A coming-of-age dramedy, “Gangnam Project” has sold to powerful public broadcasters – just the kind of established clients the market is looking for these days – in France, the Nordics and Australia.
France Televisions, one of Europe’s biggest TV networks, has bought for France, Yle for Finland and ABC for Australia.
Sales have been closed since the show’s recent launch on CBC Gem in Canada and Cbbc and BBC iPlayer in the U.K.
Created by broadcast network exec turned producer Sarah Haasz (“Step By Step Let’s Dance”), “Gangnam Project” has also closed the Baltics, being picked up by their TV3 Group.

The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is replacing its East of the West sidebar, established in the 1990s and converted to a competition section in 2005, with the new Proxima Competition, dedicated to showcasing works from upcoming filmmakers and challenging new works from established auteurs. The aim of the new section is to “celebrate, together with the Crystal Globe Competition contemporary cinema with a slate of forward thinking and notable discoveries,” according to organizers.
“Proxima is replacing the popular East of the West competition which was established in the 1990s with the aim to aid filmmakers from the former Eastern Bloc to emerge out of the region’s politically indoctrinated isolation, an isolation that existed on both institutional and psychological levels,” Kviff artistic director Karel Och explained.
“Now that the festival is confident that the mission has been accomplished, it is crucial to consider and contextualize the region from a global perspective.

Cottonwood Media, Federation Kids & Family’s production arm behind hit children’s programs such as “The Ollie and Moon Show,” has joined forces with seasoned Canadian creative producer Sarah Haasz.
Haasz will oversee Cottonwood’s growing North American slate of live-action series and animation, while giving Cottonwood a first refusal on her own TV creations.
“We have known and enjoyed working with Sarah as a broadcaster for over a decade. She has brilliant creative instincts, very much in line with our goal as a company: to produce unique, high end live-action and animation content,” said Cottonwood’s David Michel, Zoé Carrera and Cécile Lauritano in a statement.
“David’s history of creating premium content for pre-school and family audiences will enable me to pursue unique, high quality co-productions to add to Cottonwood’s already robust development slate,” Haasz said.
Haasz’s experience in kids’ media spans both the broadcast and production sides of the industry.
