George W. Bush is the latest president to get the PBS documentary treatment. Former Bush administration officials Ari Fleischer and Andrew Card joined filmmakers Barak Goodman and Jamila Ephron for a panel at the Television Critics Association 2002 Winter Press Tour to discuss the latter duo’s upcoming two-part “W,” which will premiere sometime in the spring.
The first part of the documentary will focus on Bush’s unconventional road to the presidency — Bush is one of five individuals who became president despite losing the popular vote — while the second part will center on the president’s handling of the September 11 terrorist attacks, Hurricane Katrina, the Iraq War, and the 2008 financial crisis. The documentary features interviews with a variety of Bush administration officials, historians, and journalists.

Washington -- Even in retirement, Barney Frank promises to antagonize the right wing.
The 72-year-old Massachusetts representative ends a storied congressional career in less than three weeks. In a tenure that spanned more than three decades, Frank has helped lead the civil rights debate as one of the first openly gay elected officials, crafted a financial reform bill designed to prevent another global crisis and become a liberal hero for his willingness to clash with conservative critics.
His days on C-span may be almost over. And he has already moved out of his Capitol Hill office and Washington apartment. But this man will not go away quietly.
Frank has retained Hollywood super-agent Ari Emanuel to ensure he is a paid fixture on cable television, the lecture circuit, in bookstores – and maybe the occasional sitcom or Broadway show. He has already sent his agent two book proposals, one offering a recipe...

Tonight's Republican debate brought out many of the nuances between candidates, from social issues to national security. But one thing it did not do was highlight any opinions in the Democratic Party. What's more, Democrats will not stage a debate for the 2012 elections, given they have an incumbent in office. CNN political commentator Andy Card thinks this is "sad," and seemed to have a hard time understanding why Democrats won't be debating until 2016.

For liberals, it's the Supreme Court: Yes, Mondale-Dukakis-Gore-Kerry is bland and dissatisfying, but think of the court! For conservatives, it's the people in the world who want to do America harm, and the longtime Republican conviction, going back at least to the early 1950s "Who Lost China?" debate, that those feeble Democrats won't keep America safe.
