Margaret Storm Jameson(1891-1986)
- Writer
British novelist Margret Storm Jameson was born in 1897 in Whitby, Yorkshire. She came from a family of shipbuilders. She went to college at Leeds University, where she won a research scholarship to University College in London, She went to work in the publishing industry, first as a copywriter, then as a dramatic critic and editor of a weekly magazine. Three of her novels--"The Lovely Ship", "The Voyage Home" and "A Richer Dust"--are actually a trilogy about the history of a shipbuilding family, no doubt based on her own. She was a firebrand progressive, and received acclaim for her novel "In the Second Year", about a fascist takeover of Great Britain, which has been compared to Sinclair Lewis' "It Can't Happen Here".
