French-based sales agency Lightdox has acquired the international rights to feature documentary “The Mechanics of Things” by Italian director Alessandra Celesia, ahead of its international premiere Saturday at the Torino Film Festival. The film had its world premiere at Les Etats généraux du Film Documentaire in Lussas this August. The exclusive trailer is shown below.
The film’s starting point is a terrible accident: Tito, a stray cat adopted by Celesia, falls from the eighth floor, and is paralyzed. The filmmaker herself is struggling with invisible scars. Together, they embark on a journey to China, searching for regeneration, both mental and physical.
After her cat was paralyzed, Celesia set out to find a way to heal him. Meeting a French association of paralyzed people working on spinal cord regeneration, she embarked on a journey to China for a clinical trial. The scientific discovery and medical trial patented by the association...

Seven years ago, Kani Lapuerta began working on his first feature-length documentary “Ninxs.” About Karla, a 14-year-old trans girl who lives in Mexico living in a binary society, the project garnered the IDFA Forum Award for Best Pitch at the 35th edition of the Amsterdam-based documentary festival on Nov. 15.
Produced by Mexico’s La Sandía Digital Producción Audiovisual and Germany’s Jyoti Film and Dirk Manthey Film, “Ninxs,” which is the gender-inclusive and non-binary version of the word niños (children), is in the early editing stages.
Lapuerta said that he set out to make the docu to show audiences that there is more to trans people than being trans.
“This is a coming-of-age film that is dealing with many topics like memory, friendship and love,” Lapuerta says. “For me, the important thing is that the audience can identify themselves with Karla through these topics and not because she’s trans or she’s not trans.

Barcelona — Paris-based Cat & Docs has taken all international rights to Bettina Perut and Iván Osnovikoff’s “Los Reyes,” a documentary feature which screens in competition at the 31st International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (Idfa).
The feature is produced by Chile’s foremost young documentary director Maite Alberdi in association with Perut and Osnovikoff’s own company, founded in 2003. It is co-produced by Hamburg-based Dirk Manthey Film.
“Los Reyes” follows two stray dogs, Chola and Fútbol, and they wander around the oldest skatepark (Los Reyes) in the Chilean capital of Santiago. From the canine point of view –a peculiar, sometimes humorous counterpoint– the audience is offered, in the background, in voiceover, a vivid portrait of this singular microcosmos featuring hurtling skateboards and boisterous teenagers.
“‘Los Reyes’ is a radical and beautiful cinematic portrait of a location and a society told with wit and talent. We are very excited to launch...
