A Promise (Une Promesse), the new film by French director and scriptwriter Patrice Leconte, has been added to the Out of Competition section of the Venice Film Festival (Aug 28 - Sep 7), where it will receive its world premiere.
Based on a novel by Stefan Zweig, the film takes place in Germany, in the wake of the First World War, and hinges on a woman who falls in love with the young assistant to her husband, a rich and powerful industrialist. It stars Rebecca Hall, Alan Rickman and Richard Madden.

Who knew a vampire, Elena’s birth mom Isobel, went to my Toronto high school and that she’d majorly catch catch the eye of Canadian late night talk show host George Stroumboulopoulos?!
I’m sure the principal and teachers at Jarvis Collegiate Institute, a downtown Toronto public school, would have flipped if they knew they were harboring a future vampire. Mia Kirshner and I made our connection discovery sitting side by side getting out hair touch ups before we both presented Genie Awards on Canadian national TV on Mar. 10 in Ottawa, Ontario.
Kirshner, 36, who starred in The L Word as well as Vampire Diaries, looked phenomenal in a long black Pamella Roland gown with incredible nude-floral strappy Giuseppe Giannotti heels.
