Exclusive: Brian Volk-Weiss’ Nacelle Company on Wednesday announced Billy Corgan’s Adventures in Carnyland, an eight-episode unscripted series that’s set to premiere on The CW app and cwtv.com on May 14th.
Directed by Volk-Weis and Ian Roumain, the series pulls back the curtain on how the legendary frontman of alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins takes on the world. When he isn’t churning out albums and touring the world with his band, Corgan works as a wrestling promoter through his storied National Wrestling Alliance, which he intends to restore to its former glory. As if being a rock star navigating the demanding politics of running both a band (Pumpkinworld) and a group of eccentric wrestlers (Carnyland) isn’t tricky enough, he’s also a father of two — and he’s planning a wedding to his longtime partner, Chloe Mendel. Can he possibly keep all these balls in the air?...

Netflix has greenlit a six-episode dark comedy series from Tom Segura.
Per the official description, the currently untitled series “centers on Segura, who also serves as the show’s narrator, as he takes us through each episode in a series of vignettes. The twisted comedic sensibility of Tom’s standup is the core DNA of this series, where every story will unfold in a hilariously disturbing way only he could imagine.”
Segura wrote, self-financed and produced the pilot before selling it to Netflix, which is producing the full series later this year and releasing it in 2025. Rami Hachach directed the pilot.
Netflix ordered the series based on a pilot that Segura produced himself. Segura also wrote the pilot, which was directed by Rami Hachach.

Exclusive: Comedian Tom Segura has identified the most promising vehicle yet to showcase his acting chops, as Deadline understands that he’s in talks for multiple roles in Dirty Rotten Bastard, a show biz-centric indie from Ed Helms & Mike Falbo’s Pacific Electric Picture Company.
Helmed by Ryan McNeely and Josh Martin, aka The Director Brothers, the film tells the insane true story of an aspiring filmmaker who is kidnapped by deranged lounge singer Tony Clifton. Initially drawn to document Clifton’s world, he is thrust into a chaotic journey of sex, celebrity, and comedy, blurring the lines between observer and participant, and testing his sanity.

Comedians and podcasters Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura are jumping into the spirits game with a new vodka brand.
The duo, who co-host the hit comedy podcast 2 Bears, 1 Cave, have partnered with venture studio Drip Mfg to launch their own vodka brand, Por Osos. While the pair are known for their jokes, they’re taking this new venture quite seriously.
“We were very much fingers in the pie on every aspect,” Kreischer tells The Hollywood Reporter. “From the bottle cap, down to the kind of bear image. I mean, we really, really had our fingers in this.”
The pair note that they had been approached many times before to create something in the liquor space. They waffled between a few types of liquor before settling on vodka. Kreischer feels that vodka is a “natural fit,” while Segura notes that there “hasn’t been anybody disruptive in the vodka space.”

Exclusive: David Meese, a scripted TV agent at WME who represents the likes of Tom Segura, Joel Kim Booster, Deon Cole and Emily Heller, has been promoted to partner at the agency.
Meese was surprised by his 5-year old twin daughters with the news during a staff meeting.
It comes almost six years after he joined WME from APA, where he spent nearly ten years.
He told Deadline that he expects there to be a comedy “boom” in the coming years. “People are realizing comedy is evergreen and people want to laugh, especially in times of trying and I think it’s all cyclical. It’s going to be coming back and have a big boom over the next couple of years,” he said.
He predicted buyers will lean more towards comedy, which is inherently cheaper to produce than drama as they get “more bang for their buck”.

Taylor Swift is celebrating her newfound status as Spotify’s Global Top Artist with a surprise of her own: The massively popular singer-songwriter has just officially released the previously hard-to-find fan favorite song “You’re Losing Me.”
The song, now widely available on streaming services, is the latest of Swift’s “from the vault” releases – tracks that didn’t make her official studio albums. “You’re Losing Me,” which Swift co-wrote with producer Jack Antonoff, was initially released last May only on the “Late Night Edition” CD of Swift’s 2022 album Midnights and in a digital version exclusively at her web store.
This morning, Swift posted on X/Twitter, “Um ok this is unreal?? I just wanted to say to anyone who listened to my music this year, anywhere in the world, thank you. Getting named Spotify’s Global Top Artist in 2023 is truly the best birthday/holiday gift you could’ve given me.

According to Marlon Wayans, the number one rule in comedy is “You can’t be afraid to offend.”
Four of today’s hottest comics came together for Variety’s stand-up comedy roundtable — Marlon Wayans (“God Loves Me”), Tom Segura (“Sledgehammer”), (“Salute Me or Shoot Me”) and Matt Rife (“Natural Selection”) — to discuss the state of comedy.
In the past few years, many comedians have argued that political correctness and increased sensitivity have negatively impacted the art form. A fresh face in the scene, the 28-year-old Rife ignited backlash last week over a joke about domestic violence in his new Netflix special. In an Instagram story that followed, Rife offered a fake apology and directed anyone offended by his jokes to a website for special needs helmets. This roundtable conversation was filmed before the release of Rife’s special, but during the conversation, Rife shared with his fellow comedians that “intention matters.

An exclusive clip for crime thriller The Kill Room has arrived, reuniting Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman on the cast list for the first time in two decades.
In The Kill Room clip, Uma Thurman’s art dealer Patrice approaches Samuel L. Jackson’s Gordon in a bakery seeking a piece of art she can sell. Gordon is a bit cagey and the two go back and forth on “financial legitimacy”, which seems like an awfully tame term for what they’re about to engage in. This is set up earlier in the movie, when we see Gordon pitching Patrice to sell a piece of art, knowing she has a financial problem that she needs help with. What does Gordon get in return? A cut…and certainly a little something else.

When Mark Hamill set off to start filming "The Machine," he announced it in a video on Twitter, in which he claimed that he "might already regret this." Well, the movie arrived in 2023, and unfortunately, the box office and critical response pretty much proved Hamill right to be hesitant, even if he was only joking.
"The Machine" made a global total of $10.6 million on a budget of $20 million. Even worse were the reviews, with Rotten Tomatoes summarizing the film as "a sloppily lifeless movie," and "broken beyond repair." Poor old "Big fat Bert," as his "2 Bears 1 Cave" co-host Tom Segura lovingly calls him. He's just trying to spread some joy.
Rolling Stone referred to Kreischer as the "top partyer at the Number One Party School in the country" in their 1997 profile, and you might be surprised to hear that he originally had his life adapted to the big...

“I can’t believe what my life is,” says Tom Segura.
Segura has good reason to be proud. The 44-year-old comic has grinded away for decades to become one of the most successful (and prolific) comedians around. After a 21-month run that saw him perform for more than 700,000 fans, the promise of Tom Segura’s “I’m Coming Everywhere” world tour has finally been fulfilled.
If you’re wondering if this long haul was a test of endurance for the globally popular stand-up comic, who has been working the circuit for nearly 20 years, the answer is an unqualified yes. “I mean, I’ve said it, but…I signed up for too much, so it felt really good to get to the end,” Segura says with a laugh. “I very vividly remember the last few shows counting down and being like, ‘I can’t believe this is finally coming to an end.’ But, you know, it’s 21 months and like 303 shows. It was just outrageous.”

Do not adjust your phone screen. You are not experiencing deja vu. Netflix’s list of new releases for July 2023 does indeed look quite a bit like last month’s.
That’s because the biggest new arrival this month is the conclusion of The Witcher season 3 on July 27. It seems like only 29 days ago that The Witcher season 3 premiered. And that’s because it was! Now Henry Cavill’s arc as Geralt of Rivia is set to officially end with this batch of three episodes. Get ready for the Liam Hemsworth era, Witcher fans. Other Netflix Original series of note in July 2023 are The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 on July 6, Sonic Prime season 2 on July 13 and the animated comedy Captain Fall on July 28.
Meanwhile it’s a big month for Netflix’s original movies department. Adam Devine-starring comedy The Out-Laws premieres on July 7. That will be followed by Bird Box...

In May 2021, after 19 years in Los Angeles, comedians and married couple Tom Segura and Christina Pazsitzky (aka Christina P), moved to Austin with their two young sons. Segura says he felt like L.A., in mid-pandemic, was falling apart. “I was like, ‘This city is turning into a shit show!'” he tells Variety.
About one month after they moved, Pazsitzky suffered an injurious fall in their new home. And, as you might expect, Segura ended up turning the (non-life-threatening) accident into a bit, which is featured in “Tom Segura: Sledgehammer,” his upcoming stand-up special premiering July 4 globally on Netflix.
In “Sledgehammer,” Segura recounts his uneasy 911 call that night requesting help. “I realized that, while what I’m about to say it true, it sounds… suspicious! But I gotta say it. So I’m like, ‘My wife fell down the stairs.'” Pazsitzky, who had misjudged a step when she...

Some time ago, comedian Tom Segura teased on his Ymh Studios podcasts that he’d decided to self-finance and shoot a mystery video project, with further details to be disclosed at a later date. And at long last, they’re beginning to emerge, as Segura has disclosed to Deadline his sale to a streaming service of a pilot in which he’ll star.
“We…produced a pilot that we sold to one of the streamers…We financed it, we produced it, wrote it,” Segura shared during a Zoom call late last week. “This was a hundred percent like the podcast way of thinking, which was like, ‘Just make the thing.’ So we just made it, spent a fortune doing it, but I think for the right reasons. And I think they’ll probably make an announcement about it soon, maybe when the strike resolves. But we’re very excited about it,...

Welcome to Sales to Astonish, a new column in association with comics retailer The Unreality Store, in which Matthew De Monti brings us news on comic sales and the general moves in the comic market over the past month or so!
One of the valuable lessons I have learned in three years of comic retailing is that you can’t just sell titles that you like. The joy of the medium for the last couple of decades has been the variety of titles available and keeping a wide range of genres on offer has always been important. However, even if I only sold superhero comics I couldn’t possibly read, like and sell every one. The case in point here is titles which I never read such as Superman, Ultimate Spider-man and What If always sell when I have them in stock and the first launch or May saw all...

WME has hired Carly Frankel as an agent in the digital department and Samantha Korn as an agent in the talent department focused on comedy, Variety has learned exclusively.
Frankel will focus on the agency’s podcasting business, including the comedy, personal development, and narrative nonfiction verticals. Prior to joining WME, she was senior development executive at Wondery, having originally joined the company in 2019. In that role, she worked across creative and business development to identify original podcast concepts and to bring them to production.
She was previously at Wondery where she most recently served as a senior development executive, working across creative and business development to both identify hit original podcast concepts and bring them to production. Following Wondery’s acquisition by Amazon Music in 2021, Frankel was instrumental in designing the company’s consolidated greenlight and deal protocols for original programming. She is based in WME’S Beverly Hills office.

The cast of "Saturday Night Live" might be full of comedians with an improv background, but if there's one thing showrunner Lorne Michaels doesn't like it's... well, improv. If you've ever been lucky enough to visit studio 8H and see how things work behind-the-scenes, it's not all joking around. In fact, it's quite intense, with the production crew racing around on-stage between sketches to prep the next setup. All of which is overseen by Michaels who has been running the show since 1975 (except for a brief hiatus in the early '80s).
And over his time shepherding NBC's legendary sketch show, Michaels has learned that any attempt to go off-script could throw his finely tuned machine into chaos. In fact, if a performer dares to indulge their improv sensibilities, it could well spell the end of their "SNL" career, such as when Damon Wayans decided to play a straight-man...

Regé-Jean Page shot into stardom with his role as the Duke of Hastings on Netflix’s Bridgerton. Since his exit, he has dodged rumors of his return and quickly made a name for himself in Hollywood.
Page is now trying to bring his success to the big screen. He’s slated to star in the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons movie and is repeatedly mentioned when discussing who will become the next James Bond.
Page takes his fame in stride and recently revealed he isn’t phased by whether or not he’s a so-called “movie star.”

Samuel L. Jackson has a different measure for determining what makes a movie star than his frequent collaborator Quentin Tarantino.
The actor and producer, who is currently starring on Broadway in The Piano Lesson, appeared with the play’s director and his wife Latanya Jackson on The View Tuesday to promote the historic August Wilson production. During their discussion, the actor was asked about Tarantino’s recent statements on the 2 Bears 1 Cave podcast, in which he argued, as others have, that the MCU doesn’t make movie stars.
“Part of the Marvel-ization of Hollywood is you have all these actors who have become famous playing these characters,” he said. “But they’re not movie stars. Right? Captain America is the star. Thor is the star. I’m not the first person to say that. I think that’s been said a zillion times,...

Samuel L Jackson has challenged his longtime collaborator Quentin Tarantino’s recent critique of Marvel actors and the “Marvel-isation of Hollywood”.
Last week (22 November), the esteemed director made headlines for his assessment of the Marvel Universe and the actors who inhabit those roles, saying they’re “not movie stars”.
Appearing on Tuesday’s (29 November) episode of The View, Jackson – who has starred in several Tarantino films, including Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight – used the late Chadwick Boseman as an example to refute the filmmaker’s claims.
“Chadwick Boseman is Black Panther. You can’t refute that, and he’s a movie star,” said the 73-year-old actor, who has also appeared as superhero Nick Fury in several MCU films.
“It takes an actor to be those particular characters, and the sign of movie stardom has always been, what, asses in seats? What are we talking about?” Jackson added.

The director has joined Coppola and Scorsese in bashing superhero films. But even Marvel lovers might be missing the point he was making
Is Quentin Tarantino just the latest in a long line of auteur film-makers to get roundly pummelled by Twitter for daring to question the enduring hegemony of superhero movies at the global box office? That’s the story you might think you’re reading judging from various reports this week, including this piece in the Hollywood Reporter.
“I don’t love them,” Tarantino told Tom Segura’s 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast when asked about superhero movies. “No, I don’t. I don’t hate them. But I don’t love them. I mean, look, I used to collect Marvel comics like crazy when I was a kid. There’s an aspect that if these movies were coming out when I was in my 20s, I would totally be...

Say “Marvel” again, we dare you!
Quentin Tarantino has become the latest prestige filmmaker to give a modest critique of superhero movies, only to find his comments getting Hulk smashed on Twitter.
In an interview with Tom Segura for his podcast, 2 Bears 1 Cave, Tarantino was asked about the what-should-be-entirely-safe topic of Marvel movies.
“I don’t love them,” Tarantino said. “No, I don’t. I don’t hate them. But I don’t love them. I mean, look, I used to collect Marvel comics like crazy when I was a kid. There’s an aspect that if these movies were coming out when I was in my twenties, I would totally be fucking happy and totally love them. [But] they wouldn’t be the only movies being made, they would be those movies amongst other movies. I’m almost 60 so I’m not quite as excited about them.

Quentin Tarantino has said he isn’t impressed with the “Marvel-isation of Hollywood”.
While promoting his new book, Cinema Speculation, the 56-year-old filmmaker appeared on Tom Segura’s podcast where he criticised the Marvel Universe and said there are no “real movie stars” anymore.
“Part of the Marvel-ization of Hollywood is… you have all these actors who have become famous playing these characters,” he said. “But they’re not movie stars. Right?
“Captain America is the star. Or Thor is the star. I mean, I’m not the first person to say that.
“I think that’s been said a zillion times, you know, but it’s like, you know, it’s these franchise characters that become a star.”
During an appearance on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace this week, Tarantino also sent a message to the critics of his work.
