Project development initiative has opened up to projects from the wider Southeast Asian region.
Full Circle Lab, a project development programme backed by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (Fdcp), has announced the 20 projects selected for this year’s edition, which will take place online September 15-29.
The initiative, which is co-headed by Matthieu Darras and Izabela Igel, will be preceded by the Film Industry Conference (September 11-15), which will also be held online and open to a larger audience. Full Circle Lab was initially scheduled to take place in Manila in April, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 coronavirus.

There are projects that beyond their flaws you’ve got to praise for brazenness, the amount of love put into their creation. There’s this air of faith, of passion, that permeates all aspects, smoothening out whatever rough patches the material may have. Ang Larawan is this sort of project. Ang Larawan, right off the bat, is notable for the sheer amount of talent behind it. A screen adaptation of National Artist Rolando Tinio’s play — in itself also an adaptation of the work of another National Artist, Nick Joaquin’s A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino — the film boasts direction from Broadway production designer-turned-director Loy Arcenas, an ensemble of celebrated actors and actresses from both stage and screen, and music from the Philippines’ foremost maestro...

From the award-winning director, Loy Arcenas, comes the beautiful elegy of a movie, "Ang Larawan." The star-studded cast is headed by Joanna Ampil (Candida) and Rachel Alejandro (Paula). Here's my movie review of "Ang Larawan" as seen on The Filipino Channel's Balitang America:
Here's the film's official synopsis:
This story set before World War II in Intramuros tells of the plight of sisters Candida and Paula Marasigan, daughters of high-profile painter Don Lorenzo Marasigan.
Since Don Lorenzo has not produced a single painting for a long time, the family is in financial trouble. The unmarried sisters have had to rely on their seemingly more successful brother Manolo and sister Pepang. Their siblings urge Candida and Paula to sell the house.

Like Loy Arcenas, Maribel Legarda has several years' worth of theater experience to guide her first foray into filmmaking. Unlike Arcenas, whose first film is from an original screenplay by Rody Vera, Legarda chose to adapt for the screen an award-winning stageplay by Allan Lopez. Interestingly, Nino, Arcenas' first film embraces theatricality, limiting most of its moments within the striking dialogues spewed by the characters with such exaggerated extravagance. Legarda's Melodrama Negra, on the other hand, abandons theatricality in favor of gloss, spectacle and other cinematic excesses. Remnants of the material and Legarda's stage roots linger, creating an uneasy mix of both theatrical and cinematic excesses. Melodrama Negra opens with three wandering ghosts (Gee Canlas, Gerald Napoles and Bong Cabrera), wondering what they need...

The first day of the International Film Festival of India, Goa had a dull start but went on to become a colorful and glamorous event as the day progressed. The Maquinez palace along the Mandovi River in Panaji which is the main venue of the festival was lit up beautifully in the evening when the crowds thronged the place in large numbers to see films. The main attraction of the day happened to be Werner Herzog’s 3D documentary Cave of Forgotten Dreams which opened to a packed house at Kala Academy.
Herzog captures on film the Chauvet Cave in southern France which houses the world’s oldest cave paintings. The 32,000 year old caves which are of immense scientific and archaeological interest pose challenges to Herzog’s team—they are allowed to shoot for a limited number of hours a day and have to walk on a narrow walkway laid out in the cave.

Now in its second year, the Busan West Asian Film Festival is a showcase of past and present Asian films as well as a study of the art with question and answer sessions from those in the industry.
The event marks the second venture between Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts and (Busan International Film Festival) Biff to introduce the culture, look and feel of Asia’s largest film festival to an American audience and celebrate the vibrant and emerging Korean and Pan-Asian cinema. In 2009 the two parties united for the inaugural “Pusan West.”
At this year’s Festival we were treated to a absolutely fantastic event.
To get things started celebrated writer / director Bong Joon-ho (Mother, Memories of Murder), who also was presented with the Busan West Icon Award ,
