As Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements ramp up the output from their Tomorrow Studios shingle, they’ve identified the first project they plan to bring out via their new deal with Julia Garner.
Garner and her producing partner Rowan Riley, via their company Alma Margo, sealed a first-look deal with Tomorrow earlier this year. Their first series will be a drama about an international jewel heist titled “Balabusta.”
“She’s very engaged and involved in every step of the way,” Adelstein said of Garner. “That’s probably one of the best deals we’ve ever made. We’re really happy to be in business with her.”
Garner, of course, is on a roll, having scored Emmy nominations this week in both lead actress in a limited series (for “Inventing Anna”) and supporting actress in a drama (for “Ozark”). Garner already has two Emmys, having won for “Ozark” in 2019 and 2020 in the supporting drama actress field.

Exclusive: HBO Max has ordered a second season of adult animated series Ten Year Old Tom, from Steve Dildarian, animation veteran Nick Weidenfeld and Tomorrow Studios. The renewal is being announced today at Rooster Teeth’s Rtx festival in Austin.
Created, produced, directed and written by The Life and Times of Tim‘s Dildarian, Ten Year Old Tom follows the misadventures of an average kid as he contends with questionable guidance from the well-meaning grownups around him. Being a kid is hard enough for Tom, but when bad influences seem to lurk around every corner – from litigious parents and drug-dealing bus drivers to school administrators who want to sleep with his mom – it’s downright impossible. While the adults in Tom’s life certainly mean well, they just can’t manage to lead by example.

The TV academy has honored voice-only performances since 1992, when six cast members from “The Simpsons” collectively became the first actors to receive Emmys for such work. The Best Voice-Over Performance category became an official non-juried one in 2009 and was then split into two categories in 2014: Best Character Voice-Over and Best Narrator. Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) made history as the former category’s first champion, having been nominated once before for the same series.
The 2022 Best Character Voice-Over ballot list below consists of a whopping 222 performances. Seeking a third consecutive victory is Maya Rudolph, who plays Connie the Hormone Monstress on “Big Mouth.” Also in the mix are former winners Shearer, Hank Azaria (“The Simpsons”), Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”), and Seth MacFarlane (“Family Guy”).

With the majority of big global TV distributors opting out of a physical presence at Mipcom, the flashy stands have been replaced by snazzy digital platforms showcasing content rolling out starting this fall.
Among them are a series of virtual festivals by Banijay, which acquired Endemol Shine in summer 2020 and boasts a catalog of more than 88,000 hours of programming. Rather than join Mipcom organizer Reed Midem’s virtual Mipcom Online Plus event, the mega-indie is going its own way, as are so many other distributors.
The latest of its planned digital forays is a non-English language scripted festival designed to showcase the group’s eclectic mix of European dramas. These include six-part French show “Germinal,” a modern adaptation of Émile Zola’s classic 1985 coal-mining strike saga; Swedish boarding-school drama “A Class Apart”; and Italian coming-of-age series “My Ballerina,” a co-production with Italy’s Mediaset.

Weidenfeld, who was most recently president of programming for Viceland, will produce primetime adult TV animation for broadcasters and streaming platforms.
It is the latest string to Tomorrow Studios’ bow, the company makes Snowpiercer for TNT and Rose Byrne’s Physical for Apple and is working on two live-action remakes of anime projects for Netflix – One Piece and Cowboy Bebop.

HBO Max has ordered a new adult animated series titled “10-Year-Old-Tom.”
The series hails from writer and executive producer Steve Dildarian, with Nick Weidenfeld also attached as an executive producer.
“Not only is Steve insanely funny, he is one of the rare talents that can write, draw and do voices. He’s the triple threat that is the foundation of all great animated shows,” said Weidenfeld
In the series, Tom grapples with being corrupted by the grownups around him each day just by leaving his house. Bad influences seem to lurk around every corner — litigious parents, drug dealing bus drivers, and band teachers who want to sleep with his mom. If he sets up a lemonade stand, he gets sued for gross negligence. If he plays baseball, he is encouraged to “dabble with roids.” And if he visits the school nurse, he is introduced to the world of insurance fraud.

HBO Max has greenlit 10-Year-Old-Tom, an adult animated series from The Life and Times of Tim creator Steve Dildarian, animation veteran Nick Weidenfeld and Snowpiercer producer Tomorrow Studios.
The series follows Tom, who grapples with being corrupted by the grownups around him each day just by leaving his house. He must deal with bad influences including litigious parents, drug dealing bus drivers and band teachers who want to sleep with his mom. If he sets up a lemonade stand, he gets sued for gross negligence. If he plays baseball, he is encouraged to dabble with steroids. And if he visits the school nurse, he is introduced to the world of insurance fraud. The grownups in Tom’s life all mean well, but somehow just can’t manage to lead by example.
Dildarian will write and exec produce, with Weidenfeld, who has worked on series including The Boondocks and Rick & Morty exec producing.

The Fox comedy “Dan the Weatherman” is recasting two key roles, Variety has learned.
JoAnna Garcia Swisher is joining the project as Deborah, taking over the role played in the original pilot by Ashley Williams. Jack Stanton will play Dan Jr., the role originally played by Dashiell McGaha-Schletter. The pair will join the rest of the cast to re-shoot scenes from the pilot this summer, with the single-cam series still in contention for a midseason pickup at the broadcaster.
Williams most recently appeared as Ariel in ABC’s “Once Upon a Time,” in addition to starring in fellow ABC series “Kevin Probably Saves the World.” Her other TV credits include roles in “Reba,” “The Astronaut Wives Club,” “Gossip Girl,” and “Animal Practice.
For Stanton, joining “Dan the Weatherman” keeps him in the Fox family. He previously starred as Ben in the Fox comedy series “The Mick,” which was recently canceled after two seasons.

JoAnna Garcia Swisher has been tapped as the new female lead, replacing Ashley Williams, who was in the pilot. Additionally, child actor Jack Stanton has been cast as Dan’s (Lennon) son in another recasting.
Both Swisher and Stanton just became available after their series, ABC’s Kevin (Probably) Saves the World and Fox’s The Mick, respectively, were cancelled last month.
As we previously reported, Fox brass liked Lennon in Dan the Weatherman but had issues with other aspects of the pilot, which did not make the cut to series was left alive for possible retooling/recasting/reshooting and midseason consideration. The pilot will now reshoot several scenes in the summer.

Streaming overlords sign Channing Tatum to teach us something.
Ever since animation has been targeted at children, adults have thought it would be really cool if it was aimed at them instead. Once regulated to a late-night programming block of the Cartoon Network and a sub-genre of pornography, adult animated series are everywhere and chock full of the kinds of celebrities who were once called upon only to phone in performances on things like Shark Tale every so often. Adam Reed’s Archer has become a sweet moneymaker on FX and Raphael Bob-Waksberg Bojack Horseman has done massive inroads to make Netflix seem hip and with it. Which is probably why Netflix, per Deadline, has just signed on the voice of Channing Tatum to star in an animated movie penned by Dave Callaham, proud writer of “Untitled Zombieland Sequel,” which has yet to hit theaters. Are these new pilots from Amazon trash? Of course they are! Here’s a guide.Just Robb Stark over here, wearin’ shades in outer space
Crowds may not be able to fund things, but they can give opinions. Or, at the very least, that’s been the idea behind Amazon’s occasional Pilot Season, generating enthusiasm for their programming by giving ordinary folk like yourself the opportunity to watch pilots and say, gee, this blows and vote them a big n’ meaningful thumbs down. Last year, they took everything, so it might just be a load of promotional nonsense. But it might not.
So, what’s hip in this line of potential programing? Once canceled TV-hands like Steve Dildarian and Amy Sherman-Palladino return with their latest attempts to enthuse audience with binge-worthy hours of spectacle and movie men like James Ponsoldt and Kevin Macdonald try to get into this golden age of TV they’ve been hearing...

It’s almost hard to believe it’s been five years since The Life and Times of Tim aired on HBO. I remember when the show was canceled and people online were clamoring to try and raise money to get it back. At that time crowdfunding wasn’t nearly as popular as it is now. But my theory is that if Rufio can get his own short movie, then why can’t Steve Dildarian get Life and Times of Tim back on the air? Amazon released five new pilots on Friday, and it’s up to viewers to determine which ones get picked up. “The Legend of Master Legend,” “Budding Prospects,” “The New V.I.P.’s,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Oasis” make up the 2017 Amazon pilot season. As it does every year, the New York Television Festival (Nytvf) used the last week in October to hand out awards and development deals to independent web series creators. This year’s biggest hits included Steve Dildarian’s The Worst Husband, which won the Nytvf Critics Award as well as one of two “Best of the Fest” prizes, as well as Streamy Award winner Brooklyn Sound, which earned one of the ten development deals handed out at the festival.
The Worst Husband was one of the most high-profile projects in the Nytvf field; previously, Dildarian served as the creator of the HBO cult hit The Life and Times of Tim. His latest show topped all challengers in the Nytvf’s Independent Pilot Competition. Medium Well, a comedy about an aspiring chef, earned the other Best of the Fest award by being selected as the festival’s best script.

Imagine if in Everybody Loves Raymond that Ray was just a little bit more spineless and slightly less intelligent, and then place him in an environment where everyone around him is much more inclined to take advantage of his seeming inability to stop a bad situation from getting ten times worse. That’s HBO’s fantastically written but crudely drawn series The Life & Times of Tim. Voiced by Steve Dildarian, Tim represents a side of us we’ve all unwittingly given in to at one point or another in our own lives, at that times when we know we should have objected to a situation we knew was becoming increasingly unfavorable to ourselves, but in an effort to be a charitable or easy going individual we let it happen. In a way, the series becomes almost therapeutic as it lets us get those moments out of our system via a proxy,...

Exclusive: Steve Dildarian, creator/executive producer of The Life & Times Of Tim, has sold a new comedy project to Fox, where HBO’s cult animated comedy originated as a pilot presentation almost five years ago. Dildarian’s new comedy for Fox, The Commuters, is live-action and produced by 20th Century Fox TV and Shawn Levy and Marty Adelstein’s studio-based 21 Laps/Adelstein Prods. The Commuters, which has received a script order, is a single-camera office comedy about a diverse group of co-workers who are bonded by their daily drive from New Jersey to New York. Dildarian is writing and will executive produce with Adelstein, Levy and Becky Clements. Coincidentally, Clements’ husband, Werner Entertainment’s Mike Clements, developed and executive produced The Life & Times Of Tim with Dildarian. The Life & Times Of Tim, on which Dildarian also voiced the title character, ended its three-year run on HBO this year. Dildarian started off in advertising,...
