, Bryan Baugh, the artist and creator of Viper Comics' Wulf and Batsy, is reportedly illustrating two issues of the horror comic juggernaut Hack/Slash. Baugh previously illustrated the cover to Hack/Slash #3. As a horror artist, we think he's a pretty smart choice. His work on Wulf and Batsy has been interesting and vividly drawn, chronicling the adventures of a huge werewolf and petite vampiress. You can check out more of his work on his personal site , and keep an eye out for more info on those two new issues.
