A few weeks before this year’s Golden Globes, Kristen Wiig went over to Will Ferrell’s house in L.A. to brainstorm how they might co-present an acting prize at the show, which was reinventing itself as new and improved after a series of scandals. The event was among the first major Hollywood gatherings since the actors strike ended in November, with a guest list of stars hoping to fit six months of thwarted awards campaigning into one night, and Wiig and Ferrell were expected to lighten the mood. “We wrote stuff out, and then we would be like, ‘Wait, how does this end? Is this funny?’ ” Wiig says. “And then I was like, ‘I have this song on my phone that really makes me laugh. Can I just play it for you?’ ”

Chicago – The 2017 Tribeca Film Festival was not all about film. Besides showcasing Immersive and Virtual Reality programming, this edition of the festival opened up submissions from independent television pilot creators for the first time. One of the four finalists that were accepted to the “Tribeca: TV” portion of the festival was “Lost & Found,” created and directed by Haroula Rose, who is from the nearby Chicago suburb of Lincolnwood, Ill.
“Lost & Found” follows a group of friends as they try to navigate the absurdity of modern-day Los Angeles, which is anchored by a ceremony where a couple gets “unwed” after their divorce, and the complications that evolve from that ritual. The show is witty and in-depth, with a large ensemble cast that delivers both hilarity and emotion. “Lost & Found” features Melonie Diaz, Terence Nance, Will Janowitz, Jennifer Lafleur, Abby Wathen, Avi Rothman, Peter Thomson, Nick Thurston and Laura Lee Bostacos.

Recently, protestors dressed in the handmaids’ red robes and white bonnets made an appearance in the Texas Senate gallery as its members were passing abortion legislation.

Indie film and video site iKlipz quietly went under this summer, though one of its original web series commissions has managed to find some daylight on Funny or Die this week. The company folded while the show was in production on future episodes, so as of now Seth & Avi Show is just three episodes. The bro-comedy is created by writing duo Seth Menachem and Avi Rothman, with each episode the pair playing themselves "Avi is continuously pulling his best friend Seth into sticky situations," said Menachem when describing the setup. Incidentally, the series itself is a little preview of the pair's in development series Partners which they recently sold to Starz. Rothman is a familiar face around here as the star of Atom.com's underrated gem Modern Day Jesus, which popped out last winter. Word is that they are pitching that series to Comedy Central for a possible half-hour TV pickup.
